Oh dear...

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell fears summer loan signing Keith Treacy could be ruled out for the rest of the season.

The Blackburn winger, 21, who agreed a six-month loan deal at Bramall Lane in the summer, sustained the injury during Saturday's defeat at Swansea, where he was forced out of the action midway through the first half.

Blackwell said: "It isn't looking too good and we'll have clarification after he has had a scan at 5pm.

"If it turns out to be cruciate ligament damage he will be out long-term, in the region of six to nine months.

"He knew something was wrong straight away when he felt his knee lock and then go backwards."

Get well soon Keef.

Looking for the silver lining, maybe if his loan is terminated we could get another loanee in?

The silver lining is that we can get another loanee by getting rid of the best one we have? Oh dear.

I think a combination of Reid, Stewart, Cotterill, Quinn and Ward will have to do for the left midfield position. If Treacy is out for the season, we should definitely be looking to get a quick striker on loan, rather than another left winger.

...erm if the best one we have is out for the season, then yes.

While it's sad he's likely got a bad injury; I'm not all that disappointed as like Bergers says, we have a number of players who can step in and it'll mean we have another slot open for a loan striker.

Treacy's been good, but he's not been amazing for my money and I'm interested to see what Reid can do with a start.

Yep, and unfortunately, he did come to us with an injury history.

Blackie does seem quite keen on Camara, he normally cans his trilaists quite quickly if he doesn't fancy them so as a free agent that would seem a good option if his wages aren't too high.

Reid and Cotts can both play on either side so it's not a huge problem and with Little and Wardy, possibly Pancake, we don't need to look for another winger when other areas are still a concern.

I wasn't having a go at your suggestion, rather I was saying that the silver lining is a pretty dismal one!
Ah reet! Yeah, I agree but with all the pessimists around I thought I'd get in there early with an "upside" (albeit a small one :)).

Except Cotts is bottling it yet again and Reid is patently crap and another wasted signing.
Apart from that, bang on.

Out of interest, did you see Reid pre-season? or is his rating based on the few minutes he's had in the league?

It's from seeing a headless chicken appear by the name of Reid whenever he appears on the pitch.
A bloke who can't control the ball but can run fast. They're ten a penny so we thought we'd better get one to get another body in where we might need one.
Never going to be good enough, hence his being nowhere near the first team for most of the season.
If we haven't got kids coming through who can play at least as well, we're really struggling.
Talking of which, it's embarrassing that we haven't got one young player - not a single one - worthy of being on the bench when we've been short.

Again, he was quite the opposite for me pre-season. Was great on the ball, electric pace and looked up far earlier than Cotterill allowing him to tailor the end product to the situation rather than doing the same trick/cross every single time.

I said numourous times that I thought he was the most exciting of the signings based on his time on the pitch.

He hasn't reproduced this in the first team, but how long has he had to show it?

Perhaps he won't be good enough, I just fail to see how you could possibly write him off at this stage.

Foxy, if this is THE Len, he can write a player off before he's been born!! ;-)

Ah I thought you'd gone quiet about the academy, good to know you are back on that hobby horse.

He was crap at Barnsley, Wolves didn't want him, he can't control a football, looks like he's got no composure - he's crap.
Will be out on loan before long.

Funny that, because the Barnsley folk I talked to would have loved to have signed him.

He may or may not come good, but again, in my opinion writing him off based on a few minutes plus how you perceive that others rate him is a little bit premature.

He was more or less a direct opposite to how you describe (other than his shooting, which was a little wayward) pre-season.

That proves nothing at all, but in my opinion warrents giving him a little more time than 4 late substitute appearances.... at least a couple of which you didn't actually see.

Reid simply hasn't had a proper run in the starting line up to write him off without him having at least 2-3 games in the side is a bit wrong. From what I've seen he looks stronger on the ball than Treacy in terms of battling for the ball with an opponent, I'm not sure if he is better running at a player and taking them on as I haven't seen it, also he does seem to have the pace to beat people. Like it has been stated he's had minutes on the field, there is no way you can make a valid judegemnet on him from what we have seen. Give him a chance for christ sake.

Seen enough and heard enough.
Though in the absence of anything else, we've got little alternative.
Say it again though, our academy should be embarrassed we can't produce a young winger as good as Reid.

What ever you say in all your wisdom, may be we have, maybe we don't.
Who knows what type of winger we have sat there at 15 just too young to make it to the first team yet. And I still say we haven't seen knowhere near enough of him, so in infinite wisdom of the situation I'll resevere my judgement to seeing him for myself.

Perhaps similarly to you with Reid they are only given about 5 minutes to impress and therefore all written off?

Out of interest, have you been watching the academy/reserves much?

Not seen them at all but if we haven't got someone as good something's very wrong.
Jonathan Forte plays regularly at this level, certainly more than Reid, and it's hard to believe we've gone backwards since he came through.

So you've decided to write off everyone you haven't actually seen at all because you've decided they are worse than a player you are convinced is completely useless after seeing him for a few minutes?

Take it you'd be more than impressed if we signed Jono back then? Perhaps we should bring in Darren Moore to replace Killa? I mean he plays regularly at this level.

Foxy - don't go trying to hit Len with logic he'll either change to the topic mid-argument or have computer problems like he does after a Blades victory.

UTB

I'm well aware of this, plenty of experience :D

Just had a crap day is all, it's stress relief even though I know it's pointless.

Talking of the academy, I was pretty impressed with both the wide players who started the other week against Bolton (the only time i've seen them I hasten to add). Think both were first year scholars so likely considered too young at the moment. Personally I would say they simply wouldn't cope physically just yet.

I was also impressed with both the lads who played centre half although neither was actually a centre half. I believe we have a very young U18 squad this year and maybe in a years time we will see some breaking through.

Oakland - did you watch the U18 Milk Cup on BBC digi telly in the summer ? A very young Blades team got all the way to the final agianst MUFC and aquited themselves very well.

No I missed that one, but the day I went up there I was told we had 7 first year scholars in the team, think that means they're just turned 16. I was impressed with the way they try and play and will certainly go up again and would recommend it to anyone.
