Who would you go with at left back now we've signed Stewart? For me Taylor has been improving with just about every game, though I know a lot of people still see him as a weak link. He's still young and can only get better. Admittedly I don't know much about Stewart, but I'd rather stick with Taylor; having a settled back 4 could be vital this season.

I'd agree with that. Taylor looked fairly shakey at first (but it was one hell of an introduction considering he had Yeates/Johnson to deal with). But he's improved by the match - although he needs to cut out the silly mistakes he makes from time to time. Naysmith needs to spend some time with him to work on his positioning and keeping it simple.

That said, I'm happy with Stewart as backup and he'll be useful on the bench to cover for a couple of positions.

Neither if I really had to choose.

Rather have an injured Naysmith there.

Although as we cant have a cripple play so Id say Stewart deserves a bash since he is new.

Taylor, with Stewart as backup. And I'm sure that'll be the case once Naysmith recovers and buggers off.

How does a new player deserve a go when the player in that position hasn't done anything wrong - i thought attacking wise against Reading Taylor did excellent and he seems steady defensive.

Stick with him!

I think Taylor is potentially a better player than Naysmith. Nothing against Naysmith, but he's more solid and steady than exciting. This is a good thing, but I think Taylor will only get better as he gets older, and can already do more with the ball than your man Gary.

Id say Naysmith has a tad more pace and is more experienced.

When really you would assume Taylor being younger would have more pace but I think even Morgan has more pace than Taylor.

I believe Stewart was a pawn to get rid of Hendrie and so doesn't deserve a place into either he's earnt it or Taylor gets injured or is dropped (i.e. he doesn't perform at the required standard).

Anything else shows that having the shirt doesn't mean anything.

I'm liking what I've seen of Taylor so far to be honest, seems solid enough. Doesn't make many mistakes and is comfortable with the ball. I'm not sure Stewart deserves to just walk into the team either. And when he does play I think he may be better served as (another) winger.

I appreciate that a senior squad member has a role to play in helping younger players, but surely this is why we employ coaches? The coachign staff should be doing that!

Maybe so, but there's nothing to stop Gary doing the same... especially since he's a left footed left back!

taylor's not really done much wrong aside from a couple of silly moments. Remembering that this is a new team to him and a level above what he's used to I think he's settled in as well as can be expected. Stick with him unless he does anything to prove otherwise I say.

As you say it's important where possible to keep a settled back 4 and defensively I think we're as good as anyone in this league.

Apart from fannying about trying to be clever and nearly losing the ball.

In all fairness, that doesn't happen with worrying regularity.

For some reason I thought this was going to be a reminisence thread.

Now let me see. Gareth Tyaloy or Graheme Stuart hmmmmmmmmm

He did this once.

Come on then, what has Andy Taylor done to you? He seems to be Monty to your Pinchy.

Taylor doesn't look like the stereotypical footballer. He looks like a nice lad who seems a bit nervous and is about to start an NVQ in woodwork technology!

Having said all that, I have no real qualms about him, he hasn't set the league on fire but hasn't done much wrong. Steady eddy so far.

I'd love Naysmith back but history shows after a long term injury some players are never the same and if we're continuing on our restructuring of the wage bill I imagine he'll be the next one they try and get off.

I don't rate Taylor at all and don't think he's good enough for this level. He wasn't getting in Tranmere's team, which I appreciate doesn't affect how he performs for us, but I just don't think he's up to it either technically or positionally. He's not the sort of player we should be signing when allegedly pushing for promotion.

Having never seen Stewart play, or not having noticed him if I have, I'd struggle to make a choice between the two but thought I'd add my two penneth re. Taylor.

As for this being a Gareth Taylor vs Graham Stuart thread, Gareth Taylor was like Henderson who can't actually challenge for the ball because he's too busy looking at his marker with his elbows waving about and Stuart was technically decent but a bit soft, similar to Brian Howard.

I believe in not changing the back 4 but something tells me Blackwell doesn't fancy taylor and is why stewart was brought in hope not the lad has done ok he took a bit of a kicking against WBA and still carried on getting stuck in.

doesnt make mistakes? what, like when he got caught in possession in his own penalty area and tripped over the ball? he's been reasonably steady but lets not fool ourselves he's anything like as good as naysmith, nor should we be talking-up the prospect of naysmith 'getting fit and buggering off' either.
