Same at Villa v Brum,one line of stewards...only in Sheffield for some reason...I don't get the front rows of the Lane End not being used either,total overkill...if we ripped the front rows out,they'd have the next 2 rows netted off,it's ridiculous...Where else but the Lane do they use the steel walls?...Only at the Lane it seems.

I cant even remember it being used at theirs last season? Were a line of police penning us in for a bit then just police horses etc up to top of road before there was a few handbags and we all got stopped again before tram but cant remember seeing the wall at all

I said this before the Leeds game & i want to defend us because i truly believe it is ott. Especially when the Manchester derby biggest game in english football doesnt need it. But i also have to be realistic & unfortunately as in everything in life a small minority always spoils it for the majority. Few days after the sheffield derby i came across a picture from social media. when we needed for fans to be on there best behaviour & prove a point. a small minority couldnt control themselves. To be realistic the picture below was like Christmas came at once. Because when the police bosses want justification for why do you need them extra funds/coppers/stewards/metal barriers. Policemen show them that & bosses give them a blank cheque. & we have to pay the price. Horrible but true

Not exactly the Somme is it, and certainly not something that only happens in Sheffield

While i agree syp havnt got a clue it seems in policing the sheffield derby at either the lane or swill, i honestly couldnt imagine a single line of stewards between both sets of fans in the ground!

Why ?
Sheffield is no worse than other places, in fact it's a lot better then most

At the Manchester /Liverpool /London derbies the vast majority of fans either side of the single line of segregation are season ticket holders. They have a lot to lose if causing trouble. Until we get promoted we will have randoms occupying said seats, nightmare to police

The thing is with the crowd restrictions in place plod only have to control around 30,000 fans in Sheffield and struggle to do so. Go to a local derby in Liverpool, Manchester or London and you could well see a crowd of more than twice the size. The away end at the lane is separate from the other stands so you don't really need a line of stewards between home and away fans, pretty much the same at the sty too. All this netting seats off and steel walls is beyond ridiculous now and just shows the high ranks of SYP up for the useless clowns they have been for the last 40 years or so.
It's a pity the SYP didn't put as much effort in keeping grooming gangs separate from young girls in Rotherham.

I just don't buy this Sheffield derby "high risk" stuff. There's been some good responses to my original concerns/questions, but we're no nearer to getting answers from the powers that be. It's 29 years since Hillsborough, but the paranoia seems to be getting worse, not better. It's a game in a segregated stadium with segregated stands and a ticketing system. If the picture on this thread was from the 9th November, it's sad, but perhaps should be balanced by pictures of peaceful fans being held back on Denby Street when Bramall Lane appeared deserted apart from a few straggling Wednesday fans who's only interest appeared to be to get into the ground.

How does anybody get a ticket for the game if they are a "Random"

Only two games a season require 500 points and membership any other game you could be a walk up .

But then you are known to the club.

The club knows the name, address and inside leg measurement of everybody in the stadium, and only well known away fans get tickets for their section
Just because most of our games are not complete sell outs doesn't mean that totally unknown random people make up the difference in games that are sold out

I was under the impression that for games you could just go to the ticket office and buy a ticket for any game you wanted,except for the high profile games. I didn’t know you had to give your name and address to get tickets for say the Barnet game

A random person could buy a ticket for a game like Barnet, but they will have their details taken and be put on the database.
The club won't take the risk of unknown people that could cause trouble in the stadium, they'd have a lot of awkward questions to answer if 100 people started trying to get to the away fans or launched missiles and nobody was able to identify them.
It can create problems, if for instance we are playing Leeds and a Blade who lives in Leeds wants to go to Bramall Lane for the first time in years. How does he prove he's a United fan
Games like this and the Sheffield Derby is tricky because a United fan and a Wendy fan will most likely have a South Yorkshire address, it's difficult to segregate, hence the 500 points rule

So how come all these blades fans who have been coming to random games for years are not on the system. We had pages and pages on here of blades who couldn’t get tickets because they are not on the system

I'm not sure,
Just talking from my personal experience of living away from Sheffield for a few years around about the time the database was being prepared

I didn't go to many games during my time away and the first time I bought a ticket they took all my details, name, address, date of birth etc
These details then got updated when I came back to live in Sheffield
Maybe they did it because my credit card was registered to a non local address
