Well, just a note to say that a lot of the old "World of Sport" wrestlers could actually wrestle, it was a pre-requisite for getting into the industry back then. They had to learn the amateur/olympic style (free style), and then learn the "showmanship" style. The American style is very different, it's all acrobatic stuff which has no relationship to Wrestling (it should not really even be called that).
The majority of real wrestlers were from the north of England, with the most famous gym being in Wigan, the men there learned a brutal submission style called "Catch-as-catch-can", and that formed the basis of modern MMA submissions (along with the original, combat form of Judo, rebranded as "Brazillian Ju-Jitsu").
When I switched from stand up fighting (Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing) to MMA (many years ago now), a lot of the submission moves I learned were from the old English style.
Anyway, this has nothing to do with Billy and his sock, sorry lads.
