At the risk of getting slated...... I wasn’t at the game tonight but watching on tv. Familiar pattern, absolutely battered them first half but they come out and do the same to us. We get pressed, Barry bossed McGoldrick and we just seem to run out of ideas and steam. We play some great passing football but simply don’t have the quality around the box to finish the move - or even take a shot. When we break you don’t sense any panic from their defence. We have no pace so any break inevitably results in balls coming back into midfield. This isn’t a whinge as I love what we are trying to do but Wilders strategy will come up short of promotion unless we get some pace and quality up front.

Agreed, I think what your alluding to is spending money, CW and AK have the skills but not the tools. I can accept us floating around the top 10 currently because we don't have the funds to pursue the quality to take us to the top 3/4. That's fine, we are an industrial city club with a number of close rivals which means that without a super wealthy owner, we can't compete really. It doesn't help that McCabe and The other bloke ;) can't sort their shit out and give us a fighting chance

Fine margins indeed. Another game we could have won with a bit better finishing and more luck. We were well on top for 70% of the game. I don't think WBA will have a much harder game this season, but they somehow came away with three points. Officials were crap again. Missed the elbow on Sharp, missed the push on Egan, missed the Barnes offside.

We weren't. More like 50. At best...

Absolutely agree.
Something that concerns me was Wilders statement in answer to the question about overplaying in his pre match interview. He wants us to play exactly as we do going forward and dosent see an issue with the number of passes and lack of balls in or shots.

We could always go back to the number of shots we were having under Clough or Adkins. I regularly remember seeing 3-4 shots all game, 1 on target. Nothing concerns me about Wilders statements because he works wonders with what he has. I am more concerned about the amount of wrist slitting that goes on here every time we lose a game. It used to be called form but now there has to be a reason for every defeat.

Oh dear. I bet you cheered them off the pitch after the Walsall game.

That does appear to be CW’s tactical blind spot, and one that I can’t fully understand. I’d love to see the factual/statistical basis for it. We seem to be deliberately limiting our chances of scoring and it’s beginning to seem like we’re cutting our nose off to spite our face.

If/when Wilder leaves we don’t need to fear. The board clearly need to look no further than this place for his replacement. Because according to the Billy know nowts on here we are limiting our chances of scoring. I too would love to see the stats because I am 100 percent sure you are very, very wrong.

I’m not claiming to be a know all, far from it; as a lot of my posts show. I’m querying the statistical basis for our tactics. To my untrained eyes, I would’ve thought that the chances of scoring increase with the number of crosses put into the box & shots taken from outside. CW and his staff obviously don’t and think that we are better served by a patient build up and by keeping possession. I’d would be interesting to see the stats on this.

I’m not suggesting CW is deliberately trying to stop us scoring, I’m saying our style of play & decision making in & around the box seems counterintuitive to me.

I’m also available for children’s parties and bar mitzvah’s :).

3 shots on target and I'm struggling to remember 2 of them. WBA 5 on target 49/51 possession

I remember an interview with him towards the end of the league one season and it was all about recycling the ball and working another chance with a higher % of chance.

Fine in league one and against lesser teams, but against better teams the low %chance is the best we're going to get and recycling will lead to us losing the ball rather than getting another chance.

Either way , Tufty balls seems to have evolved from last season, so hopefully our rate of progression will see us going in the right direction...

Fair do. The reason we play the way we do is because statistically we stand a better chance of scoring playing the way we do rather than humping crosses into the box. I do think on occasion we could mix it up a bit better but seeing how far we have come under Wilder I’ll go with his philosophy than anything else I have heard/seen. We are coming up against some quality teams now and I expect us to struggle, but we are well settled in the league and if there’s money allowed Wilder can take us to the next level. If we don’t get the money we won’t and he will leave.

It’s a world in which the opposition doesn’t exist. Their quality is always our failing. Their work rate is always our lack of effort. And above all, if only we had a plan B and C we’d overcome any situation.

If the company I work for didn’t have any competition we would be loaded..........
