11th is not a Thursday in November, 11th October is the date you’re looking at....agree though, get behind the young lions and especially Deano

Part of the family already, if we go up we could probably keep him. We'd love that, He's love that. Love how he runs the full pitch to join in with the goal celebrations.

I left the Prozac stadium yesterday after witnessing the worst game of football I think I’ve ever seen, thinking, I may never come here again. You might have just changed my mind.

Reading between the lines in the last interview I heard with him, I think he would possibly sign with us if we went up.

Proper goalie this lad - best we've had since Paddy and far better than both Moore and Blackman , both of whom have obvious weaknesses.

If we do get promoted , it would make perfect sense for both him and us to make it a permanent signing and we should move heaven and earth to make that happen.

Even if he became Manure's no. 1 he would always have the spectre hanging over him of them going out and splashing 70 mill or so on the next big thing from Spain / Germany etc . and being demoted to the bench, whereas here he could become an absolute legend and you can't put a price on that .

Stick with us Deano and I'm sure you'll be reight ' appeh !

Really really like him. Comes across well, confident but not in a cocky way and is very assured on the pitch. He also seems to have genuinely taken to his surroundings and connected with the fanbase very quickly. He will have a few howlers here and there [most young keepers do] but he has already saved us points and should only get stronger and gain even more confidence over the season.

That being said, let's not get too ahead of ourselves regarding a potential permanent move. He has already said that he sees his future back at Manure, and whilst I agree that he is always going to struggle to establish himself there, I think we should just enjoy this season with him and not expect anything else. That way it's a bonus if we do somehow manage to keep him.

I think the likelihood of him becoming Man United's number 1 is quite low, especially with Real signing Courtois. They won't want De Gea anymore.

Dean is not going to usurp De Gea for that spot, sorry, not gonna happen. But he could be woo'd be a season on their bench, I think he's already better than their second string in Romero and fucking Lee Grant. That said he doesn't strike me as a kid who'd even be happy on Man United's bench... so lets wait and see. I suspect we might see him inbetween our sticks again next season...

He’s pretty much said he wouldn’t want to be a bench warmer even at OT. He wants to play and wants to be first choice hence all his loans.

I’m always amused by how Kenny is so grossly overrated. ‘Best since Kenny’ is no indicator of quality for me. He was a clown and a bomb scare.

Go on then, I'll indulge you this morning.

It's not that the 'Kenny bar' was set particulalry high, more that we have had some real dross since then.

Kenny was a decent shot stopper and a 'character' but was nowhere the quality of Kelly, Rees or Tracey. That said he looked like Gordon Banks in comparison to Howard (post back injury), Simonsen, Bunn, Bennett, Wright etc.

Since Kenny left in 2010:

2010/11
Steve Simonsen (43+2 apps) - decent but not at the level he'd shown the previous season on loan
Richard Wright (2 apps) - bang average; the fact that he'd rather pick up a wage as Man City's third choice keeper than play for the last few years of his career tells you all you need to know about his approach
George Long (1 app) - n/a. Given his debut in one of the youngest ever United sides in the last game of the season (0-4 at Swansea)

2011/12
Steve Simonsen (44 apps) - average but deteriorating, culminating in that penalty
George Long (2 apps) - one decent appearance, one nightmare

2012/13
George Long (35+1 apps) - generally good. Came in for the injured Howard at Orient and had a blinder there, carried on from there and the fit-again Howard was left on the bench
Mark Howard (11 apps) - average League One keeper. Confidence > ability

2013/14
George Long (27 apps) - average League One standard keeper
Mark Howard (19 apps) - average League One keeper whose back started to impact his mobility

2014/15
Mark Howard (35 apps) - average League One keeper
Iain Turner (11 apps) - bizarrely signed and played ahead of Long as Clough started to lose the plot

2015/16
George Long (31 apps) - confidence started to go as he became a focus for the dissatisfaction with Adkins' reign
Mark Howard (15 apps) - worse than Long, which is all that needs to be said

2016/17
Simon Moore (43 apps) - good League One keeper whose decisiveness and confidence transformed our defence. Question marks remain over long range shot stopping
George Long (3 apps) - poor. Confidence completely shot by this stage

2017/18
Jamal Blackman (31 apps) - first decent Championship-standard keeper we've had in a long while. Ability with crosses was a highlight, getting down to low shots was a weakness
Simon Moore (15+3 apps) - adequate keeper. Question marks remain over long range shot stopping

2018/19 to date
Dean Henderson (6 apps) - first keeper I can recall who should make it as a top-half Premier League keeper

So since Kenny left in the summer of 2010 we've not really had any keepers as good as him with the exception of the two loanees, Blackman and Henderson. Some will argue that Moore should join that group but I'm not convinced.

Yes. We’re pretty much ad idem aren’t we? It’s just that ‘best since X’ usually imports, whether expressed or not, that X is a bit special. The last keeper worth that accolade was, in my view, Kelly.

I’m now wondering who is our best midfielder since Michael Doyle...

Well put .

I didn't intend to imply that I thought Paddy was a great keeper ( although I accept it could be interpreted that way ) but in my view and that of many others , he was a perfectly adequate and consistent one capable of pulling off great saves on his day , which is something we've lacked since his departure.

People might have different views about Paddy , but I happen to think he was an outstanding keeper for us , and loosing him when we did was definitely the catalyst to us plunging into the third division for 6 years.

Agreed.

His decision making was a bit questionable I'll give you that. But as a shot stopper he's one of the best we've had for a long time. I've only seen Kelly in my life time that's better. We got promoted with him and had one of our most successful periods in recent history. Sadly many now seem to hold some contempt towards that period, slagging Warnock off at any opportunity and refusing to credit that we actually had some decent players back then.

Or, if he suddenly goes to shit, he's named after: Dean Hammond and Darius Henderson (sorry if I've put anyone off their Saturday morning Cornflakes).

Wtf has Darius Hammond got to do with him!

P.S. There's got to be someone in the universe called this, surely.
