Four bids

No it's just extremely frustrating. I actually think the club are showing a level of ambition they haven't for years with the players they are looking at but it looks like we may need a re-think regarding our transfer policy. I hope we end up with Freeman, Gallagher and Hogan or whatever and it all works out but I fear we will be pipped to the post again .

It's a tough one. Nobody wants to end up like Wednesday but if we are serious about improving I'm struggling to see a way to do it without raising the wage bill.

I really don’t buy all this the clubs showing ambition , we’ve spent 3/4 million and received 12 ish , and that’s without including the original transfer budget.

We're in no man's land really but in truth it's where we were likely to be. First half of last season raised expectations and when myself and a few others wanted those tempering a little, a few saw this as negativity.

We simply can't afford to compete for the players sought by the club's with serious money at this level.

What we have will keep us in the division but is some way off promotion contending.

As it stands we have to accept we can't afford a promotion team, and will likely lose our better players as a result.

Frustrating as hell but the harsh reality of being a Sheffield United fan most of the time.

The truth is we need new ownership to progress but many seem very scared of this.

Really disagree.
Breaking a wage structure is so tempting but potentially it’s a road to ruin.
It means our signings may not be committed as they are only coming for the money.
It also can cause squad unrest because other players then want a pay rise.

Don’t want our club to gamble with our future.
They might ask the fans to help out and put the prices up to £35 to £40 a match.
So what are we doing then? Accepting we’re just a mid table team?

We could have matched Ipswich's value and then sat down with Waghorn and offered him £10k a week - for arguments sake let's say that's 2k more than what he's on before. That's Wilder offering enough to buy the player and enough to pay his wage. Player seems happy and the move is on.

Then Boro, ask the agent and then offer him £20k - we don't up our offer - he goes to Boro.

In no way has Wilder wasted his time, or fooled himself, and in no way have SUFC not been in the running. Boro came in with a last minute wage bump we didn't want to pay.

And then Derby came along and we're in bronze medal position.

I don’t think anyone is saying that. We have a rough idea how much is in the biscuit tin. The approach we are taking is not working. The only thing that holds me hope in the perm market is that teams buying now need to ditch players sooner or later but that’s cast offs. I would be amazed if it wasn’t just a couple of loans now, where we can get better quality using some of the transfer money. Not ideal but that feels like the market we should be in
I think plenty are saying that.

I think we need to shift our focus onto league 1&2 players since we have an obvious issue with paying mid/top end championship wages. I feel we are just wasting our time with these bids.

Or abroad, why are we so behind with tapping into the resource most successful clubs have done.

The board and Wilder are dinasours (can we have a dinosaur emoji cause we feckin need it).

Got to agree with WisewBlade89 re what we've earned and spent. The squad is weaker (or the same at best) with the business we e done but the wallet is fatter.

We are not in the ball park with the players we are trying for, the games moved on and we haven't we are just trying to tread water while the 50/50 debacle McCabe has created is sorted

Why do you that anyone's scared of "new ownership".
Pretty much everyone was for HRH coming on board.
We're actually scared that HRH takes over but has no more money than Kevin McCabe has.
If a real-life true billionaire turned up, the fan base (and Kevin) would be over the moon.

You've conveniently forgotten the running expenses. SUFC runs at a loss every season; last season will show roughly breakeven thanks to the Maguire & Walker sell-ons (£7.5m income), this season will be breakeven thanks to Brooks.

A podium finish isn’t too bad...
Except in a winner-takes-all competition.

Really?

That's not the message quite a few have portrayed over recent times. McCabe bringing in investment alongside himself...yes, but some get very twitchy about the prospect of completely new foreign ownership.

When we were in league 1 we couldn't afford the best of league 1. When we came up, we couldn't afford the best of league 1. Now we can afford the best of league 1, and we'll be able to afford their wages, we're intent on trying to sign players who we can't afford, can't afford their wages and who probably won't come to us.

Gwion Edwards is the perfect example of a snip.

I admire CW and his ambition..... however we are not capable of competing with the heavy weights in our division. Abroad is a great option as well - maybe invest some of the Brooks funds into a scout abraod?

Only because he hasn't splashed the cash as much as everyone hoped - remember the constant carping about "game-changing" and "Liverpool-style Investment"

Be great if we can break our precious wage structure to sign any of them.

I assume not.

Give it a rest you tart!!

Let’s break the wage structure this week...and then again in January..and the again next summer.
In fact, just pay whatever every player we go after whatever they want.
In no other business in the world would people of a supposed sound mind consider that a good idea!!
Let’s say I take home 5k a month..after all my bills are paid I have 1k left..I decide I fancy a new car so buy a Mondeo costing £200 a month...then after 6 months chop it I. Cos i fancy a beemer...cost has doubled. 6 month later I get bored of that and fancy a Porsche £800...then 6 month later a bentley£1600 a month...you starting to get the picture?
Before long I’m paying out more than comes in but carry on paying out more!!

Unless you are stumping up the losses you have no right to suggest never mind demand United should break the structure they have in place to still lose money!!

You know the wage structure is implemented by the management not the owners don’t you you bell?

Chris and Alan decided to implement as to not have disparity in wages.

Tart is a great word

Here he goes...talking like he knows what he’s on about!!
Really...I hadn’t realised that! Christ on a fucking bike!!
So are you blaming Wilder for setting a relatively even pay structure (which is bollocks by the way) or the owners for not making the budget big enough to support paying everyone what they demand??

Please tell me how United should get these players in oh wise one rather than the childish statement suggesting they should just break the wage structure!!
This should be a laugh.

You shout a lot, I’d advise yoga.

I know full well what I’m talking about chief, sounds like you’re getting confused though.

It’s not that we can’t afford Hogans wages for example - he’s just on x amount more than our top earner this meaning we’d have disparity again by paying him that much. It might upset that amazing team spirit we’ve got right now.

Top championship strikers earn more than what we’re willing to pay them. So we will have to break our precious wage structure to sign them - if we aren’t willing to do that why not set our aims a bit lower like we were before? Why chase unattainable targets and waste time?
It’s not that we can’t afford it we have a large percentage of the 12mil we received for Brooks to reinvest.

Surely you’re not too dense to understand that. Then again...
