...I mean, it's a shit approach even by our standards, and it didn't work but:

"We tried to sell one or two, but..."

bladesmanluke has hit the nail on the head:

Best we can hope for now is an over reliance on loans. Makes a mockery of the “improved budget”.

Good money for Brooks was it? Utterly fucking pointless as usual.

For Brooks see Maguire, Murphy, Walker, Naughton etc etc chuffing etc.

Lots of people said we had to sell just to stay afloat. Seems they were right

I'm sure all the usual suspects / clappers / club apologists will be on later to fudge the subject.

What really are our debts if that is true? Decent attendances, well below average championship wages, not exactly big spenders with transfer fees...

Not sure anybody can seriously defend the window in all honesty. We've had worse in terms of players being sold but this one has been embarrassing in terms of how we have shown how out of touch we are to the real world.
Take an extra like anall

As I said in the shoutbox - this was a brilliant bit of management by the board:

  1. Everyone is totally underwhelmed by the squad we've got
  2. Pretend to nearly sell a player
  3. Make everyone realise how thin the squad would be
  4. Make everyone panic
  5. Don't sell the player (but don't sign anyone either)
  6. Suddenly everyone feels a little more grateful and relieved for the squad we've got.

We just seem to have no idea what the going rate is. We don't seem to know where we stand. If we can't afford to raise our wage bill then fine but start scouting better and in markets that fit our wage bracket. Shrugging and saying "there is nobody out there better than what we have got" doesn't wash with me at all .

I think we have up given on the lower league market as we had some mental idea we would be able to get proven Championship players paying League One wages. I just can't fathom how we ever thought we would have a chance getting proven players whilst paying some of the lowest wages in the league. It's incredible we have past the permanent transfer window and only have Sharp, Clarke and McGoldrick as our only strikers. I'm not sure how anybody can defend that.

A good sale is only a good sale if at least some of the money is used wisely in replacements

I'm not sure how the TV deal works or how much it is worth to us, but I imagine each club receives a payment before the season starts and then a payment when their games are shown live on TV

In addition to that our season ticket sales add up to about £6 million if we assume an average of £300
Adult prices are £427 kop, £551 South Stand and John Street, £487 Westfield Corner, and £608 Family package in the family enclosure, but let's assume an average of £300
Not bad for a fans contribution, and that's without them spending another penny

Plus a £12 million sale (we've not received it all yet I know0
Plus 15 other players have left,

Have we really used the money wisely ? it seems that using it wisely involves anything but player replacement.

This sums it up perfectly. What's the point making record bids if you're not gonna pay wages that match.

It's all well and good stickin the sausage in but you got shoot a load to make a baby.

I truly fucking despair what a chance to. Kick on missed a trick again second rate club always to be waste of time get nowhere ever i think wilder will be off its all going to get very messy its obvious his hands are tied we aint gunna create or score fuck all and we cant defend real struggle to stay up this season

Remember what I was saying when some were suggesting selling Brooks back in January?

Well, look what we've got now.

Look how effectively we've reinvested.

Look how difficult it is for us to reinvest and improve the team with our sacred 'wage structure'.

To fail to bring in any permanent replacement for Brooks, and to fail to spend on any attacking player is absolutely inexcusable.

This club is run by fucking amateurs from top to bottom. Always has been, always will be.

Season over?

Well we can forget about play off push for sure anyone else disagree?.. Just carry on clapping while we get took for a cunt by the club

it’s not a new approach Koz lad .. in fact one might argue it’s a ‘classic’ Blades approach ! :)

Indeed. We operate a take the money and run strategy without taking the money.

We sold Brooks for '£12m.'

We haven't replaced him with any permanent signing. We haven't spent a transfer fee on ANY attacking player.

Our only cash signing is a centre half, and in Wilder's words we have 'hardly touched the Brooks money'.

If you were told that would happen a few weeks ago, you wouldn't have believed it would you?

It's unacceptable.

We could get a couple of good loans in and it would still be far from good enough. Loans are ultimately dead money.

If you get that sort of money for a player, you replace, reinvest and build. Especially when you're left with a strikeforce made up exclusively of 30 somethings. But we've failed miserably.

And why? Fucking wages.

Given the fee we received for Brooks - not to mention the apparently competitive initial budget - we had an opportunity to get with the times and start competing properly but have chosen to retain our strict wage structure to avoid upsetting players who'd be off in a shot for the first half decent offer, and maintain the non existent 'team spirit'. The wage ceiling will inevitably rise anyway - it has to if we want to compete. We could have started that process this summer but instead small time thinking has prevailed, as per usual.
Yet we've still chased players whose demands exceeded our limits. It makes no sense.

It also helps that we're so narrow minded with our scouting. If you're going to limit yourself to the English market, you have to be willing to accept the inflated costs, which we're very reluctant to.

And the best part is that there's absolutely no guarantee we'll have this money available for transfers again. Far from it. And deep down, we all know it.

For our whole season to hinge on the loan window is absolutely shocking, and inexcusable.

A lot of questions need to be asked.

We're in for a nothing season.

CW usually says it as it is if there's trouble at board level. Maybe his new contract has a gagging clause or a "keep us in this league" bonus while McCabe tries to save his empire (just rambling and trying to make sense of it).

As for the two "owners" they will both be reluctant to put money or plough profits (eg Brooks money et al) back in in case they lose their legal claims. I understand BRP has invited McCabe to mediation and he's accepted (can't recall where I read it). Maybe he will offer to back off and sell up to McCabe for a slice of the action should McCabe have a buyer lined up (again guesswork and speculation).

Whatever, the club is in a reight mess regardless of some trying to ignore the obvious. Every time we seem to have a chance to succeed a McCabe past decision seems to snatch it from us. All I can do is exercise my right to free speech and keep supporting the crap we've been served up for the last 32 games.

No difference to us being a League One club to being a Championship club, same excuses, same drivel.
The fans have to enforce change, fans of other clubs would.

Bit like the Coady trick

Whilst we do, I'm struggling to see how either owner has invested 1p over the last couple of years.

We've made 12 millions this summer, or there about. Call it 10 for good measure.
We received the sell-ones last season which would have been around 6-8 million

Where does this money go if not into the owners' pockets and back into the club as 'their investment'?

I may as well own the club if I'm not actually putting any money in.

Unfortunately I don't see anybody buying anyone out anytime soon.

And the legal mess they've gotten themselves into makes it an unattractive investment proposal for somebody external

Basically, this is it and It's not changing any time soon

The club is a perfect example of the city it belongs to. It will never be a leading light amongst its peers because it’s held back by decades of “socialist” shite. We don’t have top stores and restaurants compared to others because no one would spend the money. Didn’t see the point in it.

We don’t have an airport because we didn’t see the point in spending the money.

We don’t have a football team at the top level because we won’t spend the money.

It’s all related. And in Wilder we have “Mr Sheffield” himself. A smashing working class lad who is as honest as the day is long and genuinely wants the best for us all. But he’s blighted by the Sheffield mentality and not wanting to spend money. So it’s only a matter of time before he fails really.

Not sure what you mean Sean. Who else would discuss it?

McCabe and Jim have thrown their hats into the ring in the past, but Wilder has made fairly strong statements about what's happening and given the lack of back up from elsewhere, clubs involved, leaks, the media, we've been linked with hardly anyone, it rings hollow as of now.

Moore clearly not his first choice, nor Stearman it seems but the recruitment of a decent striker was paramount. Two permanents was a bit of a mantra.

It doesn't look like we've fucked it up. It looks like we haven't even bothered.
