Crap Ref

I realised we had a poor ref today when he took ages to get the game started in the first half. I don't know what he was messing about at.
I'm guessing he was waiting for the clock to tick over to 3:00 (It was bang on 3:00 when the game started).

Completely agree that he was absolutely fucking useless for the rest of the afternoon though.

Incompetent stupid, moron, idiot, arrogant, biased self absorbed, fuckwit are just some of the adjectives to desecribe the ref

what about the totally legitimate challenge from Basham right in front of me in the family stand which resulted in the referee booking the player..........meanwhile the assistant with much the same view as me DOES or CONTRIBUTES.... NOTHING!!!!!
Not even a foul, DEFINITELY NOT A CARD

From my view on the Kop it looked a free kick, I thought their man got to the ball first and then played it on to Bash. I didn’t think it was a booking as he got some of the ball in the end.

I’d need to see it again to be honest because it’s difficult to be 100% sure with only one look at it.

Why so angry? We won 3-0!

You could see Stevens lean into him, players have been going down easy all of his career, you would think Stevens would learn not to give away cheap free kicks.

I’m fine with accepting mistakes, that’s why I’m not bitching and moaning about the performance. Like I say, don’t help them with VAR and you’ll get mistakes.
We’ll agree to disagree on the Stevens incident. I’m the same age as Wilder and might be classed as old school but I don’t see how leaning (if indeed he was) makes a player loose his footing and throw himself to the floor. It’s blatant cheating in my book and it wasn’t the first or last time in the game. Its a contact sport and I agree it’s difficult for refs which is why we have to stamp out this kind of “foul” but would VAR be used in this instance? Yes we won but on another day decisions like those made today prove costly

Not to bang on too much, but if Smallwood didn’t have a brainfart we’d probably have lost by a couple of goals, largely down to refereeing ineptitude. If the ref had been crap but hadn’t really impacted the flow of the game then fair enough but we were very close to dropping points in a winnable game today. And I’d be livid.

I’m delighted we won of course but don’t necessarily think we should gloss over something just because it all worked out in the end.

But to spin it another way, if we’d played better and not given the ball away regularly up to Bash being sent off, we wouldn’t have been giving away free kicks. You don’t give away fouls or get booked when you have the ball.

I prefer to look at what we can control rather than moan about refs. The best teams don’t need to worry about the ref because they dominate teams. It’s generally the shit teams/managers that moan about refs and we’re better than that.

No such offence in the football rule book as "blatant" hand ball or even "deliberate" hand ball. Hand ball is hand ball mate. It was hand ball. That decision was correct. What wasn't correct was the previous yellow for tackling an opponent fairly with intent to win the ball.
you will find for a hand ball to be given it has to be perceived deliberate 'directive'

He is a Champions League and FIFA referee, and the linesman on the South Stand side also wore a FIFA badge. The game was all about him and his badge. Look at me he seemed to keep saying. Similar things have been said when he was is refereeing Premier League games. Very poor. I hope both clubs give him a poor rating.

Useless. I wish we had him every week, however, spurred us on!

This ref was horrendous. Did wilder run over Anthony Taylor dog. because he seemingly had a grudge against us for some reason, i said in 1st half, its been 24mins I was still waiting for him to recognise theres 2 teams in this match. Instead of a Blackburn free for all. then hetook an hour to wise up to Blackburn's diving. gave a yellow for what was a brilliant tackle where he got the ball. as the reaction to the tackle proven. then when you think the guy couldn't get much worse. he proves his incompetence when he shows he doesnt knows basics, like what is accidental handball & what is deliberate. how on earth when your 10 yards away from a free kick fired at you at 70mph. anything can be deliberate when he had 1/3 of second to react its ridiculous.

How that man has refereed high profile games in England & abroad is beyond me Worst ive seen since Darren Deadman. somehow this guy has refereed Manchester & Merseyside derby, Liverpool man utd + the other high profile top 6 PL games. FA cup final, League Cup final. last seasons championship play off final. Borussia Dortmund v Atletico Madrid in champions league & Holland v France in nations league in October & November

there is "deliberate" handball because otherwise football would go pretty crap, as to get a penalty just have to aim a player hand

Na
I can only think of one bad challenge in the game and that was their red. I'll wait till I've seen it again but I wasn't convinced it was that bad. Fortunately for us the ref had received two shiny new cards for Christmas and today was his chance to play with them.
Nailed it !

I'm rarely sure about many things but I was sat in front of that on John Street and it was a good, clean, strong, safe tackle. Never a foul let alone a booking.

How long is Bash out for? 2 yellows is a 1 match ban isn't it? Or has he passed the cumulative threshold?

Absolutely ridiculous second yellow for "handball", as clear a case of ball to hand as you'll ever see and was in no way intentional. Arm never moved from his side. Shouldn't even have been a free kick, but to give a second yellow as well for that was just taking the piss. I wonder if he'd have had the bollocks to give it had Basham been standing in the penalty area.

One of the worst refereeing displays I have seen in a long time. I'm not sure Bash even made contact with their player for the 1st yellow card, looked a good fair but hard tackle from my seat. How anyone can be penalised in a wall when a free kick is blasted at them I will never know it isn't like Bash raised his arm above his head or anything. I really thought those two decisions were going to cost us today. OK the ref was not helped by the Blackburn tactics of diving and feigning injury at every opportunity but fuck me he was poor. At one stage it seemed every challenge resulted in a United player giving a foul away or worse getting booked.
The lino on the south stand side was as bad too, the ball goes out for a Blades throw and he waves the flag for a Blackburn throw then changes his mind and changes the flag to the other hand = Blades throw. The only thing the ref got right today was the Blackburn sending off, that was a horror tackle the other Blackburn player was already hacking at Billy, Smallwood took them both out. Lucky at least one of them didn't have his legs broke a shocking and totally unnecessary tackle.
I would be appealing both Basham's yellow cards but doubt there will be much point or time for that matter before the Wigan game.

I used to think the same. Until I ended up with two sons who are both qualified referees and were able to enlighten me further...

The rules as to what constitutes a "deliberate handball" are not clear. It is left to referee's to determine what constitutes "deliberate". And this is why it remains controversial as to a) whether it is "deliberate" and b) what punishment to issue if so

Nice little article here about the very same thing.

Must say I agree with every point. Just seen those Bash bookings. Unbelievable Jeff.
Blackburn disappointed with all that diving/cheating

That ref v Blackburn was appalling, after that shocker with Basham early on he left himself with absolutely no where to go, every decent challenge after was fair game for a free kick and a yellow. Basham's second was a joke, when two minutes later he pulled a Blackburn player for handball but didn't book him.

He was a joke.
Bash won the ball and should never have been a yellow card and the 2nd yellow was ridiculous also their straight red was a bit harsh but he was looking to even it up,terrible ref.

In addition to the dive before our goal and Palmer throwing himself down all the time, there was yet another pathetic dive in the box just after Mulgrew hit the post. Quite comical on the highlights.

Yes, that was their 27, it was absolutely pathetic and clear as day on the highlights. Linesman had a clear and unobstructed view. There was another one in our box, immediately before our second goal.

When you consider that the whole 90 minutes were condensed into just five minutes of highlights, yet included two blatant dives, it is testimony to a deliberate game plan.

In 2027 The FA introduced ‘The Deception Panel’, to review incidents where penalties were awarded or players sent off as the result of a dive. Just a token gesture, in my opinion, they must convene about once every two years?

Would it be so difficult to review every match and impose six week bans on offenders, until it is driven from the game?

Whats more, the useless egotistical twat is reffing Manchester City v Liverpool next week

I'll make a prediction, 2 penalties, a goalkeeper sent off, Guardiola sent to stands, Mane off, 6 yellow cards, and a goal from a free kick or throw in that was awarded the wrong way.

He should come with a warning.

I have a sneaking suspicion the bald headed twat was really Connor Sammon come back for revenge for the abuse he took from us Unitedites. That's about the only theory I can come up with for him being so useless.
