What's the point of the transfer window?

For Football League clubs atleast.

When this loan window reopens (why can't it just remain open, does it need cleaning?) next week it just means clubs will sign players on loan and make it a permanent deal in January. Exactly like we did with Brian Howard. We signed Howard October-ish on loan and made it a formality a few months later. I'm sure loads of clubs did this.

And cut every five minutes to some bloke outside a training ground " Who's this driving into the car park, it could be (insert players name) arriving for talks" then the groundman drives past in an old Ford Escort !!!

Gotta say I find it quite funny that they gambled on there being big news at Spurs & Pompey and placed people outside the training grounds and pretty much nothing has happened at either ground!
