Missing out on jack Marriott for £4m will prove to be a massive mistake. His wages would’ve fit in our structure.
Marriott and waghorn yes, but we have joc and fleck who are worth about £10m each instead of saville and cooper. Not all bad is itIgnoring Adam Armstrong for a measly £1.75m is an even bigger mistake and probably the biggest transfer annoyance of mine since Wilder took over.
If we want some more mistakes/misses though, how about these...
Martyn Waghorn - 400k from Rangers, 2017
Jake Cooper - 300k from Reading, 2017
George Saville - 500k from Wolves, 2017
Jack Marriott - 400k from Luton, 2017
£1.6m.
They're 'worth' around £20m in total now. About £5m each.
All players I'm certain we considered too.

It's all hindsight though isn't it. Leonard was rated one of, if not the best midfielder in league 1, he might come good he might not. It's the thing with young lower level players, half Will be good, half won't, you've just got to scout extensively and hope you get more of the 50% that will be good. Coaching etc helps as well. It's possible Sharp, Fleck and O'Connell stopped us from going for Waghorn/Marriott, Saville and Cooper.
The left footed similarities exist between Cooper/Saville and O'Connell/Fleck but they could have played together and Saville would've been a better bet than Leonard or Lundstram, by a long way. I suppose Cooper would've been instead of Stearman.
As you say though, we've done well with JOC and Fleck. If we can make a couple of signings like them every 2 years or so that'd be super.

But of the young lower level players, blackman yes, baldock yes, Leonard don't know, evans and lundstrum, I think they can play but not together. Thomas and heneghan, didn't play but that suggests a no. So 7 all together 2 yes 2 no and 3 maybes? So about 50% ishBut that's scouting.
Last season's signings:
Stearman
L Evans
Lundstram
C. Evans
Leonard
Baldock

Heneghan
Thomas

Donaldson

You're looking a few million there. 3-5, possibly. Hard to tell with undisclosed nonsense. Not exactly a glowing triumph.

Like last time and the time before thatI hope he was just chucking his toys out of the pram (again) and that there is still hope.
He will have failed, badly, in the market if he doesn’t bring in a younger striker.
But that's scouting.

I think he has given up
Perfectly reasonable comments. The man has transformed the club, never mind the team and it does feel bad to question him.I've considered this over the past 18 hours of depression - Wilder is good at deflecting the blame and its easy for him to walk away while the ownership issue continues, I can honestly see why he considered Sunderland he's a very good league one manager (and we know about league one managers as we had a few).
In my opinion he's yet to be proven in the Championship, this isn't based on the first two games, but more so on our general lack of consistency and his tactical sense when we faced some of the tougher teams last season during our bad patch. We have gone down without a fight in quite a lot of games now and his inability to replace Coutts which we have all identified as the turning point of our season.
Also how many seasons now have we been looking for a quality striker? Again we're yet to sign one that excites us, this time last year we were linked with Sinclair and Donaldson therefore that's what Wilder thought we needed. This season we have released Donaldson and replaced with McGoldrick, but surely we're still in need of that striker with electric pace offering something different?
I just don't get him at the moment and I type this with gritted teeth as I love the bloke and what he's done for us!
It really has been poor recruitment since we got promoted
Might be a change of playing style on the books if reports about Juanpi has any legs, who else was on the plane?Problem as I see it, is we seem to be after a particular type of striker, a hard working, strong, physical player.
And the likes of Bradshaw just don’t fit with that .
Not saying I agree with that, but I can see where we are coming from.
We look weak up front when trying to play a particular way, we are just too easy to defend against when we want the ball held up too or driven forwards.
In good possession we are fine, it’s when we are under pressure and looking to break we are nowhere near good enough.
But that's scouting.

So D McG then !!We'll get Donaldson part deux. Fast, but with legs that last 15 games. Under £100K.
It's probably the least of our worries. I'm more worried that we've spent money at the back, kept our team together, and that they've all turned to mush in the summer break.
Look like they've never played football.

If you want to be pedantic there haven’t been since he said it but on deadline day???'No Permanents Signings before Deadline Day'
But Juanpi?

Bids don't necessarily mean buying players you also have loan bidsHow do you go from 4 bids on a Monday to then saying
"We identified a target that would make us better, we were 3rd favourites and missed out on him and we cant see anyone else that will improve us"
Well who the hell were these four players we bid on?
He also states he doesn't want to take a punt on league one / two players - I'm sorry but there's some really good gems within those leagues, some of our best players were signed from that division, some of the best players in the league are from that league. It completely contradicts what he's previously said that "we're not snobs and we dont mind where we sign our players from"
Kayden Jackson gone to Ipshit, FFS why arnt we buying a FU***** striker
What gave it away? Was it the title of the thread, the fact wilder said we were not buying anyone, or just a general gut feeling?
Also, who the fuck is Kayden Jackson? Mick's brother?
If we’d have got there first they wouldn’t have. They didn’t sign him until end of AugustBut they wouldn’t have. Because Derby bid as well, and would’ve just offered more than we would.
