No not a weather warning even though we may have snow. My lad has just informed me that Sheffield Hallam University are having another open day tomorrow and Sunday with hundreds of students expected plus parents. The city centre and Ecclesall road could be busy as they will be extra coaches taking them around to see Uni sites around the city. Lets hope it isn't gridlocked like earlier this season, might be an idea to set off a little earlier than usual.

Thanks for the heads up

You’d think someone, somewhere might put their heads together for these things and, you know, PLAN AHEAD. The club, the police and the Uni’s for example. Why not have them on weekends when we’re either away, or playing on Friday/Monday night? Or international weekends? Until we play Brentford on the 9th of March, we’ll have had just 3 Saturday home games this year- surely they could have picked one of the other 6 available?

The university will plan these weekends far in advance of the fixture calendar being released, let alone once sky have got their hands on it. Really in this instance it should be for SUFC to make alternative arrangements.

Absolutely. Not saying everybody else should just make way for the football because its us and we must come first. But theres got to be better ways than what happens every year? Its bad for everyone; if the aim of this open day is to attract potential students and their families, gridlocking them in and out of the city along with angry, road raged football fans and locals trying to get on with their lives isnt much of an attraction. Surely its in the interests of police/emergency services as well? You’d like to think by getting reps from all affected parties (Blades/Uni’s/Police/Council) in a room for a meeting might at least help the situation.

Well I knew nothing about any open day until my lad told me he had to work the weekend, the Uni don't really make these things public knowledge so I'm not sure how SUFC could be expected to know about it. Hopefully it will not be as bad as the start of term gridlock.

Always good to know especially when my train option isn’t an option at the moment

Oh and guess what the next book a course open day coincides with our game v Rotherham on the 9th of March.

Might still be a bit mad, but shouldn't be anywhere near as chaotic as Freshers I'd have thought. There are several open days every year, and of course, many people don't bother going to them (local, already decided what uni they're going to, etc).

Simple solution...someone sneak out tonight and point all the signs to a big pile of rust in south barnsley...hence roads will clear in city centerand the indiana jones archelogical student types will be claiming they have found a long lost ancient civilisation and imediately claim it as a world heritage site....simples.......:tumbleweed:

Uni's Spring teaching semester begins on Monday as well so if you're travelling across town there might be more traffic than usual for that.

A city the size of Sheffield should be able to handle two events on the same day.

I remember September 24th 2017 the fallout from the fact we were about to inflict a Bouncing Day Massacre on the same day as a 10k run. Crazy.

Bloody students bringing their money to the city and keeping pockets of its economy going. Wankers
I don’t think people dispute that it’s just that no one seems to be able to plan these things so as not to inconvenience people and that of course includes the students and their families as much as us

I’d say it’s more to do with the city council and traffic planning than anyone else. It needs to happen though so maybe someone with some gumption needs to take control of it.

It should be for South Yorkshire's finest to do their jobs ……. what they are paid very well to do …… and keep the traffic moving.

Regrettably …… they couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery ….

Not the Club's problem at all ….

Agree totally but then you have the imbeciles who have worked in the planning departments of the council for years to come up with the worst road system in Europe unless you're on a bike or a bus. It's stunning how the whole road system is designed to force traffic away from most streets and onto the inner ring road, only to then cause pinch points such as around the university with the tram and 4 pelican crossings in the space of 250 yards. Hence the city can't handle basic rush hour traffic let alone an event bringing in extra traffic.

It’s the same in every city. I’ve come to the conclusion that there’s just too many cars. What amazes me, and I don’t know if Sheffield does it, but some are increasing the density of the city centres, building bigger offices etc so that even more people have to travel in to work. It makes no sense whatsoever when the centre can’t cope already.

I work in Leeds and it seems to be in an almost constant state of gridlock at peak times. There’s no tram system there and never having worked in Sheffield am not qualified to comment on whether that helps or not

Errr no. Some of us have to travel that way. Just put cancelled on the signs please

A footbridge across the road at the University pinchpoint which had access halfway to the supertram stop would enable the traffic control crossings to be done away with; as long as wheelchair access could be incorporated.

Every needs to leave ten minutes before the final whistle tomorrow, rather than the usual five, in order to beat the traffic out of the city centre.

I've decided to beat the traffic twice by staying in my seat until Boro.

I hope they let me take my sleeping bag and crate of baked beans in with me.
