Clean sheets and losses

Been saying it since about this time last season.

Our consistent inability to keep a clean sheet is our major area for improvement not replacing Billy Sharp's ageing legs or an able replacement for Duffy...

Once again another game passes us by...

We concede because of the way we play. When you have wing backs and over lapping centre halves in the box you always run the risk of conceding. What we are missing is a bit of pace and final 3rd quality, at times we get caught out because we can't make our mind up in the final 3rd and get left out of position.

To be fair we conceded today simply because Freeman couldn't be arsed.

We don't concede that many when attacking though, it's when we try to defend that we concede
2-0 up against Preston, job done, let's have a rest, concede two
1-0 up against Millwall, job done, let's have a rest, concede two
Get level against Derby, job done, let's have a rest, concede another
1-0 up against Stoke, job done, let's have a rest, concede an equaliser

If we fancy keeping a clean sheet against Wednesday I suggest dropping Freeman. Especially as Reach and Joao are likely to occupy his side of the pitch.

It was pathetic from him, again. Any fucking amateur should've been able to show Carvalho down the line onto his weaker foot. He didn't even try to. It strikes me as sheer stupidity as well as laziness.

He can't complain if he misses out on the derby again.

He couldn't be arsed? So that's points at Deby and now Forest he's cost us. It's more like he isn't fit enough than can't be arsed so drop him for Baldock, I still can't work out why George isn't in favour. He's fitter, a better defender and can tackle.

Nail on head. And I for one am happy we play this way. Some need to get a grip, we’re up there.

The RWBs form will ebb and flow all season. Now looks like the time to get Baldock back in. Then no doubt Freeman will come back in to replace him at some point.

That's how we've got to manage them. Neither are good enough to play the full season.

Hopefully Stevens will be.

Probably right there.

The strange thing is, and I’ve been trying not to be seen as slating him, but in the last few games Freeman has looked not arsed. I love the guy and think he brings a lot to the table normally, but he seems out of sorts.

I’m sure it’s not the case that he just can’t be arsed, I doubt that very much, so I wonder if anyone else has thoughts on his form?

Freeman is flawed at this level, Baldock is fitter, faster so should play. Stevens is as good as any in the league but needs managing as he seems to drift.

When Freeman is in form, he’s far better going forward whether it’s better quality at putting balls in the box in dangerous areas or getting into scoring positions himself (although he seems to have lost this knack recently). But based on today and Derby, he needs a rest and Baldock will be back in on Friday.

Also, and i’m probably on the wrong thread, disappointed with Blades fans today. Great support until Forest scored and then non-existent - in the country from Toronto for a few days, couldn’t get a ticket in Blades end but managed to lie and cheat to get one in the home enclosure above (literally had to provide Canadian drivers licence to prove I wasn’t an “infiltrating away fan” and have my ticket for Friday courtesy of being a season ticket holder with a very expensive cost per game....) - even Hendo (who was still in Forest penalty area for corners when the final whistle went) was trying to get some more noise as players went over to fans at the end.

Despite today’s loss, we are experiencing something special here (without “top” players and despite the ownership bollocks) and we need full-on (as CW would say) vocal support away and in numbers (crowds are down over last year and we (were...) top FFS ) at home!

But we're not half bad.

If Wilder &Knlll did there jobs properly they will have made Freeman aware of the forest players strong points ,Wilder will have told Freeman the error of his ways in no uncertain terms.2nd away game in a row a basic error of judgment has cost us dear.Freeman is an experienced player and should know how to show a winger onto his wrong foot,he left the door open and the forest player went through it.

But Freeman is significantly better going forward, and actually provides a tangible goal threat due to his understanding with the strikers, Sharp especially. I think Chris missed having him in the team for that reason.
But I do agree that Baldock is better defensively and more solid. I love his passion as well.

Maybe now Wilder will have a re-think based on the goals we conceded v FLDC and Florest?

Our wing backs and overlapping cbs never got forward today. Indeed no midfielder got ahead of the strikers. It was a rigid and predictable showing against a very average Forest side there for the taking

Freeman has been crap last two away games. When forced to defend he shows he is not very good at it. Awful on the goal today but had been poor all day.

We always seem to concede and 5 losses already isn't for the top 2. Play offs and it's been a great season to be fair. On way back gutted!

Normally true but it’s turning into a weird season for many teams.
We’re one of about 8 teams that can win the league.

Wouldn't disagree, but I stand by my point was about his attacking qualities which are much better than Baldock's. Everyone was creaming over Freeman again after 10 games. Like I say, maybe a re-think is on the cards. Baldock might be a more robust option vs the Pigs.

That's nonsense, it doesn't matter how many games we have lost at this point of the season. It's relevant to the rest of the league and at this stage we have accumulated the second most points and won the joint most amount of games (a win is worth more then a deaw).

So if everyone carrys on the same we will be promoted.

Bit unfair - where he went wrong was he should have bust a gut to keep him out of the box and then being wise enough to drop him outside the box if needed. He should almost certainly have done better though.

Freeman at home, Baldock away might be a better shout. Or at least Baldock against the better sides away. You can't trust Freeman to be defensivly sound enough in tight games against good sides.

Yet we are top 2 currently because we win more than anyone else and rarely draw. We always play to win

Did we play to win yesterday? I didn't go, but my boy said the flat 5 midfield just didn't work.

What makes us different to me is when we play 3412 with "someone" in the hole we play better further up the field. Accepted Duffy is a master player of exploiting space between the lines, but this is what makes us a bit different.

The starting 11 seemed to me all about not losing - our starting 11 v Derby where we absolutely roasted them for 45 minutes was about winning on an away ground (Bristol C too).

is CW now approaching these away games against good teams in a slightly different way now Coutts is available?

I’d say first half we were trying to attack and create, but delivery from both freeman and Stevens was poor.

I thought that Cranie came in and looked quite comfortable at the back

The central midfield 3 of Coutts, Norwood and Fleck worked quite well and certainly didn’t perform badly, knocking the ball around and trying to bring in the wingbacks

The problem was that up front we weren’t able to link up play and defensively they were very solid. Dawson was class at the back and handled Clarke

Subs McG for Coutts and Woodburn for Cranie were attacking moves but sadly they didn’t work as the ball didn’t stick up front
