Yeah I agree ,would like to think we'd be at least interested in players like this

I'd guess it'll be £800,000 in wages between January and May plus a loan fee of probably £2 million

£2.8 million ish for a player that could get us promoted

If it doesn't work it's hardly broke the bank, but if it does OMG

I would take Wickham in an instant if he is fit. To me he is just the type of player we need , big , fast , & mobile with an eye for goals .
He's big. Not fast or mobile though. I'd be gutted if we got him.always injured as well

Neal Maupay
Brentford
104 mins per goal.
1252 mins played
12 goals scored
Here's yer man , club just lost there long time manager to villa , only striker ahead of billy in the league at moment , go get him McCabe!

Got to here before I saw anything sensible.

I would see if we could get Calvert-Lewin for 6 months - we need pace and mobility and physically he's now a different animal than when he left. Only a bit part player at Everton hasn't started since September, admittedly still in match day squad there but getting a couple of minutes here and there - could be an ideal fit. He's got a goal for about every 110 minutes when he has played.

we don't go for foreign players so scrap maupay out of your heads lol

Yes, we are better placed in the League than Brentford so surely it's only a case of making some shit offer for him

Nope, we would need to push the boat out and pay whatever it costs. But you knew that already.

Che Adams
Birmingham
150 mins per goal
1202 mins played
8 Goals scored
2 Assists

He features in almost every game for Everton. No chance they will let him go unless they buy again. He's their 3rd choice striker. Would be like us selling Clarke now.

Michael Brown (season 2002/2003 vintage).

If we had him now we would be out of sight at the top.

Spot on. Also just look how Man City do it. Play around the box similar to us. Strikers are hardly Linford fckin Christie, but a combination of vision, movement and creativity trumps pace. We obviously dont have the world class players that city do so its harder for us to create openings when we play as we do and teams play with 11 defenders.

Citeh play 4-3-3, and have pace to burn through their FB/WB's and outside forwards. Walker, Mendy, Mahrez, Sane & Sterling. Jesus is no slouch & Aguero is considerably more mobile & pacey than our CF's. They also have a ball playing, technically competent midfield 3, so can vary the type, pace, tempo and area of attack.

Somebody mentioned a Leyton Orient player...

Well, another one from the National League who is a bit of a powerhouse and late bloomer is Danny Rowe of AFC Fylde..

Madine and Fletcher? What the fuck were some people on this thread drinking this weekend?
Fooking Madine , 7 million for him !! That's got to be brown paper bag time for Warnock ! Most expensive reserves player ever .

I saw snippets of the Liverpool v Fulham game yesterday and Mitrovic is now a competent PL striker, we might be able to sign a "Mitrovic-lite" but we'd never drop on with someone that good.

I'm hoping Wilder has someone up his sleeve as most of the suggestions on here will just be a makeshift option. When looking at players outside of the current starting lineups for clubs it will take 2 months minimum to get match fit, by which point it's too late. Many people have said it but we really do need to cast the net a bit wider to find someone as we will end up spending a chunky loan fee and extortionate wages or a £5m transfer fee plus wages for no better than what we already have (albeit they should be younger so can improve us in future seasons).

Rock and hard place or what?!

But....wages.

Or the £10-12m price tag. Similar with Ollie Watkins. These kind of players will go to a bigger/richer club - probably in the PL - who can afford a punt and, if it doesn't come off it, doesn't hurt them too much.

Even if we could afford such vast sums, there's no guarantee it'd pay off (see Rhodes, Jordan). Britt Assombalonga is a case in point. He cost Forest (up to) £8m and now 'boro have paid £15m. His record is OK but he's phenominally wasteful.

A decision needs to be made in JTW, because our mainline attack isn’t good enough to win promotion. 6 goals in the last 5, and 4 of those in one game.

It would also appear that Washington & Johnson will join the list of Holmes, Leonard, Evans, Lunny, Thomas, etc. as shirt fillers.

That Stirling bloke is like a short Billy Whitehurst isn’t he?

The problem we have isn't the strikers we have when Plan A is working it's the fact we don't have anything different for Plan B when Plan A isn't working.

For me we need a big, horrible cunt in the Hanson mould to chuck on and cause havoc when Plan A isn't working.

Not sure would be available that fits the bill but surely someone out there we could get?

funny i was watching the game thinking bollocks to the principles, what we need here is Hanson and just start launching the fooker :D

It was a calculated/logical/ wise risk.

Cardiff were up near the top playing a long ball style. Warnock was concerned about injuries so knew it was wise to buy some insurance for his strike force. He needed a limited/ cheap but physical long ball striker. Thought they could get Madine on the cheap as he was valued at 3 million.

The problem was Bolton couldn’t afford to sell their main striker as it would mean certain relegation.
Hence the transfer fee increased to a rediculous 8 million for a player worth 3 million max.
However the waste of 5 million didn’t matter as they were promoted anyway.

Agree, in league 1 clubs eventually worked us out by defending deep parking the bus and we struggled.

Then Wilder bought the giant but limited Hanson. We then went more direct lumping into the box we looked far more dangerous.
Clubs then realised they couldn’t sit back as Hanson height and physicality was causing havoc in their box, so they pushed up.

Hanson got some stick from our fans regards his limited ability but he played a big part in helping us gain promotion.

Matt Smith at QPR.

That's the thing. If we get an early goal then Plan A usually works absolutely fine and the strikers we have are more than adequate for the task. The problem we have is when we don't get that early goal and the opposing team just sticks 10 men behind the ball is that we have no Plan B and we keep doing the same things.

Don't get me wrong i love the way we play as it's an absolute joy to watch but we've already thrown away at least 5 points this season just off the top of my head by not having "something different" to switch it up. If we don't remedy this then we can kiss goodbye to promotion.
