This team vs the team which got promoted in '06

We have a better midfield this season imo, but in 06 I felt we had more players who could make an impact from the bench.

A more appropriate question would be how well would this team do in the 06 season?

Bloody hell. I didn't realise that. Having just checked, he only played 12 times for Stoke in the league.

I met two blokes in a Leeds Wetherspoons once (bizarrely) and when they found out I was a Blade they said they were in the same team as Tongey when they were kids. They said he never really believed he could be a footballer and just didn’t have that confidence footballers need, even though they said he was obviously miles better than anyone else they knew.

Who would win in a match between the two teams is a meaningless question. Anybody can beat anybody in a one off match.

The better team however is undoubtedly the 2006 one.

That group of players possessed everything our current team lacks and was much more effective/consistent over a full season.

The league has grown a lot since then, it's a much better standard.
To be honest if we'd put the side we have now in that premier league we'd probably comfortably stay up.

I tend to agree. I was watching Swansea v Leeds the other day and thinking it was a similar standard to the PL last time we were in it.

Wolves and Fulham last year would have been challenging for Europe were they in our Premier League. They were that good.

The PL has improved but when we went up, it was commonplace for most promoted teams to struggle. It was very rare that three stayed up, probably more frequent that all three went down.

Usually one would stay up, two if there were a couple of car crash clubs.

Now, despite the improvement, more teams going up compete. That’s partly because they get so much to spend but they also tend to keep a lot of the players that got them up. So, it seems the bigger improvement is in the championship. It certainly seems that way.

There's nothing subjective about comparing a team with 12 year's difference and Warnock clearly a better manager than Wilder. FACT.

All this talk of the Championship being better than it was 12 years ago is pure rubbish. FACT. There may be more money about but all it shows is hyper inflation in wages, transfer fees etc. Nothing to suggest that the actual players are better. FACT.

Didn't Ifill (our worst midfielder in 2006) score more goals in 2005/06 than the whole SUFC midfield in 2016/17? That 2005/06 had pace, strength and ability. FACT. The current team is slow, strikers are crap, wing backs average and defence leaky. Midfield trio is decent but for all the tippy tappy stuff we don't score enough goals.

This team is heading for another mid table finish. FACT. The 2005/06 got promoted at a canter. FACT.
