Paul Scholes is a notoriously tight bastard. I once paid for his Greggs order because he 'left' his card in the car and he had no cash. Still owes me for five steak bakes.*

Ryanair isn't all bad. The seats are uncomfortable and the legroom is dire compared to other similarly cheap airlines (Jet2 and Flybe are better, for example), but it gets you there.

Unless we can recruit in 2 key positions CAM and FWD then we won't last the distance but we will do better than last year. When Jan comes we will be hoping that a talented mid-table prem player sees the way we play and operate as an attractive option for a 6 month loan and decide to come here e.g. Jermaine Defoe, if we can then get a young league 1 striker who is currently in form and splash a bit cash on the CAM position then it will have been a great trf window IMO given the current climate £7mil should cover the outlay.

Ive thought this for quite a while, even a few weeks back where we was top of the league.

It isn’t a criticism of Chris Wilder, the board, the players or anyone else associated with the club, as I believe given the financial constraints that we operate under we are already vastly over performing and playing some excellent football that is entertaining to watch.

We are in a Division where there are several clubs that can afford to spend a lot more money that we can, have infinitely stronger squads that we do, you just need to look at some of the bench warmers at the top end of the championship for evidence of that, and I worry what will happen if we pick up a couple of long term injuries and get offered stupid money and take it for one of our established first teamers.

The last few years, especially the 6 long years in League One have sharpened my mind a bit about football, and made me a lot more pragmatic about the bigger picture, and since the return of Chris Wilder, it has made going to the Lane every week a pleasure again rather than a chore, but I also do think that the football we have played and some of the excellent results we have enjoyed have raised expectations higher than they should be, and it is too easy to get carried away.

I think being realistic what we need to do is stick firmly behind Chris Wilder, and I also think he knows what the crack is, wait for the mess in the boardroom to get sorted out, although they do deserve some credit for allowing Wilder some more to manouvere in the summer transfer market and hopefully that when it is sorted out in the boardroom that we still have Wilder and the nucleus of the squad we have now, and whoever gains full control sees the chance we have got and invests sensibly to give Wilder what he needs next season to get us over the line, because we are still in an incredibly good position and not a million miles away from where we want to be.

All that is needed from everyone is a bit of time and patience, and understanding that at the minute we are already punching well above our weight, and if we show that bit of patience then eventually we will get what we want.

Whenever we've got promoted it's always been more about the manager than the players we've had.

There was always an underdog feeling about us, a bunch of unsophisticated, uncompromising, battlers that never gave up. It didn't matter as much if somebody spent more money than us because if they wanted to beat us they'd have to work their bollocks off, and as we know, many of them aren't willing to work that hard.

Wilder now has to do the same, the difference is that the football is much better to watch. It might take us three or four seasons but improving on what we've got, and playing the way we do we will be better equipped in the Premier league than we were before

It all depends on the two owners who have displayed a desire to pursue self interests first rather than the good of the Club. Reading this thread it seems we are due another Rhetoric Away Day in a weeks time. Anymore orchestrated anti Prince bashing risks the Prince withdrawing co-operation on the JTW funds so I hope the usual agitators STFU.

CW needs the two owners to put the dispute to one side for a moment and agree how the JTW is to be funded. They couldn't agree on that for the Summer window and the Brooks money seems to be currently financially propping up the Club. Theres probably some money left over in the transfer kitty from the Summer but probably not enough to meet CW's requirements. If they don't agree then the options are little or no money or sell an asset such as Oconnell to fund new players. Either way if these two courses of action are followed then we risk losing CW.

We were in a good position last season when the two owners fell out and we lost the opportunity to kick on. To CW's credit he has got us into the same position again. Last year the owners were negligent in losing the opportunity this year it will be unforgivable.

I think what Wilder’s done this season is prove that last season’s great start wasn’t a fluke that could have taken our owners by surprise and written of as simply post-promotion momentum. No such excuses this time around. This team as it stands is very close to the real deal and the general consensus is that even a couple of additions could see it at least competing in the play-offs.

We all know that it will be difficult for the owners to temporarily get around their current issues before the pending court case, but the facts are that this could be one of those seasons where just a little bit of a gamble unlocks the door to £millions and if we got promoted, both parties would surely benefit whoever gains control if the detail is agreed on paper upfront. So the options open to them is to possibly own a Premier League club on the up with buoyant growing support and a top manager, or a Championship club with disillusioned fans and a team minus some of its better players and possibly the manager.

I’d have thought there had to be a way to temporarily get around the issue the issue IF both parties are willing to try for the benefit of the club (and possibly themselves), but I’m not sure personally that this sorry mess is anything to do with what’s best for the club. Let’s just hope they both see some sense in the coming weeks, although personally, I’m not sure HRH gives a toss what happens on the field. High 5 to King Kev eh? That’s got to be a first for me.

However there are loads of cases where clubs beat the odds and gained promotion.
Last year Cardiff had one of the lower budgets but still gained auto promotion.
If Cardiff City can gain promotion then why not us?
