Our play last season in and around the oppositions 18 yard box was IMHO generally poor.
Our overall possession stats in a game were good - but the ones who talked about sideways and backwards passing between our defence and midfield were justified.
We've upped our game in the final third this season, with the midfield we've got - none more so than Freeman and Stevens. As discussed before Stevens crossing has improved immeasurably this season and Freeman's ability to find space in the box is just outrageous at times.
I am now going to take the piss out of a numpty that sits behind me in South Stand - you may recall Stevens popping of on Freeman's side during the first half that result in him having a weak shot, saved easily by the Hull GK - the numpty behind said "what the fuck is Stevens doing there?" - what he was doing there is the result of how we are playing now and why we are near the top of the stats quoted above. Our wing backs have license to get forward and "confuse" the opposition defence with extra bodies - we work overloads all over the place - and it's bloody refreshing to see. We push on all over the place. The midfield is very fluid in their movement - we are quite simply, working the football in and around the areas that can cause damage.
Long may it continue.
