Some of us of a certain age will have fond memories of Bill Dearden. Bought from Chester for £10,000 most of his goals came in the top flight. He scored 61 in 175 appearances for the Blades.
Now we have Billy Sharp who - in his latest stint with us - has scored 69 in 133 appearances (and over 200 in his professional career).

As ever, we're gonna miss him when he's gone.

Always maintained Sharp IS limited, and would never have cut it in the PL.

However, at Championship level or below, played in a team that supports the obvious attributes he does possess, rather than those he does not, he is mustard,

We ARE lucky to have him,

Pound for pound, taking account of year by year player “inflation” as determined by market forces, as good a buy as the club has ever made.

I loved watching Bill Dearden play. He wasn’t the same as Billy in the box though. Billy is a out and out goal scorer and good at it to boot.

plenty of people maintained he wasn’t good enough for the championship tbf..

Billy Sharp is now 2nd in the list when it comes to English league goals since the turn of the century.

He today moved past Wayne Rooney. Only Rickie Lambert has more.

Sharp isn’t Rooney or Lambert, but it highlights how much of a threat he is at whatever level he’s played at.
