How can Brooks be rated at £50m in the absence of an offer? I rate my car at £100,000. I’ve had no such offers but it remains rated at that level.

At no time did I want Reed to fail. I simply realised early doors that to which Bladey Boybanders closed their eyes. He wasn’t good enough for us. People then started wishing on as many lucky stars that they could possibly wish upon, that he could be good enough one day. They pretended he was better than he was. They added a large percentage to his actual ability, simply because he was local.

I can’t emphasise enough. We’re a professional football club, not the X-factor.

There are many other methods of proof. The charge may well have been withdrawn because the alleged victim was reluctant. The accused may have accepted a caution.

Whilst a conviction would be conclusive proof, it is not a sine qua non.

I answered your post because it’s a forum and that’s how it works. I repeat, I did not make the claim. TC is my all-time favourite Blade, why would I want to raise such matters? It was raised so I offered a view.

Rumours of a divided fanbase were grossly exaggerated by the hand wringers on here. The vast majority of people couldn't care less about any off the field activities. Football has never been a place for puitanism; that's the preserve of the the Church and the gossip columns.There seems to be a growing constituency that think footballers should set the moral standards for an individual club, and by extension the whole of society. I agree he's a role model, but only for what he does on the pitch. I'd question whether he "remains a bit of a twat". Maybe he just made a few mistakes when he was a young man? I've never met the fella, so couldn't possibly comment.

I’m not defending what he did but I can see how things might develop. He made a massive mistake but has paid the penalty for his crime and seems to have sorted himself out with respect to attitude and willingness to get the best out of his talent.

Probably to differing degrees, who hasn’t done something or said something that they regret when they’ve had too much beer.

There is a tariff to every crime and every profession or job has a way in which it reacts and responds to crime. In my profession it would be the end of my career. Football gives players a second chance after the penalty has been paid.

All I know is that we have another centre forward who can score goals and use his physical presence to make life tough for opposition defenders. You can be sure that the managers of our future opponents can’t just have a defensive plan A when we play them and for this you should be pleased we have Madine.
