Wilder requests backing in January transfer window

Puts the bargain into context though when you’re including the full cost. £1 million becomes £2-3 rather quickly.

Yes, and no foundations built or saleable assets. A gamble. The only signing Wilder's made in his whole tenure that makes little sense to me is Holmes. Ageing player, with little resale value brought in for a decent fee (by our standards).. All the others brought in for decent money have been young with the potential to be moved on for better money. That's who we are under this ownership.

This article suggests that was the figure in wages for the rest of the season. Could be even less than I thought, the figure is in euros.

Edit: Add on nopigfansintown's loan fee and you're looking at around £1.5m. (The return was £170m).
Seems like you are finding the articles to suit your argument and taking the lowest you can find.
I’d suggest that as you’ve already changed your view of the cost we don’t actually know. It could be £3 million it could be £1.5.
Also if you’re claiming the return you also need to list all those time clubs gambled on promotion and lost.
I really do dislike when Wilders does this, it’s just throwing catnip down to those who don’t read the accounts and continually expect the board to gamble massively with their money causing friction with the fans.
I just wish these fans had the money themselves although I’d wager they wouldn’t be quite so willing to risk £10-20 million on top of the losses they were already supporting.

Whats with the meltdown. I was merely pointing out that Fulham got a bargain with Mitrovic and got promoted spending less money than us in the JTW.

Hardly a meltdown I just said you were playing with figures and articles with no likelihood of accuracy to suit your arguement.
If you’re happy to use such articles to set your viewpoint then it’s clearly pretty weak and there’s no point discussing it further with you.
You have your biased opinion and it’s clearly based on flimsy evidence but you’re entrenched in it.
This is why I don’t like Wilder stiring this up, especially when we’re top of the league and massively outperforming, it just causes unnecessary friction.

Fucking hell you've got it bad. I'll give discussing things with you a miss in future, I don't want anything to do with sending you over the edge.

Sounds like he’s covering all bases in those quotes

Can’t compete at the top end = message to fans: don’t get your hopes too high

If I’m allowed to = being respectful to the owners

As I said in my first post. There’s nothing new or sensational or political in this article. Just a standard, average, dull pre transfer window interview with the manager

Of course it’s all about interpretation. But we all know that wilder doesn’t do political. Except when he wanted a new contract in the summer and he threw the toys out of the pram

Wilder used the media when he was at Northampton to inform the fans what was going on behind the scenes.
It prompted their Chairman to finally "do a deal" and sell the club for the benefit of everyone.

He did the same at United in May when it looked like there would be no funding available due to the warring Chairmen.
He just wanted and needed to know what's going on, so that he could make plans.

It's fairly obvious that he's in a similar position now with another window approaching and he doesn't know if he'll be allowed to sign anyone or not.

I was being facetious.Should've put a smiley face or something.I do think trading players for a profit helps with winning football matches - if you do it right. That's been Wilder's MO since he got the job. The free maket and football fans are seldom bedmates.SUFC would've gone bust a long time ago if that was the case. Man City's an hour away, with comporable prices
With the money that PL clubs get from football tv deals, why do they have to charge admission prices at all?

Assombalonga is way overrated. Would hate to see us waste the readies on him.
Yes but he seems to have that little bit of a nasty Streak that may upset defenders towards the end of the season when we need to get at sides who will park the bus against us for survival and also what's the word :rolleyes: oh pace :D:D

Don't know how this thread has got so long, a bunch of run-of-the-mill statements with a 'sensational' headline.
I'd wager if you asked everybody who posts on here to guess what he said 90% of us would have got all subjects and a few might have even got it word for word.
Nothing to see here.

For me, the significance is that CW took this to the media. He has always tried to be straight-talking and transparent and this typifies his character. It does also gives both partners a gentle public nudge to resolve their situation.

I hope both partners see it as the concerns of a 'proper manager' striving to achieve success for the club.

I don't think Wilder fucked up at all last January window.

He probably had better players identified and targeted but the ownership refused to sanction the spend.

Hence, we got players that in the end wouldn't give us what we required.
He wanted Holmes and Leonard, no question.

I don't think that would be the case either, I suspect it was, 'hi Chris got a few words for Sky? Top of the league what are you hoping to achieve in the JTW to keep you there?'
Whatever is now said will be fashioned into whatever the journo's want.

CW is no fool. Most of what he does is done for a reason.

Even Jesus ran out of miracles, back him to the hilt. I can't think of anyone I would trust more than Chris Wilder with a £20m war chest. He is the best manager in England and how the fuck we still have him is beyond me.
