He was superb tonight and leading the pigs a merry dance yet he get's hauled off. He wasn't tired or injured as he literally sprinted off the pitch to let the sub on.
Duffy should imo ,been the one to go off for Leon with Goldie taking Duffy's role. Strange substitution for me.

I would’ve taken Sharp off actually, not because he deserved it but because he’d worked himself into the ground. He looked out on his feet.

It was a tough call but McG isn't renowned for playing 90 minutes and I thought he was blowing out of his arse when he came off.

Think Wilder wanted to rough up their CBs a bit and probably figured a bit of height in defence at set pieces to stop them nicking it wouldn't hurt. Plus, Sharp was robbed of a chance in January and perhaps, just maybe Wilder felt he owed him the chance.

I'd have put Washington on over Clarke because they're similar but Washington is quicker, but we have a situation where, as good as McG is around the pitch, Billy is still a lot more likely to stick it in the net, so you can't afford to sub him in tight games.

If we had a couple of million for a striker and a Duffy sub option we're running away with it. It's the only aspect that puts us behind Norwich, West Brom, Leeds etc. Everywhere else we're as good or better.

McGoldrick is a bit of an enigma for me. He's got a deceptively lazy swagger about him, but he's a skillful player with a great engine.

Agreed. McGoldrick was superb tonight, his link up play was fantastic.

Should have been Billy making way sadly.

People have mentioned that we need a plan B, I agree. But we also need to bloody shoot when a man is free and within 20 yards of goal.

Apart from the penalty miss I actually thought he was our best player! Perhaps Billy might have scored if he'd taken it , we don't know , but I think it was more of a very good save than a miss. Incidently , as far as I can remember , I can only ever recall one more penalty award in my 55 years of watching Sheffield derbies , that was Dane Whitehouse when we lost 3-1. somebody correct me if I am wrong?

I doubt wilder would ever let sentiment change his subs/selection, he plays the best side, end of...

Absolutely bewildered by that. He was running the show and left a hole in midfield that the pigs used as an outlet for the rest of the game. When Clarke came on I thought “OK they’ve parked the bus so we’re going long and hoping for a knock down in the box but I don’t recall him getting anything to attack. Add to that, his positioning was really poor and, for me, the chance to win it went out the door with that substitution.
However, atmosphere tonight was rocking, fantastic performances from all sides of the ground.

Fabulous performance.
As was there keeper and defence.
Bus parked.end of.
They can take what from that game? ?
They are awful.
If they make the bottom 7 that is an achievement.
Tonight was there game of the season. You could see how much it means to them that they kept a clean sheet. The tide has well and truly turned.
I expected more than that from them to be honest. We battered them like a chip shop sausage.
No disgrace lads.
And they know that.

Probably tired
That's the problem with over 30's working hard and being our most influential players

It was just a thought, hence why I said maybe. But Wilder did say he dropped a bollock not getting Billy on the pitch in January, perhaps felt he could be the one to win it. In any case the change was more likely tactical anyway.

I think Chris is in a difficult position as Duffy is god to some of our fans. David is our best midfielder when he drops back to dig out the ball. I agree with you especially as they were terrified by Leon' s height & strength when he came on.

Sorry but Leon did sweet fa let alone “terrifiy” their defence...

He got free kicks as they had to yank him / drag him down as they couldn't handle his height & strength .David should have dropped back to Duffy's role & Duffy should have gone off. David is much more technically skilled & can keep going full steam ahead for 90 minutes. Basically because he's a lot younger than Duffy. When Leon came on it was the only time their defence started giving away free kicks.

Can’t blame McGoldrick for the pen; was a very good save and to be fair it was a little bit of a soft decision. Thought McGoldrick’s link up play was proper beautiful and he’s a proper footballer and a great forward. He had a very good game. Saying that, he’s not a striker. We put in over 30 crosses. Granted, not all were good crosses, but there were plenty, especially in the first half, that were of the quality of the cross that led to Derby’s winning goal the other week. For me, McGoldrick isn’t the kind of player who gambles on crosses or busts a gut to get in front of his man. That’s fine; it’s not his game, but it’s what we needed today.

So, can understand why he came off. Wilder was probably hoping Leon would be more suitable for getting on the end of the balls from the wings. Sadly, after McGoldrick came off, we didn’t really get any reasonable balls in, and likely missed his link up play.

I stand to be corrected but wasn’t it Mitch Ward?
Paddy Kenny also saved a penalty at the sty in the infamous “Mike Dean derby” but the difference was it didn’t affect the result

Bobby Ford got one in the 1-1 draw in 2000-1.

Definitely Dane Whitehouse. Was an important goal as were 3-0 down at the time and fearing a repeat of the Boxing Day massacre.

Got to give them credit for keeping a clean sheet but it was like watching attack v defence. Watching on sky it was noticeable there were 8 9 and at times all 10 in their box. They had no ambition at all and you can count on one hand their forays forward..its amazing how we can play so well and not score when we can slap 4 past wigan who did come out a lot. It was a turned into a poor derby as they played wjth one thing in mind 0-0 Was the zenith of their ambition

What was strange was that Clarke got no service, can’t remember a cross for him to attack

Mate of mine is a Man U season ticket holder. Was really impressed with us but did say that sometimes we need to get it in the box earlier. I’ll take objective criticism from someone who has no axe to grind.

Exactly what I was saying about 10 minutes before he made the change.
