BLUT

Looked pretty full yesterday. Let's not get carried away though, it was Boxing Day. BLUT will back to a morgue on Saturday

Nah, there'll still be an army of free ticket attendees if it's anything like that fucking Bolton game last season....

Took my missus’ nephews on the BLUT when we played chesterfield in the last game of the promotion season.

Brilliant view and you get to appreciate how loud 3 sides of the ground are.

But it was a bit dull compared to the Kop. I’d rather be amongst the atmosphere than being a spectator of it. I’m not talking about just singing, I’m talking proper atmosphere, the buzz of a big game is almost tangible on the kop.

I’d prefer to be domiciled (!) on the Kop, but the seating makes it a bad fit...

I was on the BLUT last season for the Fulham game. We lost. I'm never going on there again

What did you tell him? He was more like Frank Carson?!!

I think Frank Carson as he is now would have got down quicker to Billy's header

I was on the BLUT yesterday. The two ladies sat in front of me had clearly been on the Prosecco (or similar alcohol based beverage) all morning. When McGoldrick scored, the one on the left stood up, turned around, grabbed me by the lapels & kept shouting YES, before attempting to plant a kiss on my forhead. The one on the right pissed her jeans. No atmosphere you're saying.......

That's a bit shit, I've heard you get a hand shandy at Hillsborough...………...

But it’s a double bagger hand shandy over there. She (he?) wears a bag over her head and you wear one over yours as well in case hers come off......

.........and that in a nutshell is WHY the kop should be replaced (yes, I know it will cost) with a completely new stand.

I guess you are 6 foot or above?

the space in front of seats is abysmal, the rake is pathetic and facilities are just none existent.

To build just a bit on the back is just stupid. McCabe???? it's stupid, as was to build offices in the corner and the planned bit to put offices between the kop and SS !!!!

There's plenty of space elsewhere within the BDTBL footprint for offices.

Agree with the sentiment but I’ve attended management meetings.
In a financial environment idealism never comes into it. All suggestions must have a business case with “return on investment” figures.

I’m in agreement with your wishes but Imagine your suggestion in a business meeting

FB: It’d about time we rebuild the whole Kop, knock it down and start again.
McC: How much will it cost?
FB: I estimate 50 million.
McC: But what about losses during the building work.
FB: It will take 2 years to build, so capacity will reduce to 20,000 for 2 years.
McC: We already have 19,000 season ticket holders and we legally have to offer away fans tickets.
FB: Never thought of that, We could have 19K season ticket holders and ask for permission to restrict away fans to 1000 tickets.
McC: So unless you currently have a season ticket you’re suggesting no Blade can attend a match for 2 years?
FB: Yes, the fan base will complain but they’ll get over it.
McC: Income would be massively reduced for 2 years with a restricted 20K capacity. Do you suggest we cut budgets or make a minimum 15 million a year loss?
McC: So let’s talk rerun in investment. What will the capacity increase be?
FB: Well actually we’re offering more space and better facilties so capacity will be exactly the same.
McC: So how do we manage to repay the 50 million loan to the bank?
FB: When we get into the PL we can massively cut the transfer and salary budget and take it from that.
McC: But won’t that mean instant relegation and what if we struggle and get relegated into league 1.
FB: We might end up being shit but at least we’ll have a stadium to be proud of.

interesting concept........

The kop is 19th century, never mind last century.

The cost should be born out of Premiership money and costed over a 20 year time span.

Done correctly the ROI can be quite quick. Liverpool's new extension, and I appreciate the loads of corporate stuff was only 3 years. The Anfield Rd extension, which has now been postponed had a ROI of 20 years due to more time due to less corporate stuff.

If our KOP was decent enough to sit in, then it wouldn't be a problem. I am 6' 2" and it is absolutely impossible for me to sit in that stand in any form of comfort.

Wednesday's kop was rebuilt in a very similar way to ours, yet its design is miles better.

If we do ours right, McCabe could have the underneath, and back of stand for offices, which again will help with ROI.

The kop has served it's purpose if we are to progress as a club - it's called progress.

If McCabe wants a proper legacy, he should rebuild the Kop. Then it can be named after him permanently.

Was in BLUT between 1970 and 1977 (usually row A seat 85). Loved it there! Best memory was watching the pitch invasion after the 3-0 promotion clinching win against Watford in May 1971.

Another memory was that I was on a high and talking loud to my dad when we were leading with a Flynn goal against L**ds in August 1971 my dad then told me to look down behind me. I turned round and saw a gloomy Gary Sprake (with his arms folded) looking up towards me! Those sitting near me had a good laugh at the miserable Sprake!

I walk past it as I go to the South and I always think that shite little carpark behind it is absolutely worthless, what they should do is build in the carpark right up to the street, make it look nice (not like a shopping centre like those old plans, red bricks, steel, glass) and have 5 stories for offices, and the top bit for the concourses. Put a cantilever roof on top over the existing Kop roof, fill it with solar panels, and get a company to pre pour the terraces and fit seats, so they go together like Lego when the time comes.

This could be done during the season, and when the season is finished rip the old Kop down from the roof down, dig that hill out, sell the seats to Brentford or summat for their new ground and get the lorries coming in with the pre made seating sections and beams.

Work bottom up so that people would have seats to use if it wasn't quite finished in time.

Get a nice illuminated Sheffield United F.C. on it to annoy the people that live across the road, switch the solar panels on. Profit.

Would be expensive but fantastic.

Yep, offices facing Shoreham Street would be good and incorporated into the back of a NEw stand.

I have thought for a while we should have a revolving sign on top of south stand.

something like this: - side to side, not the top to bottom one

Sat on the family stand today on the halfway line. The noise was split 50/50 kop/BLUT. I was personally surprised by that. Granted the numbers on the kop are larger but a lot of songs originated from the BLUT.

And I usually sit on the kop.

It must have been like a library for Sprake to hear you from that distance!

I’m 6 ft 2 and the Kop is absolutely fine. Try Gangway B mate not far off the back ;)

It's almost as if 50 on BLUT can sound as loud as 500 at the back of the Kop.

If only someone would try to get some sort of singing section going up there.

Next time your up there and we score, make sure your fly is open!

Not read all the pages on this thread. I always sit on the Kop but today, as I had family visiting, we all got tickets together on the BLUT. No doubting that the view is the best in the ground (yeah the Westfield is great too), but I just felt that I was surrounded by "occasional fans" who didn't really seem to know a lot about the squad or who was who etc.

I've nothing against this as if they all enjoy the occasion, they'll hopefully keep coming back and that's a great thing, but personally, I'm looking forward to reverting to my norm next match.
