Of course people will say it's just the board not wanting to spend money on josh king or jermain Defoe

I`ve seen him a few times. He has a bit of pace, trickery, vision, and can pick a pass. I do like what I`ve seen of him. He is a right side player, almost a winger when I have seen him. I`m sure others will come on here and enlighten us further.
 
Had a stormer last season when the U23s won at Burnley. The match report on Burnley's official site stated that they just couldn't cope with Tyler Smith.
 
Hope he takes his chance but got the feeling Wilder has only recalled him because he knows he’s got no funds for another striker in January.

I'd be happy with Delia Smith on the bench ahead of those two.

mattbianco1 LondonBlade89 EddieColquhoun Bill Johnson I have said in the past, I doubt any Academy player will ever graduate to the First Team. Not because "Wilder won't pick them", but because that is not the modern way. It is normally too much of a risk for a manager of a Championship club to pick an Academy player. Against the backcloth of the announce announce announce clamour of the obsessed with the transfer window fanbase. So I'm delighted for both Tyler & Wilder with this development.
Partly, move along, there's nothing to see here. Up top, where we're light anyway, and the older players are ever more prone to injuries, Tyler is simply the next Cab off the rank behind Sharp, Clarke, McGoldrick & Washington. My own preference would actually be Jordan Hallam. If I'm honest, I didn't particularly rate Tyler when I first saw him & as he was developing. I thought he was a little lightweight and drifted in games. He has developed a lot since then. I'm a bit sketchy on roles. He's definitely NOT a big strapping target man. Although, like many players of his age, he's become more athletic & physical over time. He always looks best to me when you hit his channel. He'll be there, good touch, he'll stay strong at pace, he's difficult to knock off the ball, and he'll be thinking just, how do I score from here. He has a bit of fox in the box about him when he's close to goal. At U23 level, you do what you do, versatile, don't become just one player. I hope he's called upon. If he is, he'll be nervous, but he'll work hard & do what he's told. He's got a future - maybe with us, maybe not. As an Academy Watcher, I'm glad it's working out this way a bit. Great that he's with the first team, even if he's not playing hope he stays with them a bit but really I'd hope he gets on and builds from there.

Would be fantastic to unearth a striker and ease the pressure on the wallet a bit.

Tyler left the club at 14 years old. Played Sunday league and was back at 15.

Runs the channels well. Quick and finishes really well.

I agree he is next in line after Sharp, McGoldrick, Leon and Washington but that’s how young players get a chance. If injuries had happened in January after we signed a new CF I think Smith would have gone on loan again.

The fact is sometimes you need a bit of luck to get your chance. That’s how it is.

He won’t let us down, and that’s for sure. Calm and very focused.

Barrow will certainly have toughened him up which will help Tyler and us.
 
To be fair to tyler when I've seen him play he's small but quick and nimble.has a eye for goal and is a decent finisher ,good feedback from barrow ,he's a blade he's a Sheffield lad I hope he's magic
 
Looking at his goals at Barrow,he looks a decent finisher,links up well and has definately got pace...it's just whether he can step up...Amongst his goals he scored a brace v Chesterfield plus an assist and has scored about 4 in the last 6 games.
I think he'll be an unused sub tbh if Leon is unfit v WBA...looks promising though GLTTL.
 
Most of the lads at Tyler’s age are from Sheffield, and blades.

Tyler, Callum Semple and Harvey Gilmour all went to Meadowhead in the same year.

You just can’t beat Sheffield United lads playing for the club they have supported all their lives.

I had the misfortune of sharing many lessons with them. Joking aside it’s great to see they’re well on their way to achieving with the club. Didn’t expect Tyler to already be making the bench in the Championship but I can imagine he’ll definitely not waste any opportunity given to him.
 
I can see Smith growing athletically in a similar way to DCL, albeit not quite as dramatically. He has more natural technical ability though.

When I've seen him I thought he looked more mature in his movements and style than the other players on the pitch.

The loan spell at Barrow should've helped him a lot. Training with our first team for the rest of the season with the occasional appearance would be perfect for him.

When one of our biggest assets is team spirit it can only help to have young lads like this coming through.
