When you pick a reserve team you deserve all you get.

Humiliating? Not really.

But it wasn't the reserve team today Swiss, it was put out as the first team representing the club and it's supporters in what is supposedly English footballs premier competition.

English footballs premier what? I guess after winning the league, finishing second, Champions League places, Europa Cup places and play offs you might be right. Proper tallest dwarf is the FA Cup.

Oh and not getting relegated. I forgot that one.

While it's a disappointing result and a naff performance, it doesnt come close to the lows of the play off defeats, the relegations, losing out on the L1 top two to the pigs etc.

Personally having been to the game I don't feel as disappointed as I did after the recent Leeds, WBA, and Ipswich games.

That doesn't take away that it's our worst defeat in my lifetime in terms of how far below us the opposition are, and how they justifiably won the game.

Liked seeing Wilder waiting to shake all their players hands, and many in the South Stand acknowledging the Barnet players. Also genuinely pleased for their proper fans other than the ginger bearded gobshite on Bramall Lane.

TBH I'm more disappointed in the pathetic response from a few of our fans.

Laughing at those In Wilder We Trust types who have criticised fans being disappointed about Madine, who today have effectively disagreed with our gaffer with their comments.

Football is emotive and it evokes different opinions even in those at the coal face.

Wilder has handled today's debacle well imho but also shown that some of our fans who like to think they're on the higher ground actually aren't.

Well played Barnet. Deserved win.

Good reaction Chris.

Bring on QPR.

Back in 1981 I witnessed the Blades get soundly beaten by non-league Altrincham. certainly thought that was the most humiliating defeat I'd ever witness.

Well today Barnet proved me wrong

NB Altrincham were the top non-league side then

I feel that the Altrincham defeat was worse. The cup was taken a lot more seriously in the early rounds then than it is now. Around 12,500 turned out to watch the home match at a time when football attendances were generally much lower than they are now. We fielded a full strength side in both matches. Edwards and Hatton had been ripping defences apart for the previous two months, but even with both of them in the side we still couldn't win.

Also that season Altrincham were only mid table, not top of their league.

Well that may have ended a couple of careers at Bramall Lane. Out second team should be hammering a non league side and it sounds like they could have beaten us by more!
I went today and Freeman diverted the ball that was heading towards there player totally unmarked and prevented a certain goal. We where totally useless with the ball and without it.

The same people who aren’t bothered about the FA Cup will be the same people moaning at where the game has gone wrong, not realising that the FA Cup is what football is all about, giving the people what really matter in football the chance to pit themselves against better players, trying to cause an upset. I loved watching the Newport vs Leicester game earlier and I support none of them.

Some people are only wanting to see the rigours of the league where there’s more cheats than a bunch of bigamists. What’s happened to the proper football supporter these days? Why take a competition like the FA cup with such contempt? Why can’t we go to win both competitions?

Ooh go on, explain your cryptic insult.

Not an insult at all! I was highlighting the point that you value League over Cup. That is fair enough, it's a difference of opinion.

QPR will be at a huge disadvantage having put their strongest team out to beat Leeds today. The poor dears only have six days to recover.

Over a season it makes a difference. Players play with a higher intensity and clearly get fatigued whether we like it or not. Not playing our first eleven has given our first team an opportunity to refresh and more importantly no one broke a leg so no one will be missing.

I’m not happy at today’s result and there is no doubt a lot of questions should be asked, but if we win next weekend it all gets forgotten in the grand scheme.

You're last point, especially, is spot on. As fans, we forget the last game and move on to the next. I can only look forward to the League challenge now.

But next year? I'm tempted to say I will join the thousands of others and not bother with the FA Cup, but doubtless I will be there.

No Wiz, the FA Cup is not our priority this season. Should we have won today? Yes. Is it poor? Yes. Was Wilder fucking furious? Yes. Did he care? Yes. Have several players just ended their careers with us? Probably.

I’ll take you back to 03 with Warnock. 2 cup semi finals, a team that were pulling up trees all over. But, come that final in Cardiff we were found wanting. We were utterly shot and beaten convincingly on the day. We played over 60 games that season. Now at the end of that season what did we all reflect on? The failure of our team to get promoted when it should have pissed all over Wolves.

If it mattered to people why can we not pull crowds any longer? I am not saying it is right because I wish I held the FA Cup up as something we could shoot for. In the modern day I am afraid we don’t have resources to push on 2 fronts. Today proved that convincingly. I want it to be different but the reality is that most people don’t care about it.

Let's remember Barnet were until 2 years ago a league club and Luton were a conference club for 6 years . It's not like either are dyed in the wool non league outfits

Watched channel 4 news tonight
Leicester was a big shock but other teams through were just listed as qpr millwall doncstr and barnet . So its hardly noticed

Leicester have taken the hit off us in that regard.

But Barnet ARE a non league club, doubtless for a good reason.

Having said that, I wish them every success (except in future games against us).

What a lot of people seem to be forgetting is our record after a break, like an international break, we’ve lost 2 and drawn 1 and looked relatively poor for our standards in the games immediately after them poor results. The losses were Bristol City and Derby, the draw was against Rotherham.

This might mean nothing in the grand scheme of things but I personally don’t think these are a coincidence.

Another test for our lads next week, let’s see if they can pass another one.

Those cup games under clough condemned us to another year in league one I've hated the cups ever since so the best result we could have hoped for was to lose
Our squad is performing at optimum.and can't cope with extra games

Didn't want us to draw and dreaded us winning and having to play another game
So you actually want United to lose, and you have the cheek to come on this forum criticising other posters WOW just WOW

And we were a Fourth Division side then.

This is our most humiliating defeat ever no question.
I witnessed the defeat to non-league Port Vale in 1911 and that was pretty bad. But today’s result is worse than that. I have been trying, since about 4pm today, to tear up my season ticket but the bloody thing won’t rip! I did manage though to rip out the mantelpiece and threw the carriage clock, through the window. The bloody thing is in the garden now and it’s still belting out it’s Westminster chimes every quarter of an hour!

I’ve locked the wife in the tall boy to stop her trying to console me and I’ve stoned the grandkids. None of this has helped one bit. I want Wilder out because I want to blame him, but I want him in because I think he’s the best manager we’ve had since John Nicholson.

That’s it. That’s me done! I’ve been supporting them since 1889 and have amassed 4 trillion loyalty points but if they think they can treat my support with such contempt they’ve got another think coming!

Should be a cracking game v QPR next week though eh?

Can’t wait for that one!

But I tell you... just one more time like today and that’s me finished!
