In my opinion. That second half was good, given. Boro did not need to attack us, but that formation in the 2nd half gave us more width, and attacking threat. It accommodated our probably two most creative players in Duff and Woodburn. Whilst also having 3 in midfield which Wilder clearly likes.

It's also glaringly obvious that we need a forward that can finish his tea. Leon did great last year, but it's now evident that we need 1 or 2 more forwards in.

For me, we go to QPR and ditch the 5 at the back as it's clearly not done anything the last two games (I know, we have not played Duffy in either of those).

Team for me on Satdeh.

Henderson
Baldock, O'Connell Steerman Stevens
Bash/Leonard
Fleck Evans/Lundstrum
Woodburn Duffy (on the wings)
Sharp or A.N. Other.

Could say this is a slight "kneejerk" but oh well.

Thoughts and opinions?

PS. We need to improve at Set Peices in both boxes this season.

I wouldn’t mind seeing that, although I’d put JOC in for Stevens, personally.

We had the chances to make that second half interesting at the very least but couldn't hit a friggin cows arse - additions required before the end of the month otherwise it could be a very long season........

Not going to panic after two pretty tough matches to start the season, but there are three things that want fixing quite urgently, and I will be worried if there aren't signs they're being addressed soon:

1. The flat midfield three. I think we all know it's not working now, even in harder games where it's supposed to make us more solid. Duffy has to start or something needs to change that makes us more dynamic.
2. Strikers. We need at least one new one, ideally two. I'd like to see Woodburn plus one up top. At the moment that would likely be Clarke but he has been poor in both opening games.
3. Defending. Personally believe JOC and Egan are both very good Championship defenders. Why are we conceding these soft goals? I'm concerned that something might be missing on the training ground or concentration or something because we have good players looking lost in what should be simple situations.

Neither Lundstam nor Evans should be anywhere near the team. If there's no one else to play instead we should field 10 men.

We pushed Basham into midfield and switched to a back four after about 30 minutes.

Indeed. We didn't concede after the change, and we looked better going forward.

What really changed the game was bringing on Duff and Woodburn and putting them into the wide positions rather than McGoldrick and Lundstrum playing them.

If we had pulled one back Boro would have woke up and scored again.

Hard to tell when boro has the game won after 25.

Duffy and Woodburn looked decent in that second half and at least have us a spark of something.

Hendo
Leonard Egan. O Connell
Baldock . Evans fleck . Bryan
Duffy . Woodburn
Sharp

Maybe. Stearman for Leonard
Should have started with something like this saturday for me billys movement would open things up for Duffy and Woodburn .

Back four now for me, we need to stop conceding and Egan looks all at sea in a back three.

With 14 players we have a chance

The defining difference was how well organised their Defence and Midfield was compared to ours.

They were well drilled and filled the spaces. We had players treading on each other’s toes on top of each other, thus leaving vast spaces unoccupied. The outcome was inevitable.

Work to be done.

We have simply got change it up a little. Run the channels more, try and get behind the defence more, run at defenders with the ball more, get midfielders to support the front men more.

This is what I’d like to see Saturday...

Hendo

Baldock JOC Stearman Bryan

Leonard

Woodburn Fleck Duffy

McGoldrick Sharp

What Wilder will pick..

Hendo

JOC Egan Basham
Baldock Stevens

Lundstram Fleck Evans

McGoldrick Clarke

I’m clinging on to the fact that Coutts is our saviour and when he’s back we’ll storm up the league o_O

Feel a bit sorry for Lundstram. Came in for coots and and improved with every game. Then Wilder bought in Evans and put him straight in the team at Lunnys expense. Would Lundstram have carried on improving ? Who knows but Evans definitely hasn,t, and for me he is a youger Dean Hammond and should be got rid of.

remember that bloke Jake Wright. the old guy who used to organise everything. pointing and shouting???

The problem is context though. Boro will have, quite naturally shifted down several gears in that second half.

I fear this is more a personnel problem. Both within the starting 11 and squad as a whole. We can tweak the formation as much as we like, but we need players quick over 10 yards, and quicker speed of thought, clinical when presented half chances.

We’re not really creating out of nothing, and we’re absolutely wank at set pieces. Basically that means we need to create 1-on-1s and open goals and we’re still missing them!!!

I reckon he'll go with Fleck and Leonard in midfield with Woodburn and Duffy behind Clarke. So, not too attacking, but less defensive.

Nah , he's crap .

I know that for a fact because His Pinchiness told me so . I should also point out that your comment puts you in grave danger of being described as a ' Shakey Jakey ' and we all know how upsetting that can be .

Personally , I was traumatised and fear that I may never recover ......
:p:p:p
