I’ve been to a few derbies
In the return game v us after Boxing Day ,
For older readers , when the kop was split , with the white fences and moat , ( and I’ve said this before ) , they where on the kop closest too south stand end , protected by the fence to the right and the moat in front of them with coppers stopping us getting into em from below , and a lot of police stopping anybody trying to get into them from around the back , after the game it was carnage all the way down to cherry street with running battles all over
We showed them up when Sir Bobby put them to the sword , as we where all over there death trap ground .
Been to last two home derbies and the only time I’ve seen em is in the ground , didn’t see any in town before or after games , that’s a lie , saw 5 on Moor after last home game , must have been after they’d been down London road again

Feb 2006, me n 4 mates sat in with the piggy bastards and cheered both Tongues lovely free kick and Akinbiyi's stunning volley that gave us the double over the dirty fuckers!!
Got home with a black eye n fat lip, and it was worth every punch I recieved!
Never forget that, the best day I've ever had at the sty!

Read PT about the last BL Derby game. It seemed like 1 in 3 were in the home ends. Personally, I never saw one.

No , me neither sat in south stand , mind you they had bugger all to shout about !
What I want to know is how did they get the points

Can't remember the year but it was deep winter, I think we must have been old div 3 and should have been playing Rotherham, but it was called off, Newcastle were playing at S6 and we (around 40 blades) were in pond street, scarfs hats etc when a black n white tide rolled in from midland station, we all ended up in the penny black and queens head, long story short 40 blades and about 200 geordies, without tickets for the away end headed up to Hillsboro, blades all buying tickets for the Kop, into the Kop, middle of their holy land, re decked in red and white and black n white, bit of grumbling from all around but we sang each other's songs thru the game, awesome day out bonus I think toon won too.

We had several hundred in their North Stand for this game - all massed at the part of the stand nearest the away end. Their fans did nothing about it. Most away fans I have ever seen in a home stand for a derby.

Thats the game Sean Thornton i was on about earlier in the thread. The police just stood down the 1st aisle as make shift segregation. Remember pre match the "we are blades" chant go ikng up in the North Stand

Seen our kop threatened three times. Against Leeds, Newcastle and would you believe it Leicester! I and others actually got shifted against Leeds to JSS so the coppers could get in to "restore order". Every Derby I attended on the Kop had a bit of "drama" when a daft Pig decided to give it large, but there was never any mass movement from them unlike the big clubs.

I think if there is such a thing as pay back in these circumstances we more than paid Leicester back when we took their entire stadium over in 1990

When we were all on the pitch in front of the Directors box waiting for Basset and the players, quite a few Leicester fans same back in the stadium hooting up. They beat a quick retreat when hundreds started going towards them in fancy dress, away shirts and one bloke with a crutch.

Have a look at this. I was at this game, dont ask why. I recall (and you can clearly see from this footage) Man U fans at BOTH ENDS celebrating their goals. Man U fans took over the Wendy kop end and moved the pigs aside.

3000 of them on the Shoreham? Sheer delusion. The only time I've seen anybody 'take' our kop was v. Man. Utd around 1972. We'd blagged tickets from Macro who sponsored the match so were in the John Street box. Around an hour till KO, we decided to go up and see how the crowd was building up. The kop was absolutley rammed - with Man. U. fans. I wondered about my dad who always stood in the same spot - near the back of the kop, towards the cricket pitch side.

Back then, he used to wear a collar and tie for matches - quite common then. When he got home - about two hours later than normal - his collar was up in the air and his tie was pulled to one side. I asked him 'You never stood in that lot, did you?' He said 'I bloody did. I always stand there!'

I went to that match. Walked on the kop late as they chanted ‘United’ I chanted Sheffield in reply and got kicked from top to bottom and escaped across the bottom!

I have scapped for the cause on a few occasions, in the 60's, 70's 80's Wednesday were never close to taking our kop, no where near, we on theother hand were always on there kop and giving it, I ain't being biased but we were always on top as fans even if we weren't as a team, we have never ,ever been chased off there kop, they have, on more than one occasion been chased off ours, in my experience.

Police were nowhere.....could have been extremely nasty....until I decided that I had to stop this lad being killed....because he was still being kicked.
I'm only 5'2..... I think the shock of this little female shouting for them to stop shocked them and thank God they did stop.
It was chaos tho on there....not something I would want to go through again.....oh but then......but that's another story and another match.....

That Newcastle game stands out for me as there was trouble well after the game ended and all the way from the ground to the city centre. Some of their fans were ripping garden walls down to get bricks to lob indiscriminately. I’d got my young nephew with me that day for one of his first games and I had to put my coat over his head to protect him.

Grew up in hills borough and saw a hell of a lot of bother in the 70s in the park and on penistone road, they had some lads and you can’t take it away from them, but the Newcastle one does stick, the bricks being thrown and the running battles before and after were bad, mum kept me in the house to keep me safe but I managed to get out the house an hour after and the park was dotted with wendies battered up on the floor, an older lad I knew well called Phil was up against the railings near the pond he’d had the shit knocked out of him and throwing up.. his then bird crying her eyes out thinking he was a gonner.. he was a tough lad, just pissed and been feightin..

Onto the blades, been on their end a few times with no bother for many different games, also on their north stand with at least another ten blades we just gathered together as we made it public when we walked in, we showed off all game and other than me getting thrown out the last ten minutes, they did fuck all.. silly fuckers had open the gates so I walked straight back in to cheers from the lads who couldnt believe it, gave it a minute and said to gateman, hows owls goin on, get yersen in lad...

It’s a game of numbers if you have enough and enough game lads they’ll not bother you. Sadly as I’ll always say now, this is over, ticket tracking and cctv, you can’t mess about like that anymore, Young uns take note, they’ve always plenty of space for football fans in the nick..

I (vaguely) remember a home match v. Man. City in the 70s. There were loads of City fans on the Shoreham and bedlam ensued. Younger fans were moved towards the front and City fans started throwing bottles aimed at the roof supports so that they smashed and showered people with broken glass. The night match with Hull in 1971 also saw plenty of Hull fans on our kop. But that's the way it was back then - large numbers of away fans would simply arrive early and 'populate' (not 'take') a home teams' kop.

As usual, the pigs have highly selective memories. I often stood with away fans at Hillsborough when they played big teams just for the 'buzz'. I was on their kop for the 4-4 in 1974 v Man. U. and there wasn't a pig fan to be seen. Ditto the 1975 game v Villa who won 4-0 to clinch the Div. 2 title - that was the game where thousands of Villa fans invaded the pitch at the end and I made my way to the centre spot and pissed on it. (True).

A lot of the posts on NKT go on about lone away fans 'being punched in the face'. How very tough. I've been to The Rust Bowl when the likes of Newcastle, Liverpool and Everton (when they had a good team) have descended in huge numbers. The Wednesday fans? Nowhere to be seen.

The 3000 claim also says they were in the uncovered part of the Kop. Anyone old enough to remember will recall how small that are was compared to the rest of it.

If they're talking about the 1980 game there were 500 on the Kop. They In the League Cup game the following season there were maybe 100 200 who stood in the same spot near the South Stand but under the roof at the back. Then things changed after that in terms of ascendancy!

Bang on regarding numbers. Remember it well but I would have estimated their numbers on our kop at 300. Cordoned off by the Police for their protection, Blades couldn’t find a way through although some went down the kop and around.

Every club has a sad little cohort of late middle aged men who glorify those days. I remember it well, thick as shit, all of them, like to think they were hard but operated in a group and basically very sad individuals. They are funny to listen to though.
