Billy Johnson got unnecessarily abusive about something I wrote in a thread about seats in the Bramall Lane stand .... completely unprovoked.

Here he goes again, he's not the alter ego of someone who has been banned is he and still thinks he's got an axe to grind? Pompeii springs to mind, but I don't know if he still exists here with this persona ... Greggie Halford may be?

No. I'm having a dig at the arrogance and statement that I didn't get what was happening.
He made out it was soooooo obvious all the time.
No one can predict where a keeper is going to launch it until it leaves his boot.
Plenty on here get my point.

except it wasn't a major feature of their tactics - the goal kicks to the by-lines was a consequence of the original tactics of playing short out from goal kicks being stopped by our front three splitting their defenders. We stopped them playing the game how they wanted and they didn't have a workable plan B.

The goal keeper was left with nothing else to do except kick it. After a couple of decent kicks we sussed that too and put a stop to it and his kicks became useless.

Our coaching staff out coached Mclaren virtually the whole game.

Just for your self-awareness, if you are pointlessly narking Blades on this forum, do you think you may not understand how to control your behaviour at football grounds whereas some of us can & do without narking opposition fans?

It's not really "leaving the field of play", is it? That would surely be going down the tunnel or into the crowd or something?

If that specific tactic counts as "leaving the field", then what about when a winger pushes it down the line and runs the wrong side of the line to beat a defender, with the ball still in play?

I accept the wording could be better, but this specific ploy seems to be stretching it a bit - seems to me that the rule is about stopping people going into the crowd or off for a piss without the ref's permission.

If his starting position is off the pitch from a set piece then he shouldn't be allowed back on until the ref calls him on. If it's because of momentum from actual gameplay, it's fine.

I think you've taken Ranmoor's original comment the wrong way but for what it's worth I also thought it was very obvious.

Your post is correct. Thanks. It totally agrees with my op.
The lack of a target man on their part until late in the second half meaning the keeper had to seek alternative out balls is by the by.
It was their go to tactic and therefore a major feature in just the same way rolling the ball to a defender every time would have been.
Kinda odd that an op meant as an observation found interesting attracts negs.
But then nowt surpris3s me on here.

I remember we used to employ a similar tactic when Clough or Adkins was in charge and Brayford used to take up a position at the half way line on the wing. He didn't stand off the pitch waiting for it though.

Thought their keeper's kicking was excellent and they could all play at the back.
Can see why they've picked up in results but their problem was running into blind alleys in the final third and carrying little threat after the pretty stuff at the back.

It's very rare that any team doesn't have - at least - a ten minute 'spell' in a game. QPR didn't but a lot of that was down to United. Towards the end when they could be expected to 'go for it' our defence slammed the door firmly. In their face. Apart from a 'bobbler' in the first half, I don't think Henderson had a serious shot to save all match. (I still shat it when Freeman's shot went narrowly past Deano's right post at the end, but that's always a danger with a 1-goal lead).
