If Kean Bryan signs then that's every position covered apart from one more striker and a left wing back.

There's been little or no recent discussion about the LWB position but it's pretty clear Lafferty is not up to it and Wilder has publicly stated that Norrington-Davies is going to go out on loan.

At a push, Freeman or Baldock (and maybe Leonard) could possibly cover there if needed but it leaves us a bit short if Stevens picks up an injury.

Anyone heard anything about us looking at bringing someone in? A loan would probably be preferable.

I suspect Kean Bryan will be able to do job there, if not he may free O'Connell to go wide.

Not ideal obviously, but if funds are limited (which they obviously are) then I'd use the remainder to invest in a quality striker as a priority.

We're a bit short even if Stevens is fit.

Cos he's shite.

I love you mate, but this seems a bit hypocritical.

You'll (rightly) defend Sharp to the end, but at the same time call another one of our players shite?

You said you don't like a majority of our fans, and justified it with good reason: another reason to dislike our fans is our propensity to turn on our own players- something you're guilty of.

According to Wit we haven’t even touched the Brooks money yet so don’t be so sure

I don't really understand your point, wilder has kept Lafferty, so he therefore must see him as the back up LWB, hence I very much doubt it is even in his thinking
Why did he not give him a single run in the league last year in that position then when Stevens form was ‘indifferent’ to put it nicely

Besides the point, I'm a huge Stevens fan but I agree he lost his attacking nerve, all I'm saying is if wilder didn't trust Lafferty, he would have been listed and we would have already brought someone else in

If Billy hadn't hit as many goals in his career as he has then he'd be justifiably labelled as such. Difference is, even if he can't hit a barn door this season he's done enough to warrant at least a measure of respect.

Not the case with Stevens. He's in the team because Lafferty is worse, and we'll be torn to shreds down the left hand side if we don't sign somebody decent. He just doesn't have the requisite quality.

But I love you too :)

I bet Bryan can play LWB.

He's played CB. He's played in midfield. That suggests he's reasonable on the ball. He looks a good size. If he's fairly athletic he should have no problem at LWB. He's young enough to be moulded anyway.

I understand that Billy's had a greater impact at the club, and commands more respect. I also agree that Stevens' place in the team is probably due to a lack of competition rather than his ability.

I still don't think we should write him off, and I really don't think he deserves to be called shite though.

I've seen some comments suggesting he probably can't. It's a strange role wing back. Needs pace, great stamina, good defensive aspects and excellent attacking credentials.

Which comments?

There were a few in relation to him possibly replacing Jack. Can't remember where they were but some from Oldham fans.

I was reffering to the content of the comments, rather tham the source.

Did someone say he can't play LWB for a particular reason? (Ie: lacks pace, crossing ability, stamina etc.)

The one I remember basically said CB or LCB, possibly DM, but definitely not LWB.

Would really love Norrington-Davies to be given some playing time this season, if he has the talent mooted by some.

If he's supposed to be going out on loan then we can call off the loan. We did it once before I think, some young player.. can't remember his name..

He'd probably benefit more from a loan to get some games under his belt. He'll not get that here unless Stevens gets injured. Loan him out until Christmas and if he's doing well, give him a chance the second half of the season.

Good point. I would prefer a half-and half loan ;) with a chance here if he progresses to the right level

The Rangers lot reckon he failed a medical?

..according to this:

https://talksport.com/football/4040...bryan-thanks-to-ibrox-manager-steven-gerrard/

he was to play 'Left Sided Midfield' for Gerrard...so who knows Wilder's plans for the lad (if he signs)

I’d much rather a good DM or even out and out Wide midfielder play left wing back than an out and out defender anyway.

I just think if you set yourself up to be an attack minded team and a team that has a go, then I’d rather someone who is more adept with the ball than a good defender.

Playing 3-5-2 is exciting. Playing 5-3-2 isn’t if your wide men don’t have the tools to attack properly and give good service. For all his huff and puff, how many goals did Baldock score or assist? And I’d be one of the first to say he had a hood first season.

Someone who is a midfielder might not be as sound defensively but that is the whole idea of having the insurance of the extra centre back.

Wayne Quinn did a good job there under Spackman. A young Woodhouse also. And look at Vas. Defender by name he may have been, but by how much? Whose highlight of Borbokis was a great tackle or bit of marking? It was all mazy runs, free kicks and the goal on the first day of the season. Bruce totally ruined him adopting a back four, trying to get players to fit a system rather than the other way.

This team is moving on apace. Jake Wright, Danny Lafferty, Caolan Lavery and Ricky Holmes all need to go before the window shuts, maybe some in the loan window.

Stevens may have the ‘yellow jersey’ but I wouldn’t be surprised if by Christmas he doesn’t. Who knows, maybe RND will be this year’s David Brooks?
