McGoldrick chance a game

Carrying? He covers more work than just about anybody. He brings so much to the team it's unreal, it's not his fault it's only Sharp that scores in the team.

Also, he currently he has 5 goals. At this rate, he will have what, 12 goals for the season? More than reasonable for a second striker.

He’s been outstanding.

If the OP won £2,000,000 on the lottery, he’d complain it wasn’t £2,000,001.

This. And this alone actually. If we had a finisher we would have got maximum points last week and at least a draw this. I like McGoldrick no question but if we want to mount that final hurdle that makes us promotion contenders we need to splash out on a top level goal scorer who needs one chance and one chance only.
We don’t have the money for that kind of striker as you’re probably talking 15-20 million pounds!!. Let’s be realistic. FFS.
It’s going to be another mid table finish. We’re gonna have to get used to that whilst our co owners are squabbling in the high court!!!. I genuinely have a fear that Chris could leave unless our owners sort their shit out!!. He can’t be expected to produce a promotion winning side for less than 10 million quid!!. UTB

And that is the problem right there and is why we aren't going to go up.

unfortunately it will be the same in january we need foreign players if we want quality because there's no way we are going to spend 10m+ on British only players and only players we sign are freebies, loans and cheap players

And that is the problem right there and is why we aren't going to go up.

And if you had said to most of us 2 years ago we would be in a play off battle for a Premiership place we would have bitten your hand off. We could and perhaps should be happy with our lot. I certainly am. But if we want to go the next step then freebies and loans will probably mean we fall short. The only people who can then be held responsible are the squabbling owners. Unless of course Wilder says he is happy at that. Which I somehow doubt.

I think you read my post wrong. I also think your 15-20m (ffs) is also not necessarily correct. None of us know what it would cost until we dip our toe in. I would say 7-10m would secure us what we need but that’s as speculative as anyone else’s comment.

Mcgoldrick is playing really well..

...but is the dictionary definition of “not a natural goal scorer”

So if McGoldrick puts in a man of the match performance next week and lays it off to Billy for the winner, will the agenda still be only two from open play? Or would it be better if he scores a hat trick and we lose 4-3? We win or lose as a team, individual stats are fucking irrelevant
They kind of are relevant though aren't they? If one of your strikers misses a decent chance every game and doesn't score in any of the games either, then it's relevant if the team don't win.

According to Benjamin bloom he just can't get the power in his shots due to all the injury's hes had ,hence the free transfer

For me he is a valuable piece of the team ,links up play ,drops deep and is entertaining to watch does a lot more in a game than Billy biglegs but let's drop him because he didn't cost millions

He hit one pretty well today, decent save from the ‘keeper (first half)

A top class striker needs to regain focus when chances are squandered.

Leon missed that chance on Tuesday. You can be sure he would've got into a mindset that if another chance came along he would bury it. He duly delivered from that superb cross from Washington.

McGoldrick snatches at chances. He isn't successful but doesn't use those misses to assist him when another comes along.

Think McG has been wonderful for a free, a big improvement on Donaldson, I salute him and his effort. He has too little support or decent early set ups to do well. I just wish when he has a chance in the box he was more composed instead of thrashing it, take your time or another touch and place it in the corner, make the keeper make a save, over the bar or wide wins nothing.

McGoldrick is fun to watch, and brings good things, but that's his 20th appearance this season and he's only scored twice from open play.

We need better than that.

There are plenty of better goal scorers, it’s not McGoldricks strength.
However McGoldricks quality, intelligence and link play is touching PL standard and if he could score he’d be worth over 15 million.

We don’t have 20 million to improve on McGoldrick unless we bring in someone who is of lower quality but is a better goal scorer.

Strikers are judged on goals. He hasn’t scored for 10 games and had at least a chance in every one of the last 4.

In general yes but there are exceptions.

In the England team Heskey had a poor scoring record but Michael Owen always said he was his preferred strike partner.
Heskey used to cause havoc in the opposition area and Owen used to pick up the pieces and score.

We play a clever build up/ passing/ keep possesion game and McGoldrick abilities suits that style really well.
Scoring isn’t really a problem for the team, so McG is doing something right.

Superb? Really ? How many chances does he create or finish?

For me it is him or Duffy.

Agree, I’ve been impressed with McGoldrick, didn’t realise he was such a good allround footballer with a good brain too.
Shame about his finishing but he’s a nice player to watch and I’m pleased we’ve got him.
Duffy is another one, such a great player to watch but he instinctively prefers to pass instead of shoot.

Is scoring not a problem? I’d argue that with increasing urgency. We’ve drawn a blank in 3 of our last 5.

He was free for a reason at the end of the day.

And he is good to watch. But we need goals.

Or alternatively from back here on Earth let’s drop him instead of Billy ‘biglegs’ (biglegs ffs can’t make it up, the level of disrespect to an actual living legend) because Billy’s got 10 goals and McGoldrick hasn’t scored in 10.

I've been a critic of McGoldrick throughout his spell at United; here's why. He plays as a link man, more of a number ten than a striker. He crowds out the space that is occupied by Duffy and leaves his strike "partner" isolated. This wouldn't be so much of a problem if either Mcgoldrick or Duffy would make a third man run beyond, or at least level with the other striker - but they don't. The net effect is that the strike partner is left completely isolated and United play lots of nice football in inoffensive, central areas. To score goals you have to get the ball wide and load the box with numbers, or get third man runners breaking the lines beyond the striker(s). Neither of them are likely with Mcgoldrick occupying a centre forward role. When Duffy came off and Mcgoldrick became the "ten" United looked a much bigger threat as Washington did break the lines. In summary: United are all fur and no knickers with Mcgoldrick up top. Possibly the best side in the division between both boxes ,without the quality to penetrate and punish teams.

Didn't go in though did it. His finishing is garbage and is costing us points. Don't give a fuck if he's an intelligant player TBH only interested in the end game which he is sadly lacking.

It didn’t, but the point was he can’t kick a ball hard anymore because of his injuries

Yeah, superb - as in, the goal would have capped a superb performance.
