i will take that....good in the second half...Reading were very poor.....but again...without Duffy, as per the first half, we look very average.
I just wish they’d practice shooting with McGoldrick in training?!.
Anyway, United third, Wednesday in crisis and Reading going down....what a difference 2yrs makes.

We tried to play counter atacking first half. Backfired even though we had great chances. If Dids had lifted that over the keeper or smashed it in with his left foot it would have been job done.

We reverted to OUR game 2nd half and dropped plan B and went back to plan A. Was obvious the change was going to be made at HT.

Far superior 2nd half and did they actually get into our box more than a couple of times 2nd half?

Well done CWAK and the lads.

Great win today, had it only been a drawn game against a very poor Reading team,we would have been distraught,as Edwards kept on saying they were there for the taking.

It could be one of the most important wins of the season,it has sent us soaring up into 3rd place, and has kicked that Sky no win hoodoo up the arse.

Praise Billy for being in the right place at the right time.

Amazing how bad Reading are considering they've only lost 1 in the previous 8 home games. ;)

There might be a reason Clement set them up the way they did, negative and stifling, because they simply aren’t capable of attacking teams. That answers the above point about 1 loss in 8 home games.

They’re the worst side we’ve played all season, including Bolton. That’s why we won, even after gifting them the ball most of the first half and at times in the second when in reality we were a different class to them without ever getting going.

There was no need to line up as we did against Brentford because there was never going to be the space in behind as it proved. Duffy must always play. McGoldrick could’ve had a hat trick if he could finish/watch his line. Washington unlucky maybe but it’s fine margins at this level and I don’t think these 2 have goals in them so pairing them is a mistake.

Overall a good win but an expected one. Friday poses a much tougher test and we must improve.

3rd in the league - good way to end the day.

They had a lot of pace and power but no heart, they looked like no one wanted to take responsibility, lacked heart

Good manager could sort that out ,good win today it's always hard when your up against a side trying to stop you winning rather than having a go at winning themselves

Perhaps a little clue there as to the reality of playing professional football matches against teams who are obviously inferior?

IT'S NOT ALWAYS AS EASY AS WE ASSUME ;)

We needed a good result from a poor-ish performance

Billy made an interesting comment on the radio before the Leeds match. He said that he was really disappointed that we didn't win at Rotherham because we didn't deserve to win that one and winning games where you are dead jammy ( I paraphrase ) is the sign of a team which will probably succeed.

I knew exactly what he meant, how many times have you seen it happen against us where some lot turn up play crap and nick one in the last couple of minutes then go on to do well. Leeds didn't play crap but they didn't deserve to win.

I think it was clear from all the fans around me the Leeds game was so finely balanced and could have gone either way. Either team could have won or lost and sadly it just didn’t fall for us on the afternoon

We gifted Leeds the win..,..I thought we were the better team....more a bad day at the office for us and Deano for that matter

We just needed the win today however it came, because Friday will be a much tougher test.

Job done and a win on TV, which was starting to become a monkey on our back.
That’s right. You have to go right back to the Brentford game two weeks ago for that.

Did you realise also that we only seem to win on TV lately when Lundstram starts?

Brentford match was on the red button. I was talking about televised main events, in which case Leeds away last season was the last time we won - unless I have missed one?

We grind out a result (against an admittedly poor side), we win on Sky, we keep a clean sheet, McNulty doesn't score, and we are third in the fucking Championship. I'll take that.

Know what you be by “grinding out a result” but it’s a bit misleading
At the end of the day we were far superior to a poor Reading side and clearly deserved to win.

‘Grinding it out” is a term used when you’re not at your best, sit back and hold on to a lead.
We werent at our best 1st half but 2nd half we upped it and there was only ever going to be 1 winner.

Take your point - we were better than that makes it sound.

Fair enough! I don’t have Sky nowadays so I’m not up to date with this red button malarkey. All I know is if I press the red button the telly goes off, or the attendant bursts into the toilet!

First half was shit. Second half we played a lot better becuase Duffy came on. Perverse this but we need to replace Duffy.

It's competition for Duffy that we need that will end up being his replacement. Duffy MK2....

Duffy to start and then Duffy to come on for Duffy after 60 mins would be bloody lovely. :D

Agree Fanny. Reading never came out a d we wernt prepared to mix it first half maybe we gave them too much respect we put it right 2nd half ,very poor from Reading sitting deep hoping we would over commit. We were very disciplined and took charge 2nd half ,deserved victory.

We were unlucky with the two offside goals but it showed intent and Billy’s goal showed how to do it. Wilder gave opportunity to Washington and it would have been good if he had scored. I’ll take any win especially at that late stage in the game. I’m fed up with Sky. Being a traditionalist I like my games on a Saturday. All credit to the fans who made it to the game yesterday.

I don't buy in to the narrative we were bad.

We went away from home, scored two, had two disallowed, one cleared off the line and Deano didn't have a shot to save all game.

Sadly though, it appears that doesn't fit with some peoples' agendas that the sky is falling in...

I think we played better than many of us are stating tactically to be honest. In the first half we tried letting them come on to us to hit them on the break & were disciplined in sticking to that, & if the chances that we created were put away the game would have been done at half time. Second half we played our normal game & pushed them further & further back as the game wore on, we got the goals we deserved & won without reaching the heights we know we can. They really didn't have a threat at all, Hendo literally had nothing to do, the defence looked solid which will give them confidence no matter how poor the opposition were so all in all a good day.

They say that teams that succeed are those that win when they don't play well
But I would rather play well and win.
Its ok playing badly and winning occasionally but it's a problem if it becomes the norm

It also makes you wonder why Kevin Blackwell's teams got no success because they played shit every time they won

Wouldn’t disagree with this view on our first half tactics, and yes, I also agree there were good chances we could/should have scored from in the first half, but I still felt we didn’t play the first half very well. Gave away the ball too many times, allowed them to win first and second balls too often. I know we were allowing them to come onto us to open the space behind, but we really seemed to lack energy both in and out of possession.

But as you say, the half time tactical change and the second half performance was well good enough to make it comfortable in the end. Good result that we really needed. Well played the Blades!

Not a bad weekend hearing:

If it wasn't for Dawson Rotherham would be away and gone.

and

"That's a forty yard pass from the centre half to the winger, thing is the winger is his fellow centre half".

Good point that, actually. Should mention it to Chris. McGoldrick is wasted training with Henderson and Moore really
