said last week I expected new arrivals to be mostly loans, looks like that will be the case because with the outgoings we are far too small

Need a striker, maybe 2. Especially as our only three are all starting at present.

Also still need a CB backup. I know Walker can play there, but i'd rather have someone specialist in as backup, even someone like we had Ehiogu last season.

Other than those two areas, the incoming of Harper for Howard is a masterstroke.

One other thought, i'm wondering if now we only have three up top, whether Kyel Reid maybe used to cover that area now, with Treacy in fine form, and Stewart coming in who can play there, he may be moved to striker cover

I'm not sure its going to be easy to get decent players in on loan. If you look at our first 11 its pretty settled so unless we are going to bring a player in who is clearly better than what we've got why is a Premiership bench player going to want to become a Championship bench player?

We are n't that short up front as we have Cotts and Reid who can play up top!

KB can always revert to 4-5-1 if needs be (suspension and injury)

However we are light at the back so another CB would be a good move although I think Speed could cover that area for us if we did become desperate.:hello:

Liking the look of that academy lad from Villa who played for them against Fulham on Sunday. He won't get a game for them now they have signed Dunne and collins....weth a punt??

I wouldn't be at all confident with either Reid or Cotterill as out-and-out strikers.

not keen on 'loan signings' unless a right to buy clause is agreed.

We've got to remember too that you can only start four loanees and have one additional one on the bench, who must replace a loanee if he comes on.

I would expect Walker, Treacy, Harper and Bunn to all be first teamers so we have little room for anyone else to come in on loan. Hopefully of course we can sign Treacy up, and maybe Harper too, which would give us more room to get a loan player in.

Is Harper actually a loan signing? Havent we taken on his contract making him technically a permanent (albeit on a short term contract) signing?

I am not sure that if it is a season long loan whether the player counts in the 'loan' catagory.

The Star reports it as a temporary contract until the end of the season rather than a loan.

It's still classed as a loan.

I don't like it when clubs have too many players on loan, it's a trade we got used to seeing Wednesday do. It just leaves you back at square one at the end of the season, but if we do bring a couple of these in permanently it's not too bad.

What worries me, is the amount of players that shine on loan, get their contract then stop putting the effort in. It happens far too often, and I hope it doesn't happen here.

Dos Santos from Spurs for me or Danny Rose on loan.

started this thread before signing of harper (which is a great move) good points about number of loans, I agree tracey would be good permanent deal, I feel we definetly need a cb and a cf, but you are right will be difficult to get loanees to sit on the bench. Maybe get webs back?!!! (stands back and awaits barrage!!) no seriously we must strengthen very shortly then I think we have something to look forward to
