A friend of mine is absolutely gutted about the Leigh Bromby sale. He's practically inconsolable.

This got me thinking to the player sale that most upset me. I'd probably go for Deane the first time. I was still young and naive enough to think the players loved the club as much as me and him leaving near broke my heart, just like Bromby going has done to my friend.

Which player sale upset you the most?

Paul Judass Devlin upset me immensly at the time

it was the day we sold Deane and fjortoft on the same day i thought the world was going to end. Beattie is a close second though.

ditto - stuart and holdsworth was another bad one....

lucky person your mate if the sale of bromby is the most heart-breaking sale he can come up with :-)

jags was a bad day for me even though i knew he was goin, but the worst has definatly got to be deane and fjortoft on the same day to leeds and barnsley that was just beyond evil.

Deane and Fjortoft was a sickener too. The ones since have been a shame but haven't bothered me as much - just like the play off defeats the more it happens the less it hurts I suppose!

Mick Jones to Leeds. Still the best CF I've seen at the Lane, but Deano's a very close second!

Having not understood the concept of supporting the Blades will around 2001 i'd have to say Michael Brown leaving on Christmas day (well i found out on christmas! on the owd ceefax)

Ditto Naughton and Walker going

and not forgetting Currie buggering off to Weeds. As a 9 year old I was inconsoleable. Then there was Woody, and then Sabella, Edwards etc.....who strangely enough all went the same way.

Deano to Leeds and then the day Deane and Fjortoft went, and the day we found out that Dane Whitehouse was retiring due to injury.

never really got too upset about players leaving but (i know its not quite the same thing) the day mel rees died was my worst as a blade i was round at my mates and we both sobbed uncontrollably

we were both under the impression he was making a good recovery from the cancer that ended his young life
still think he was the best keeper ive ever seen

This transfer window Id say it was the 2 Kyle's. Didnt really need to sell but we did.

Although prior to that Id say Beattie because it still has me annoyed and asking why.

TC going to Leeds was hard to take. In more recent years Michael Brown, followed by Jags.

As one of the older members of this board I have suffered from seeing many of my favourite players leave the Club.
As a young lad Colin Grainger and Jim Iley were two players I hated losing very much but their departures were eclipsed later when we sold Mick Jones a big favourite of mine together with Alan Birchenall but even that disappointment was surpassed whenTony Currie was sold to Leeds as well

has to be in this transfer window. carney to fc twente and howard to reading! scanderlous :tumbleweed:

Then to top it all, Birchenall went to Chelsea pretty soon afterwards. Those two accounted for nearly half our league goals in the previous season, so I suppose a relegation fight was pretty inevitable (as it was when Deane went).

nothing will ever come close to Tony Currie leaving BDTBL.

Possibly, but it was pretty inevitable after being relegated. Whereas the sales of Jones & Birchenall, and Deane and Fjortoft were much more unexpected.

Agree with Deane and Fjortoft on the same day..i was only a wee bairn at the time and was absolutely gutted..these days it would be the equivalent of man u selling ronaldo and rooney on the same day with no replacements!

Mick Jones was sold so United cud pay the leccy bill.

oh John Harris ............he'll be turning in his grave watchin 'cheap as chips'.

not very

Agree with that. Was gutted remember sitting in the Kop the following home game against Wolves and was still gutted. Think we won that game 1-0.

Also was pretty gutted when Vas Borbokis left.

Deane and Jan Aga.

Beattie.

Walker.

(The comma button has broke on my laptop)

As a 14 year old kid back then, no question it was Deano leaving for Leeds. I've been annoyed by more recent sales but never upset like I was back then.

I was quite upset when Glenn Cockerill left. Can't remember who he joined but was quite put out in a petulant schoolboy sort of way that whatever club he did join simply didn't measure up to the Blades in any way shape or form on the massiveness scale & couldn't get my head round why he had left.

Same with Tony Agana when he joined Notts County.

Cockerill went to Southampton.

For me it was the sale of TC, even though it was expected. I always had a soft spot for Tom McAllister and although the broken leg meant he was never quite the same, I was still upset that he left!

Deane and Fjortoft for me.

Jags, Naughton etc. were bad, but expected. Deane and Fjortoft leaving was one of my worst days as a United fan, and I was about 9!
