Seems that Derby will sign Marriot and try for Waghorn using money from selling their existing strike force, such as Nugent.

How ironic would it be if Derby get Marriot and Waghorn and we sign either Nugent or Jerome! I'd rather Marriot or Waghorn but I can see Jerome or Nugent doing a decent job for us, if we signed one of them.

We do seem to like a geriatric striker or two at the moment so sounds plausible to me.

So they've rejected 5.5m (allegedly) from us, but are willing to accept 4m with a pie in the sky bonus on top?

Yes. Derby are gambling big style on promotion, same with Forest. Unfortunately for both of them, they're not going to be anywhere near Stoke or West Brom so they've effectively got 1 spot to play for. Ergo... One (or more likely both) are fucked. Derby are already on the brink of FFP (and need to get shut of Vydra to bring Waghorn in). Can't see Forest being too far behind. Can see Middlesbrough being fairly close too.

The 4m Purchase of Marriot has Derby over the FFP 3 year limit, so they really are fucked if they don't get rid of Vydra.

Middlesbrough have another couple of years of Parachute payments yet. But Derby and Forest have bet the farm on this you’re right about that.

Bent isn`t on £ 60 k a week. My partner works for Derby County and the top earner Is Chris Martin . Not going to say how much he is on but a lot less than that.

Sounds a bit odd.
3pm today Derby hadn't made an approach.
5pm it's done... as long as they sell a player to Leeds and it all goes smooth.
Hmmmm ok

Don’t want to start a new thread about ffp, but if it’s true Derby have offered £4m, rising to £8m if they get promoted , is this just another way to avoid ffp. United could offer £4m and another £5m if we got promoted. We can all play that game. No extra for the selling club, if the buying club don’t go up. But the extra income we get,£9m total is peanuts out of the premier money.
Just using United as an example, but is this feasible for other clubs, or am I talking bollox. Are clubs exempt when getting promoted.

If clubs can offer extra £££ for getting to the premier league in deals why don’t we?

It’s money we’ll probably never have to pay and if the players are any good we’ll sell em in the window anyway.

you've answered your own question. Derby probably seen by some as a better bet to get that return? Big unknown with Lampard though, could all go Weir shaped.

So how much was Bent on then? I know for a fact he got 100k at his previous club, which was absurd. As I say, I’m not sure at Derby but I got told he was on £60k. I’m only giving the info I’ve been told to those interested on here.

I haven`t been told the exact amount as Mrs steel would like to keep her job. Based on what she earns , and hints she has dropped about how long it would take him to pay our mortgage off i would say about £ 35 k a week.

Fair enough, it’s still outrageous given his playing credentials in recent seasons.

Boro probably OK as they have parachute payments - First Class Concord would be more appropriate, when you consider most teams use these "parachute payments" to bank roll their way back up again.

Derby and Forest though, as you say, are gambling and if they don't make it they'll end up like our nearest and dearest - unable to sign a player and left with an overpaid and underachieving squad - my heart bleeds for them!

Pardon me for being an aged fart, but it’s all totally absurd!

Millions and millions for players who are at best “average” just because they had a good season here or there in their otherwise unremarkable careers? It reeks of desperation and greed on behalf of agents, players and clubs. Clubs are trying to buy instant success and they’ve lost all sense of common sense, decency and decorum in pursuit of this Holy Grail.

Do we want to play this game?

To some extent we have to, to compete.

But as always, there is a choice between “following the herd” and carving out our own way.

I agree and I’m exactly the same. I want us to spend some money and you simply have to if you want to improve as a team but at the same time I don’t want us to do what those daft cunts across the road have done trying for a quick promotion, especially after all the piss taking I’ve given them for doing just that and failing.

It would be rather hypocritical of me now to want us to do what they’ve done. I know not every club spends money willy nilly but most clubs do in the higher echelons and it just doesn’t feel right. It’s certainly a tough job for everyone involved with the club.

Don’t want either Jerome or Nugent, both old, declining and don’t score enough goals - definitely don’t want either of them if by doing so it assists Derby in signing one of our targets in Waghorn.
