Sky is suggesting that Boro has tabled a bid for Rob Hulse of approx £3m.
Does anyone know if we had a sell on clause written into the deal when he was sold to Derby?

With Carney and Hendrie leaving and off the wage bill and Howard at the Mad Stad in talks for a loan move I suspect KB will be looking at more loan signings after the window has shut.

Can't see us buying anyone in the panic window.

'Can't see us buying anyone in the panic window'

Dude, it's not like Blackwell has had only today to make a signing! He has done well depleting the squad and filling it with lefties

just can't see it SUA. £1.75 million was a good price for a big earning player who looked like he might never recover from that bad injury he suffered. He was down the pecking order and hadn't scored for a long time so I just can't see that we would be expecting any money if Hulse does go to Boro.

There is a lot of garbage being quoted on here about jacking it in if no new players are signed before the deadline. You and your suasage/fork analogy are one of those. The reality is that the panic is really for the Prem clubs and not the rest since the loan window opens again soon afterwards.

Prem clubs will be looking to get rid of squad members for a fee on a permanent basis before the window shuts. If that fails then they will look to shift out players on loans either for experience (e.g. Freddie Sears, Jay Simpson) or becuase they are expensive and not regular first team players. That's where most Championship clubs will do most of their business.

I doubt if KB and MMcC are willing to spend in an inflated market without a guaranteed return. There are no guaranteed returns in football so they will be looking to hedge and sign loanees with a view to permanent should the promotion goal be achieved. It's reality and makes perfect sense from a finacial perspective.

The best we can hope for is that Killa is still a Blade at 17:00 today.

That is the point though. Derby got Hulse for a cheaper price because of the injury. Having played regularly since the logic is that he improves to an extent where someone may want to buy a quality striker who is scoring goals again - albeit after recovering from a bad injury. Hulse is a good striker so that should be relatively easy to predict unless he had to retire because of the injury.

Like I said SUA: I just can't see it. For 2 reasons: Firstly I don;t think SUFC would have had the common sense to think that far ahead and secondly (hindsite is a beautiful thing) very few people thought that Hulse would be half the player he was in the premiership.

Yes Hulse is a very good striker. My personal opionio is he's the best I've seen at the Lnae since Deane. But that aside, 1.75 was a good price. I disagree with you that it was reduced. Sure it was slightly less than we payed for him. But remember it was a bad break, he was 28 and he came back and scored none in 26 (or 24 not 100% sure). At that time we had BT, Stead, Sharp, Webber and Henderson. All these factors make me think that we were just happy to take a couple of mill and ship him on.

Selling Hulse, given the way he had played after his injury, was a very defensible decision at the time, as we had an abundance of strikers.

6 months on, when that abundance of strikers had turned into Ward and Henderson, it didn't look like such a good move...

I'd be loathe to fill the squad with loan players. Some of them might pay off, but it's very short-sighted, and a team is only allowed 5 loanees in its matchday squad anyway. We've already got Bunn, Walker and Treacy starting most matches, so we could only have an extra 2 anyway.
