Last night’s referee

Defender pulled Fleck back in first half and didn't give an advantage

When play went out he was looking around as the fans wanted him to speak with the player but seemed to forget who it was

Best refereeing performance we’ll see all season. Firm, fair, tried to keep the game flowing, no decisions I could honestly disagree with AND a properly contested drop ball.

Turns out it isn’t that difficult. Why they hire a roster of incompetent clowns and cheats remains a mystery.
His card record is pretty good ,17 in 6 games I think but 7 of those in the first game. Best for a while but he bounced the ball too hard for the dropball ;)

Absolutely spot on and it's what I said to the folks alongside me during the game last night. I thought he was excellent. He played advantage rather than blowing up for fouls all the time, he didn't miss a thing all night, and that's the first time I've seen a "drop ball" situation, contested in the way it is supposed to be, in the last 10 years or more! I hate all this, ..."look, I'll drop it here, you just kick it back there" arrangement. No. That's not how drop balls are supposed to be done (young 'uns might not know this?). It's supposed to be two players on their toes, trying to kick it before the other one does. And that's what we got last night.

Comes to summat though when the highlight of the game was the referee's performance eh?

If I’m thinking of the same incident he signalled a clear advantage and I saw him have a quick word with the culprit when the ball went out.

I never saw his arms go up in the air and he just looked around and then allowed us to take the throw. Ball went out in the South Stand

To be fair, one of our players went straight through one of theirs towards end and he didn’t book him

Brum fans were funny when MoM contenders were announced. They'd been giving the lino on John Street side stick first half. Then second half a lot of decisions went their way. So their shout of lino for MoM made me smile.

Agree completely with the OP , a referee who did his job very well and with minimal fuss or getting the attention on him !! Sadly a very rare breed !

Agree, he should have got the man of the match award!

Speaking of which, is anyone else as irritated as me about the whole ' man of the match ' thing as I am?

If anyone scores, no matter what the rest of their contribution was like they're a contender.

Last night I thought the two keepers had excellent games, especially their man, the chuff!

Not bad but Naive with regard to time wasting again. Take the incident with the drink break. Now come on, tell me that type of thing does not frustrate you. Some of you even accept it as part of the game and nothing should be done about it.
Me, never. We pay to watch players play football not to time waste.

I thought he was man of the match last night - sadly!

It was a shocking tackle from Baldock? coming across aswell, how that went unpunished I’ll never know.

Overall though, the Ref had a good game.

Yes that’s the one. Amazed he didn’t get a yellow

Complete cunt, he missed several clear penalties for us and kept waving play on every time after their players avoided JOC's attempts to put them in the stand. Did he forget his whistle?

Refs should look good when there’s little for them to do. It’s a bit like giving our centre half man of the match after we beat a non league side at home.

He could've booked a couple of theirs for persistent fouling first half . He then could've evened it up second half when we were stopping counter attacks by dragging people down. The Baldock one looked a nailed on yellow. He was consistent and unfussy so no complaits from me. That's all you can ask.
