Probably mentioned within other threads but he warrants his own - he was outstanding last night, back to when he had his purple patch last year. And good to see a defender scoring with his head too.

I was somewhat surprised to see Cranie start in front of him, but Cranie was excellent so lovely to have options. I suppose Stears is Egan's backup.

Think he's been very very unlucky to make so few appearances this season.

There was a thread dedicated to Stearmans great performance last night called “Thanks Stears”.

Agree, he deserves special praise.
Bet he can’t believe it, hardly played all season
Gets a surprise subs appearance and ends up scoring the winner at the Kop End, it’s like a dream.

It was noticeable that Henderson improved after he came on particularly following that mix up in the first few minutes when communication was none existent. . Stearman was talking to him constantly. When Henderson spilled the save in the 2nd half and then reacted very quickly to push the ball away, Stearman was the first one to him congratulating him. (Didn't see where Stevens was at the time but probably for some on here running the other direction).

Stearman deftly manoeuvred himself between Stevens and Henderson after the spillage to ensure the resultant finger-pointing from Stevens wasn’t in direct eyeline of Henderson.

That attitude is spot on fella:

A regular starter last term, the former Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-half has spent most of the campaign on the bench but said: "You saw the frustration come out when I scored. It's been a tough season for myself personally but I've get my head down and supported the lads.

"That's what you've got to do, it's not about 11 players, and I've got to be ready when called upon."

"I know my role in the team, I've tried to support the other lads in my position, and I'll always do that," Stearman added. "Hopefully, be it in the team or off the bench, I'll always do my bit to try and help us get across the line. That's my focus, the group."

The more players we have like that the better.

He really attacked the ball to score, the last time a saw a bloke move with such purpose was when my mates dad went for him after he broke their glass door trying to get in when pissed.

He certainly did. He wanted it far, far more than the defender marking him. Post-match cries from Pulis for a foul were pathetic.

If Keef is to be believed, Stearman only drinks tonic water!

Solid again tonight, nothing fancy but does the simple things a centre half should do well. Head it, clear it, tackle it.

Praying Egan is fit for next week but would have no worries if stearman has to start.
