When we aren't playing at our max we are an average side

Says Wilder. Absolutely spot on. He and the players have done brilliantly to pick up the results they have in the past 2 seasons because it shows how often we are "at it". Once we drop off slightly we are no better than average and that's why we lose tight games like today.

He didn't sound happy and I think this January will be absolutely huge for him and us. If he doesn't get what he wants and needs I really think it could be the end in all honesty. He knows what we need to be serious challengers and how close we are but if he can't add the missing pieces then he will walk.

I find it hard to laugh at Wednesday at the moment because we could be in a very similar situation next season. The shit in the background is hanging over the club big time now and it's only the efforts of Wilder and the players that has kept it in the background. We are doing so well and are in a superb position to push on but as Wednesday are showing you can be so near then very quickly crumble. I just pray something is sorted.

Bang on Roy. If the owners conspire to lose this manager they will never be forgiven and rightly so.

're next Friday I booked a trip last April and am away. Obviously that was before last season ended so long before the fixtures were known.
Coincidentally I managed to do the same thing thing last September and missed the Bouncing Day massacre.
Be very happy to miss this one with a repeat or better score!!!

Do you think a team with a lower mid table budget should win every game ?

No, but the thread is entitled "Average side when not at our best" which Wilder himself has said and I agree with. Good teams have all aspects of their game sorted and they can change when it's not working.
Our game is all about gung ho and hope we get the goals to negate the goals we concede. That's great and it's exciting but if we don't get a couple of goals in front before the hour mark to make up for our errors later in games we aren't going to win, you can almost set your watch by it

Just about everything in your post is wrong
As ever

Bollox beat me to it agree 100% , every team is average unless there at the max

Our first choice 11 is excellent. Unfortunately we don't really have strength in depth of the quality required to sustain a table top challenge and we don't really have much impact on the bench.
As others have said January may be momentous for us. I wouldn't predict whether in a good or bad way.

We haven't been afforded the luxury of just playing a game out that we are in control of, no matter how well we've played if we take our foot off the gas for 20 seconds we're picking it out of the net
There will be times like today when it's just not working, and that's when you have to be disciplined enough to get something from the game, the inability to keep a clean sheet against ANYONE is what will cost us

Agree totally been watching stoke v Boro not a great game but if we are top six come January, and spend wisely and on proven quality players we could really do some damage in a pretty average league

I'm starting to realise that I am only encouraging your wild exaggerations and negative slant on everything

We’re a couple of players short of a good squad and January is vitally important for us! I can’t even start to imagine my beloved blades without wilder at the helm. The prince and McCabe need to give wilder some money to spend in January or the unthinkable could happen!!!.
We’re on the cusp of something magical with wilder in charge!!.
I just want our owners to sort this shit out but doesn’t look as though that’s gonna happen anytime soon?.
Onwards and upwards to the pig roast on Friday night. UTB

McCabe could sort out the mess over night, yes he’d take a bit of a hit but he’s meant to be a Blade, he’s not doing the best for the club at the moment.

How would he do that?

You can read things however you want on an internet forum
I haven't said anything negative, just the truth that if we aren't out of sight by the hour mark by at least two clear goals we'll struggle to get a result

Play your best side then Wilder. Stearman sits out for Cranie????????????????????????

Coutts starts instead of McGoldrick??????????????????????????????????????????

Dont get those 2 selections, Norwood and Coutts cancel each other out, they are from the same pod so one or another please. McGoldrick (unless injured) should have never been dropped today. Cranie instead of Stearman is baffling

Can’t help but feel we are blowing something big for this club.

We should ride the wave and establish ourself in the top tier, an era we can all look back on with joy.

Instead we look like blowing it because we have two ( yes both of them) useless owners who don’t know when to call it quits.

Only way to call it quits is to find another buyer.

Agree with the rest of it though.

If I has some cash in that thurr windur I'd buy myself a brand new combine arvester so I could do a proper job on my corn, but then I'd definitely av one of those Duffy types through the door, ooh arrr

There ain't be no cash, but I got a cow I got :)

Agree with most of your post Roy but I think you misjudge Wilder,he wants to take us up but as long as he gets enough funds to carry on building the club I think he will stay. It will become harder to bring in better players unless he does get a bigger budget..I don't beleave he's desperate to do it now ,if the.club stagnates as you suggest that's always a possibility but he's no quiter.
Can't see us paying big fees for players ,loans is the way we will go still expensive but can be released if promotion Doasnt happen.
Come a long way in a short space of time with good number of the squad in the veteran stage of there careers ,something that will have to be addressed sooner than later.
The ownership issue has to be settled in May I hope McCabe prevails but if it's the Prince he will have to bring some money to the table or I can see shoes off in the car park wanting him out rather than wanting the manager s head. One thing for sure while Wilders here he will call it as it is no hiding place for owners

Serious question. What ' good team ' have you ever heard of that wins every game they play ?

The answer ? No one ever in the whole wide world and the history of the game .

So why the fuck are you demanding that from us ?

when we aren't playing to our max we are average? i think that applies to most teams

Bollox beat me to it agree 100% , every team is average unless there at the max

I think he tried to compare Stoke City's performance against us and ours today. We play to an average level and leave with nothing. Stoke played average at the Lane and left with a point.

Similarly last season, we were far better than Cardiff and Villa at the Lane. We ended up drawing one and losing the other. They finished up in the top six. We finished 'mid table'.

We don't seem capable of grinding out a result. Not sure if this is a mind set with these particular players that could be overcome or if they are just not capable.

If it's the latter then funds are necessary in January.

Forgive me for not reading the rest of the replies to this but I’m replying to the OP and I fundamentally agree. We’re bang average if we don’t play to our strengths but that’s understandable.

I really rate Wilder (obviously) but he needs to be backed to make us a real force.

When I saw there was no Duffy in the squad yesterday I knew it’d be a struggle. It’s fairly clear that if we only make 1 signing it has to be another attacking midfielder. Put all the resource into that and stick with the rest as it is. It might just be enough to see us in the play offs. We aren’t going to sign 3 quality Championship players at the top of the pitch, but we need one to replace Duffy.

No comment on Cranie, but Coutts for McG looked an obvious choice to me. Wigan ran through our midfield repeatedly last week. Going away to a team of higher quality we needed to be tighter.

It’s a change I’d have made at half time last week.
