Today marks exactly 70 years since my dad took me - as an 8-year-old - to Bramall Lane to see Jimmy Hagan & co. for the first time.

From that day I was hooked, and relegation at the end of that 1948/49 season did nothing to dampen my ardour.

It's been a roller-coaster ride, but one with so many good memories - and many more to come, I hope!

70 Years incredible, I first saw the Blades around 45 years ago but sometimes it feels like 70, in fact the Adkins season alone felt like that!!

Congratulations! I'm gussing a rack would have been less painful, and over quicker. Favourite players? Favourite games? UTB!

Can you remember how Bash played that day ?

UTB, many more to come hopefully :)

Well done. 70 years and never seen a semi final win, top 4 finish in the top division, no European games and very little big time funding. I guess that's why we love Dem Blades.

Can't believe you've forgotten the Anglo-Italian Cup :D

Many congratulations. I look forward to hearing some of your memories - I think those of us of a certain age ought to flood the forum during international breaks with a load more nostalgia, to keep us away from the drivel on here when there are no United matches. Have you found a good way of celebrating the occasion? I am looking for ideas, as I'm 5 years behind you. Mind you, I might have the option of watching United in a Champions League final.;) Keep posting.

If those things are actually more important than our beloved Blades, you're probably supporting the wrong team :)

Not that I'd mind seeing ANY of those things of course

Agree, I’ve also been watching United just under 45 years.

The final game of the Adkins season at home to Scunthorpe is probably the lowest I’ve ever felt.
It suddenly sank in that we could be playing in league 1 another 10 to 20 years becoming another Notts County or Bradford City.
Also I found Adkins delusional positivity after every defeat so annoying.

Big respect.

What's been your favourite and least favourite season? Best XI?

Well done, I hope you have many more in front of you. I’ll reach fifty years of of suffering next April. My first match was against Hull City on Easter Tuesday night, we drew 1 - 1 with Reece scoring for us. I was completely hooked and got a season ticket the next season.

Out of interest were you one of the many that did both The Lane and S6, alternate weeks, obviously preferring United ?

Commiserations mate :)

No, I only went to see Wednesday once, to please my best mate who was an owls fan. Somehow it didn't feel right, though I saw Derek Dooley score a hat-trick. Later I persuaded my mate to come to Bramall Lane with me for the Sheffield Derby. That was the year we beat them 7 - 3. I don't think my pal ever fully recovered from the trauma.

Wow - that's hugely impressive... much respect! You must be made of stern stuff indeed. I've been an armchair fan tbh since the late 70s & that's nearly done for me!

If you can, get down to the Lane while things are good. The first 60 minutes against Villa were enough to make up for many years of suffering!
