Just spoke to someone who works in the Railway on Bramall Lane and they are open as normal.

Not sure but Barry's got a new flyer on his new fence proclaiming amongst other things that his pub is 'not the cheapest, but the best'.
I can certainly vouch for one of those two statements. In fairness, it is perfectly decent for a beer or 2 with the lads as long as he actually has some staff on.

I'll be heading to the Scholar (R&R) before the game on Friday, then on to the Sportsman. Speaking of which, you need a pass to get in the Sportsman on friday. Before the West Brom game i went and was given a card that apparently allows you in the pub (along with 2 others).
I can't see how this will work though. A) the card passes aren't the most elaborate of designs so could be easily copied so more people can go in, B) You could just pass your card back over the fence in the beer garden, C) I can't see the people on the door stopping a gang of burly men entering.

Couldn't help but think about Barry's whilst watching 'Masterchef: The Professionals' last night. 4 chefs failed to properly spatchcock a poussin in 5 minutes, the fella who does Barry's bbq does it with his machete in 0.5 seconds

Golden Lion for me too. Always drink there and they have never not been open on derby day as far as I can remember. I even go there before the game at the pig sty.

I'm hoping to be at The Golden Lion for about 5:30.
It's gonna be packed so a nice early start is in order I think! :thumbup:
The last time i walked past (before the WBA game) it was still closed.

Usually in for 6 on a night match so suppose it's early for me.
Got my nephew with me as well so cant get too bladered. Saying that, a good win for the Blades and that'll go out of the window cos i'll get hammered celebratin after and i'll get his nan to come and pick him up
The cards are to assist the door staff with people who don't have that familiar face! If you can prove your a Blade, i.e. show your season ticket or match ticket for the Blades areas then you don't have a problem. Or if your one of the usual cuties of course!

Anyway, it will all depend on what time the Oracle gets back from work for me.

Same here, never been asked for a card in the Sportsman. I don't go in there every match but certainly often enough to be recognised.
I've been turned away from the Railway on the few occasions I've tried to get in for the past few years (I used to usually end up in there before that). I can understand them using a card scheme to limit numbers for games like this Friday, but we were turned away most recently against Port Vale when the pub was (at least) half empty. We were wearing united shirts, had kids with us with united shirts on and had season tickets in our pockets. It was a little surreal to be told we had to prove we were home fans/not looking for trouble, by carrying a little piece of card.
Someone told me you only have to turn up for a drink on any day that isn't a match day and they'll freely give you one. How's that prove I'm a home supporter?
It doesn't bother me, there's plenty of other places to drink, but the policy seems a little bit over the top.
