How did John Egan play? I watched the game on Sky but he didn't get a mention the whole 90 mins apart from at the very beginning when he was announced as our record buy. From what I could make out he was solid enough but JOC was our best defender with interceptions and running with the ball. Evans was shocking and there was no creativity in midfield. That said it was a superb build up and goal. Midfield needs work but we're not far off. Thought McGoldrick did well and Leon was quiet but little service. Definitely no to Evans and Lundstram starting together. Hopefully Bryant can do a job in midfield alongside Fleck and either Lundstram/Evans until Coutts is back.

Joe Egan is either the bloke in Steelers Wheel or an Irish bare knuckle fighter. To be honest either one of these fuckers would have done better in defence than our lot today. At times today it was like watching ten years olds play where they all run aimlessly towards the ball like a swarm of bees.

Decent.
Like sheffielder says he's not great with the ball but being the centre of the 3 he doesn't need to be. He seems to read the game well, has ok pace for a defender and looks to.really like a tackle.
Their prick up top didn't do much before the goal so it's hard to say what hes lile in the air.
On a side note, no better than Jack at offensive corners with the looks of things.

We paid at least £1m too much.

But he's quite solid. He did OK.

My first impressions are that he’s solid defensively but his distribution is poorer than Steermans. I thought he had been brought in to replace Bash (nowt against Bash) but if it’s Steersman I’m inclined to think the money could have been better spent elsewhere. We have spent 4m and it has bolstered the defence but not improved it. Same old problems yesterday. Just my opinion though it’s early days yet and I’d be happy to be proved wrong

I was disappointed in him to be honest if the ‘record transfer’ really means we spent a fair amount up front.

His passing was pretty abject and he was badly beaten in the build up for their winner when he could / should have done better.

Not an impressive debut but obviously still early doors.

Egan looked steady but not a big upgrade on Steaman

JOC was our worst defender of the back three on the day.

Neither of the forwards threatened at all.

Hopefully, it was just first game nerves and, of course, he needs a proper amount of time and patience to bed in and feel at home, but I felt that yesterday's performance was on the slow side (in common with most other players), and clumsy at times. As others have said, the distribution wasn't great either, but we probably knew that beforehand.

I've heard the gaffer mention more than once in interviews, that, in relation to the fee, we've got 'value' when you look at the price of other centre-halves who have moved in the Championship. In that context, Wilder may or may not be talking about the £7m that Flint went for. If he is, I would beg to differ. Flint is a player who affects games (as we'll probably find out again on Tuesday, unfortunately) and over the season will, in all likelihood, prove to a pivotal signing and win lots of vital points in a Tony Pulis side.

We've been linked with Jake Cooper today.

If we could get him for £4m or similar we should've surely gone for him instead of Egan.

But I think Wilder was just a bit hung up on Egan. Long term target and he had to scratch that itch, as with Leonard and Holmes.

didn’t think he was an upgrade on jake never mind steersman .. has a propensity to launch it that is very worrying .. i don’t think brighton will still be interested in joc if they saw that :)
