Also, for any younger fans out there, don’t worry you didn’t miss much by not seeing him.

The hard thing to put in context is this is an era of football where United fans enjoyed such strikers as Laurent D'Jaffo and yet the words Ashley Ward stand out as especially poor.
Nowhere near the worst.
We've had some dross. What about Barry Hayles and Daniel Johnson. World beaters for years then naff all for us
Do you mean Tommy or was Daniel so bad I've completely forgotten him?
I think the issue with Ward wasn’t so much that he was poor. It was more about expectation.
The local Barnsley fans really rated him as a top striker, he came with a good reputation, so think we paid him big wages by our standards so we pinned our hopes on him and he was a big let down.
The likes of D’jaffo and Allison were just bit part strikers trying their best, so were more appreciated.
Think I remember Allison playing in the Liverpool league cup semi and Sammy Hyppia really struggled against him. Wayne “Lead boots” Alison was built like a fridge and impossible to knock off the ball. Think Warnock just told him to stand in the penalty spot area when we attacked and you could see Hyppia and Co panicking. He proved to be really effective to bring on as sub.
According to wicked pea dear -
Laurent D’Jaffo is now an agent & assists Sheffield United with scouting.
Perhaps that’s done on the isle of fernandos.

Don't know if this is still the case. I think he recommended Mamadou Seck.
And Didier Drogba of course .
I think he probably recommended Nade as well.
Possibly the worst "striker" ever to pull on a blades shirt utter gash.
Bloody hell. Yes I meant David. Ex-ForestOr David - that's more likely thinking about it
Wasn't there a story about a farmer shooting dead his dog? Or maybe I dreamt it, I have a habit of having bizarre dreams about long forgotten former players.
I originally registered on here in order to nominate this sack of shit as my all time least favourite blades player. Unfortunately the thread disappeared before my registration was complete. He was the only person i've seen try to win a header without seemingly being able to jump off of the floor. When you combine that with a lack of pace, a feeble goalscoring record and a level of effort that would make Kevin the teenager embarrassed he has no competition in my eyes as the worst player i've had the misfortune to watch in thirty odd years of watching the blades. The only plus point in his time here was that he was frequently injured so Andy Gray got to play a lot - and at least he managed to raise a sweat and score the occasional goal here and there
Connor Sammon modelled himself on our Ashley then ?He used to shrink about 4 inches when going up for a header, he rounded his shoulders and his neck went into his body like a tortoise before he jumped. That's not the only aspect of his play that I'd liken to a tortoise either.
ATTN Grecian2000 - this ones for you mate
Just came across this article on him

Was a bit too young to remember much of him but I'm told he was brilliant with his feet and terrible in the air.
Did Warnock charge all the lads a tenner? On the way to an away match, Warnock made the coach driver take a detour to Ward's house and Ward was forced to give the entire squad a guided tour.
