Instinctively I’m with HillmortonBlade on this, but, yeah, the “second string” XIs suggested in this thread look plenty good enough to survive in the Champ in their own right—another pleasing indicator of the progress we’ve made in the last couple of years, and certainly not the same as a “bollocks the cup kids XI”.

My main concern about resting the regular starters is how shite they’ve recently been after international breaks ...

Moore

Freeman
Cranie
Stearman
Bryan (or Wright if Bryan not fit)
Johnson

Coutts
Lundstram
Dowell

Clarke
Washington

To be honest, for a fringe team it’s entirely feasible for Freeman, Coutts and Clarke to reestablish themselves in the first XI in the 2nd half of the season, even without injuries or suspensions. Add the fact that Dowell will feature regularly if all goes to plan and it’s not a weak team at all.

I don’t think he’ll change as many as some would want, perhaps 4 or 5 of our team from the Blackburn game will play and the rest will be our squad players. A few of the squad players have been carrying niggles so I don’t think he’ll risk them.

The 4 or 5 from the Blackburn game being Basham, JOC, Baldock, Fleck and possibly one other. Moore, Stearman, Johnson, Coutts, Dowell, Clarke and possibly Washington all to come in. It’s all guesswork but I thought I’d chuck it out there anyway. :)

There are certain players Wilder will feel obliged to play. Typically the experienced types who have only been squad players, like Moore, Cranie, Stearman, Coutts and Clarke. You could even say the same about the likes of Johnson, Lundstram and Washington. All seasoned, first team squad players, and it would seem wrong not to give them a game here.

I predict something like this:

Moore
Cranie Stearman O'Connell (Wright if fit)
Baldock Coutts Lundstram Johnson
Dowell
Washington Clarke

Just to put this out there, I think we’ll have one or two fringe players who are on their way out on loan and will perhaps not be able to play in our cup match as part of the deal?

Full normal 11 changed, no risks.

Same as above, Jake Wright if Bryan isn't fit or needed in midfield.
Hopefully a couple of spots on the bench for a couple of youngsters like Doherty and Mallon. I assume a young striker too.

Is everyone forgetting how shit we've been this season after each two week break? Play the first 11!

Busy Christmas period over, 5 days before Barnet chance for players to get rested before the next league game in around 12 days..

The team I'd play;

Moore

Freeman
Stearman
O'Connell (can't bring myself to end that consecutive run of games)
Cranie
Lafferty

Lundstram
Coutts
Dowell

Clarke
Washington

Moore
Cranie Stearman Lafferty
Freeman Coutts Lundstram Johnson
Dowell
Washington Clarke

Moore
Cranie (if fit) Stearman Bryan (if real)
Freeman Coutts Lundstram Johnson
Dowell
Clarke Washington

A very strong Championship level team there, without risking the main 11. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the recent starters just because we've got 6 days until the next game after this.

Second 11
Moore
Cranie
Stearman
Bryan
Freeman
Coutts
Lundstram
Dowell
Johnson
Clarke
Washington

Not too shabby, and nowhere approaching a crap cup team.

Got to be 10 changes from last game with just Cranie keeping his spot if he’s recovered from injury. The league is the most important and our first team need a rest after a tough Christmas period.

We all called for it. So now we can't complain.

I want to see the fringe players get a run out, they'll need to be "at it" though - Give Barnet a sniff of glory and as always with matches like this it can become a potential banana skin. Looking at their recent form they aren't playing badly.
You called this one correct!
