He is tho!? Or do you think otherwise?
Be interested in your version of a "poor poor footballer"
Is it someone who plies his trade in division 10 of the Sunday league or a bloke who's spent the last 12 years getting paid good money playing in Premier, Championship and third tier of the professional game.?

Technically he's not great but he's not poor. Many have forgot what poor actually looks like.

No one who can do as much as Basham can be described as a poor footballer. For example he's a superb tackler - which is a technical attribute by the way.

Got to love bash. Blades legend. Couple of my mates got chatting to him on the pitch after Northampton away and he was really emotional about the promotion. Told them it meant the world to him.

DMcG’s cut back to billy on the volley was great as well. Under that pressure at that time in the game I think a few forwards go for goal or fluff that into the side netting.

Had to peel myself off the roof

Poor poor footballer? FFS...
Just think back a short while when we fielded our midfield dynamic duo of Hammond and Woolford.

They are poor poor players - not fit to lace Bash's boots. Bash is consistently good in his performances and rarely has a bad game. Why people seek to slag him off is a complete mistery to me o_O

Bash is now a squad player and adequate cover, he doesn’t have the quality to enable us to push on, if we have aspirations of top 6 Bash will not be part of the 11.

At this moment in time, when we haven’t really got going on the pitch, Basham would be one of my first names on the sheet, as would Billy Sharp.

The reason being, when things aren’t going your way, when the football isn’t flowing like it was at the start of last season for example, these two players give you what you need in these circumstances - work rate, passion, belief and more than anything else, effort.

In a time when everything is rosy on the pitch and we are pumping teams with our high quality football, then maybe play someone who is better on the ball.

But that isnt happening. In fact despite the win yesterday I wasn’t impressed with the effort levels of a few. Players like Basham and Sharp are a managers dream. They pull everyone through when times are hard. Yes, if we want to be in the premier league these two lads might not be good enough, but we are a mid table championship team and I for one will be happy to just maintain that for a while.

There’s times when he fucking throws himself in front of his man to nick the ball, it’s sheer will power, grit and determination. He also makes a lot of last ditch tackles. More importantly he recycles the ball a lot and can shift the momentum of the game with a lung busting run. He sets the tone for other players.

He’s come on massively under Wilder and really is an accomplished Championship player. More importantly he could, could become a Blades Legend. He just needs that iconic goal/moment against Wednesday / Leeds / Playoff match / Cup game.

Already is for me. He was there the whole time we were shite, and deserves to have been part of what happened when we won League One.

He is playing above his level now really but his drive, determination and passion make him first on the teamsheet and good for him. All footballers should be like him.

And his iconic moment for me was against Swindon (5-5 game) when we were 3 down first half and everyone else had pretty much given up. He was geeing the whole team up, scored that diving header and was the major reason why we almost won. We win that game and the playoffs and he’s a Blades legend for anyone I think.

We still need better to progress from where we are, but he’s a major reason we’re here in the first place.

I used to be think he's playing above his abilities, but he does it week in week out, that makes him an underrated good player and now such an essential part of our team, we completely changed Tuesday when he came on

He's such a terrific bloke I'd feel bad even criticising him justifiably.

The Norwood effect? Playing with certain players can do wonders for your own game. I reckon this is why we're a much better side with Coutts in the team.

Basham won me over in the promotion season. For two seasons before that under Chuff and Madkins, I thought he was a nothing player. He went missing when he played in midfield and he was poor and uncertain defensively. For the first few months under Wilder, I thought he was at best, a useful versatile sub to bring on. Then he improved dramatically to the point where by February of that season, he would have been the first name on the sheet for me with some commanding displays at RCB. And for me he hasn't let his overall standards slip since. The other things that Wilder will put more importance on that supporters don't see is his character, his enthusiasm and obvious love of playing for the club, his desire to win, his leadership, not just on the pitch but in the dressing room and on the training ground. He's the model pro, an absolute dream to manage.

I want to be there on that day where he makes one of those surging runs, but instead of panicking at the edge of the box and tapping it sideways, he Cruyff turns the centre half before smashing it in the corner of the net...... you can do it Bash!

For me, Basham has stepped up a gear this season.

he knows there is extra competition all over and it's had a positive effect on his game - once again, good management by CW and the management team in making the best of what we have.

People saying his work-rate and commitment have blinded us to technical deficiencies? For me, it's the other way around.

His work-rate has caused many to place him in the category of 'limited trier' a la Montgomery, when in fact underneath that he's a good footballer in his own right.

Look at our first goal yesterday, that was 90% Basham, and epitomises many of his qualities. Fleck's long ball to Freeman is intercepted by the Bolton defender, headed down to his team-mate to pick up possession. Bash comes from nowhere to win a ball he has no right to, sprints forward into the box onto Freeman's pass then shows great awareness to cut the ball back to Duffy who scores.

He doesn't have as much quality on the ball or range of passing as our other main midfielders, but as an all-around player he is fantastic to have in the team.

What about that ball to McG against Norwich. Norwood would've been proud of that.

He's not skillful in a flashy way but he seems to get past more people than anyone. It'd be interesting to see statistics on that because I'd put a quid on him having gone through or round more people in the oppositions half than Brooks last season.

He has periods of inconsistency defensively, but even on a bad day he makes up for it with his other attributes.

If Bash could play for 90 minutes/every week like he can in bursts he would be playing for one of Europes top clubs.

He's had stormers at both RCB and in midfield. He's also been shown up a few times.

Like many of our players, he was great before Coutts' injury. He'll look much better now that Norwood's come in and increased our tempo.

A stationary Chris Basham receiving a sideways pass from Lee Evans on the right wing after a series of 15 passes around the defence/midfield, with ten opposition players behind the ball, with no idea what to do with the fucker should now be something of the past.
