Probably the most important window for many years, certainly of Wilders tenure.....will the board back him.....will he spend the money wisely......will we see a surprise departure from out of nowhere ala Lee Evans......????

We can all suggest which areas we need to strengthen but I suppose it will come down to what we are willing to pay in terms of both fee and more importantly, wages.....we appear to have lost out on several targets, (Waghorn being the most high profile I suppose recently) due to wages and I suspect this will again be our major stumbling block.....a lot of teams in the top half will be more attractive simply because they can pay more.

2 or 3 quality signings and we could push on instead of fading away like we did last year.

A Duffy alternative and a striker must be the priority surely, we need to be more potent, more powerful in the final third......if we could possibly, somehow land Jota & Assombalonga it would be amazing!

No doubt CW already has his targets lined up and I would imagine preliminary talks may have already taken place...lets just hope he gets the backing from the board and can get his business done quickly...including outwards if necessary..

Edit - probably should have been in General Chat...sorry!

I expect us to chase 2 or 3 players all January (who we have no realistic chance of signing due to their wages), and then 'missing' out at the last minute. Hey but there is always the summer transfer window.

It's like groundhog day on here coming up to a transfer window. It's always "the most important one", we're always expected to chase unrealistic targets and just miss out, we've never got any money and at some point or other someone will mention a broken fax machine.

For what it's worth, I expect Wilder will know what we need and will try his best to get it. He will be restricted by funds because of the ownership battle, but that didn't stop relatively high bids in summer and we ended up spending next to nothing. A few clubs will be a bit wiser as to how much money they need to save because of their respected positions in the league and with financial fair play, a few youngsters will be moving around a la Ben Woodburn, so opportunities will be there.

Trust in Wilder. He's not going to Southampton.

We haven't got the funds, what's new ? So, we're better off signing nobody.
If they're not going to be pushing for Duffy, Sharp or Fleck's place, it's best to not bother.

There's no point signing four or five more players that are no better than what we've got

Last January was the exception to the we haven't got the funds for decent permanent transfers but the loan window now opens. We all thought we'd done decent business last Jan bringing in Evans, Holmes and Leonard on permanents and Wilson on loan. Sadly we now know none of them were up to it (possible exception of Leonard) and we still made a decent profit on Leonard and Evans but I'd settle for just one decent loan of it makes the difference.

I predict wages will come into it at some point.

In which case, why should we expect anything to change?

We'll probably see a repeat of the summer window.

I disagree that its the most important for years.
Purchasing - Its not
Retention - Its up there

We're sat in 6th place (currently). I think its safe to say that we will get 16 points between now and the end of the season to stay up, so relegation isn't a concern
We have zero injury concerns
We have two players for each position, questions only remain on Left Wing back (Johnson or Lafferty) and the Attacking mid slot (Woodburn, but also McG can fill in)
We have several players out on loan which can be recalled.

I agree we are 2-3 quality signings away from a big push. But its not going to break the club if we don't succeed.

I would be happily surprised if there were funds for anything more than a couple of loan signings.

Will we pay the proposed £ 2 million for Johnson from Boro as well as finding money for other signings ?

Haven't we still to pay for Norwood in January? this budget has to stretch a long way

Really can't see us signing Johnson permanently.

I think he has something to offer but if Boro are hoping to recoup most of what they paid, forget it.

Don't get the Johnson signing. Lad can't get a start and here a figure of £2.5m is being banded about. There is absolutely no way CW will sign him permanently if that figure is correct

So, you don't know either ? It seems to me that loads of people know what we don't have, but nobody knows what we do have ?

Are you really expecting some random guy on a message forum to know what our budget is?

Logic dictates that it won’t be a lot, discussing the possibility of us spending up to £7m on one player will only lead to disappointment

I think joc will go .He just doesn't look happy to me don't know why I just have a feeling he wants a move to the prem

I agree mate. As much as I don’t want to see Jack go, I’d be surprised if he was still here at the end of the JTW

An attacking midfielder (permanent) and a striker on loan, is what we need and that’s it. Rather than split £5m across 3 players, just go and get Freeman or someone of that ilk.

We’ve been fine scoring by and large and realistically we ain’t buying 2 quality strikers and a number 10. The latter I think is more important than a striker.

Kieran Dowell or Duane Holmes to compete with Duffy.
Another right wing back (not convinced about Freeman or Baldock)
Matt Smith or Kieffer Moore

Can't see us spending big unless someone is sold.

If we could sign Shane Long on loan, and John Swift and Josh Vela on permanents I think we could go all the way.

Unfortunately Steve, I can see you being 100% correct there.

Wilder won't sign numbers for sake of it and I don't believe we have anything near the funds needed to compete in the market. I'm not expecting a thing.

We've still got the Brooks cash. We've sold Duffy at least twice and when Brooks is sold next month for £60m we've got a good sell on clause, so no need to worry at all.......

I'm here until the end of the JTW
