Stearman

Wildly wrong?? We have conceded more down the pipe this season than we did at this stage last season with Egan at the centre. Everyone wrongly blamed young Hendo Saturday for the fuck up, if Egan could actually pass a football it would never have happened.
When your opinion is outnumbered by 100-1, do you still not have the slightest doubt about it?

I've never met or heard any other Blade that would agree with you. Considering it’s football, and it’s all about opinions, you are remarkably on your own on this one.

2. at this stage last season Jake Wright had played the majority of the games (including all the wins)

I think it took about 8 or 9 starts before Stearman was in a winning line up last season.

Do Reindeers really eat carrots?
I suspect they eat mince pies. The carrot was usually only half eaten but the mince pies had gone. And how that fat beardy bloke got down the chimney and fought his way through a blazing Rayburn God only knows!

Magical though eh!

Jeezus ! Another one that thinks he knows better than the management!
He’s a defender,defends well,good header of the ball,clears his lines, safety first,good leader,pity he can’t pass a ball like Pirlo.
Where do we get some of these gonks from on the board ?

I recall Classius Clay once defying massive odds against. The rest as they say is history.

1. no we haven’t

3. It was Hendos fault.

1. Shit

2. Bull shit

3. Fucking mega bull shit

Egan is the better defender. Stearman is decent.
But.... If we add that Jack is magic and Basham is MOTM most games....
WTF DO WE LET SO MANY GOALS IN?

I agree with the OP. Egan is more of a Morgan type, a bit of a clogger. Nothing wrong with that, I loved Morgan. But the way United play you need someone who is more comfortable on the ball and Stearman fits that bill better. A perfectly reasonable OP and deserving of a reasoned discussion but instead the bedwetters pile in with a show of outrage. Fucking hell, even a Shakey Jakey showed up.

There's only one fat bastard that brings presents in our house pal, n I don't fit in any bleeding chimney, I havent got one anyhow.

Richard Stearman is an excellent footballer and we are fortunate to have him as cover. He was 31 years of age last August and is as good now as he'll ever be.

John Egan is a better defender right now, he was 26 in October, so can still improve what is already an impressive range of abilities.

Meanwhile if old Brucey let's us know what brand of liquor he favours I think we can all have a merry Xmas ;)

To be fair, I think he tried to make an honest post, even if he’s in a tiny minority.

Your thread was done for no other reason that to spit your dummy out and gain attention. That was classic snowflake / bedwetter post for you.

Whether you prefer Egan or Stearman it is a fair enough question to ask why do we concede so many goals? It is getting to the stage where we must score at least 2 if not 3 to record a win, which ever way you look at it it is not good enough.

I really rated Stearman before he joined us. I’d seen him play brilliantly for Wolves (first time around). In his first few games for us I thought he was pretty poor tbh. Then when he got that extended run in the side last season I thought he was very good. He looked a bit lightweight but was good in the air and on the ball.

At the end of last season I thought we lacked a big brute of a centre half who would bully centre forwards. Someone a bit like Morgs. I thought if we signed that kind of player it would complement the slimline Stearman and be a good partnership.

I didnt rate Egan before he joined us. In his first few games for us I thought he was very average. I’ve grown to like him because he is brave and good in the air. A decent stopper, but not quite the brute I had in mind.

In the last match I found him very frustrating. He seemed afraid to go forwards and his game. Insisted of rolling 5 yard passes backwards and sideways and the occasional punt upfield.

But...that’s just one game. I think he’s a decent player and no one apart from Bash and McGoldrick stood out yesterday.

I’d like to see him be better on the ball though. I think Stearman is better on the ball than him but Egan is more commanding in the air and physically stronger.

Fuck it! I don’t like either of em! Gerra proper centre half in!

I think the way Leeds played yesterday necessitated Egan having more of the ball at his feet than anyone wanted, including Egan. Starting attacks from the back is clearly not his forte (not a criticism, just an observation), so his limitations were a little more exposed yesterday than they had been.

[hands in the Air] - I know, I know!

It's because we play with only 3 defenders and two of them regularly overlap the wingbacks.

If you want to know why we concede watch our goal versus Derby. Both our right wing back and our right centre back are in the opposition 6 yard box and it's the Cente back who finishes it - ditto the 84th minute "winner" at Rotherham.

Play that way and you are bound to concede a few. Bring it on I say.

Stick with the herd mate, a stampede to good old Sheffield mediocrity. I mean, it would be a bit out of character for you to show a bit of ambition and come up with a suggestion or two on how we could improve things instead of accepting our lot.

I think we should “get rid of the current lot, sack the board, and get some money spent”.

That covers it, doesn’t it?

If sticking with the herd means not spouting the complete bollocks that you do, then “baaaa”. :)

Egan is a waste of money for me, Stearman is a better footballer and leader in defence. He should get a run of games IMO

Stearman in the 2nd half of last season was the reason Egan was brought in - that's why the management team changed it.

Some said BOTH would start the season - some knew he wouldn't and was backup to Egan.

Egan is not the problem we have now. Egan can be part of the solution going forward.

UTB

I think Stearman is probably more comfortable on the ball in fairness.

In every other department I'd prefer Egan. Heading, crunching, etc.

Agree with that. I like Stearman, he's a great defender. Unfortunately he's competing for a single CB position due to the way we play. If we played a Flat 442, we would have 4 CBs fighting for 2 positions. Neither Egan or Stearman can play Basham or O'Connell's position.

BTW - the OP has to be the post most wide of the mark in 2018 thus far

I can't agree with you here.

I think Egan is stronger, much, much better in the air and just as good on the deck.

Egan struggled on Satdi, but so would have Stearman, who was just as weak when pressured on the ball last season.

Stearman is decent cover in this league. If everyone does to us what Leeds did, then we'll change our tactics rather than our players. Hopefully most teams will fail to do the same

I'll stay out of the herd and continue spouting bollocks thanks very much if it means I won't be enthralled with another mid-table finish this season.
