On the record of the calendar year We definitely are not on course for 55 points that is a fact.

It's definitely one or the other. We get completely destoryed on the wings playing 3-5-2, we also don't have the midfield to control a game or the movement required up front.

you, however should be in some or other position to illustrate how much all our team is on (well over £17m obviously because the WAGES gobble it all up) given that Wilder is now saying we can't afford fuck all after he's also said we haven't touched the Brooks money

It really isn't rocket science.

Take a player on £8k per week and add employer's NI @ 13.8% gives an annual cost of £473k.

We have around 21 senior pros some who will be on more and some on less, but the above gives £ 10m p.a.

Don't forget we are still probably shelling out something to Adkins + assistants and will be subsidising wages for Hanson, Holmes, Carruthers etc, so there could be another half million there.

We then have various youngesters, academy staff, admin staff, ground staff and all the match day temporary stewards to pay.

You are not far off £17m before you even start loking at policing costs, heat/light, rates (BL + academy), plus the normal admin costs of any business.

Our income does not cover this level of costs, so we make a loss.

I don't like the fact, but there it is.

Having a rant sadly doesn't change the facts or I'd happily join you.

Also, you'll ably explain why we've agreed to take £4m as a downpayment for Brooks from a club who have just subsequently spent £25m breaking its own transfer fee.

No idea other than it was done deliverately to piss you off.

mate.. most on here (self included) know that .. we're moaning they didn't start in the first place.. 'that' is the seed of the discontent.

All I'm saying is it's too early to go into meltdown. I'm still optimistic for the season. Trust CW. It's not like we've got David Weir at the helm. We're not going backwards we're making progress although there will be stumbles along the way. QPR away bring it on. I'm confident we'll see a better Blades performance tomorrow than we did last season at Loftus Road.

Did someone ask for a perspective thread? August 2018 and rumblings of discontent after a poor start to our second season back in the Championship losing 3.0 at Middlesbrough in our second match. Next game was QPR away. Losing 1.0. Billy equalised just before half-time, won 2.1. Sun was shining. It's always great winning in the Smoke. Beer. Optimism. The future is bright. And I don't think we really looked back after that game. Promotion followed in May. Euphoria. We're on a journey to the Prem.

No one could have predicted how successful our first season in the Prem would be. Not even CW himself. Joy cut short by lockdown, but hammered Spurs, Chelsea, beat Wolves in empty Bramall Lane. Could you imagine the scenes in a packed stadium? Still, all good. Relationship between Prince and Wilder solid, conference in Dubai, long term strategy, consolidate our success, build for the future, create a legacy. Optimism. Great time to be a Blade.

And then unmitigated disaster that no one would have predicted. Where did it all go wrong? CW himself must scratch his head. No one foresaw this capitulation. You cannot say it was any one thing. Wages? How does that explain the previous year's final position of 9th? Absent fans a factor. Lots of things. Perspective back then was optimistic and positive. Perspective now cannot in all seriousness be anything other than gloomy and pessimistic. Someone needs to do a thread on motivation. Because we've lost it. Motivation will be key now and that's why the Prince has to get his next decision right for the future of the football club.

Perspective: a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view

A bit like being able to use stats to make a point, like if you accept that we would have been relegated if Chris had stayed, then it is an inconvenient truth that 5 minutes before the start of next season the sum total of our progress will be that we are 1 league place above where we were when he started.

It'll feel strange going to places like Hull, Peterborough (looks like they'll be promoted), Preston etc next season, places where we celebrated great victories with CW, without him in charge. That's why I say motivation is critical. The journey is over and it's hard to let go. And we have to start again. Assuming away fans will be allowed back of course. It's not just the team, it's the fans who'll need motivating.
