Not sure why anyone is surprised about Waghorn....hardly a Championship goal machine.....228 Championship appearances....49 goals, one in every 4.65 games. McGoldrick has a similar record.....307 Championship appearances, (not bad for someone who is always injured!!)....69 goals, one in every 4.44 games, however, one cost £10m the other was free....

Billy is far superior at this level 303 appearances and 99 goals (up to end of last season) one in every 3.06 games

Funny isn't it how we all knew our biggest need was a striker yet the freebie we got and the fat lad are at the top end of the goal scoring chart !

Waghorn isnt wjat we need. What we really need is a striker.who can run at defences, go past players and create his own chances. But they are few and far between and cost a fortune. Dwight Gayle is a great example of that kind of player. Hopefully our scouting team are busy uncovering a lower league gem in this mould.

Indeed it is a lot of cash, but Fulham pushed the boat out last January for Mitrovic and he made a difference.

We are not in that league of signings - just depends whether the club will decide to gamble a bit. A big promotion bonus could be the way - we've been very creative with the signing fee for Egan, so we just have to try and work something out.

Fulham pushed the boat out with a loan signing.that's probably what we will do.can't pay premiership wages. on a championship budget. United NEED a quality centre forward in the JTW - it was plainly obvious in the games v Bristol City and Derby County away from home.

We dominated 1st half possession in both games and should have gone in at half time winning both. We didn't and consequently got done by sucker punches.

We DON'T need squad players and last seasons JTW turned out to be a waste of time in the end.

Ideally, 2 players to strengthen the team and go straight into it - 1 needs to be a goal scoring centre forward so that we WIN games when on top.

We could have beaten Derby but more importantly, we shouldn't have lost.

If Blades are honest with themselves, we could have lost to Wigan in different circumstances, but ground it out as Billy eluded to.

Although with a wealthy chairman like Khan they may have been able to absorb it.

I can't think of many clubs who would go after a player they failed to sign and has scored less than our current front 2. Don't we want to upgrade?

I'm normally serious, but had a hangover from hell, so was in a playful mood. Made 5/6 wind up posts, mostly about needing Tomorrows Man in charge :-D

Indeed - Khan had the cash and it wasn't really a gamble - in effect "his" gamble paid off, but he could afford to lose it. It would hurt MCCabe/Princey financial if it failed and I wounder if the gamble is worth taking to them both.

If we can get clear(ish), and lets be fair to the division and other teams, with lets say 3 other teams, then they may think it's a gamble worth taking. McCabe has been here before (fortunately) with Warnock, where I am led to believe our wage bill the year we went up was quite significant.

Like most clubs, I expect us to be losing money, within sensible and a controlled way - the big question is which player? It may well follow that Mitrovic might be available if Fulham go big in the JTW. Think our forum will be in melt down from December onwards with all the speculation as to who!

I was so completely underwhelmed bordering on angry that we’d “only signed McGoldrick”. I’d never seen him play, but it was pretty disappointing when £8m is being bandied about for Waghorn then we take someone who needs a trial first.

He’s been one of our best players almost every time I’ve watched us. He’s just very, very clever and even though he’s not fast he makes space, turns people and gets the ball where it needs to be. Shows what I know.

Also, If I was a top championship defender I’d get well pissed off playing against him.
