Switch interest to Lucas Joao now.
Wages are said to be nowhere near the £35,000 a week as first thought

Let them have him.

Go in and spend £2 on Adam Armstrong and £3 million on Gallagher.

That would give us 5 strikers with an almost perfect balance between them.

We'd be able to play them two upfront, big man little man type partnership but without the long ball. Gallagher coming slightly deeper and looking for space, Armstrong off the shoulder running in behind and making space for the likes of Duffy/Fleck to exploit. If either or both score goals, we could be looking at the strike force to get us out of this league, or sell them both for a combined fee of around £25 million this time next year.

These signings would excite me much more than a 29 year old Waghorn.

We’ll have Maddison at Posh too, £300,000 should do it :D

Sky Ports reporting that Derby have agreed a fee for Waghorn of £4m rising to £8m if they get promoted.

If that’s the deal, I’m surprised we’re not matching it. Hideous though the idea of £8m is, half of that is dependent on promotion and will look like no cost at all if promoted.

Derby's offer is thought to be dependant on the sale of Vydra to Leeds so if that sale doesn't go through then the Waghorn purchase won't due to Derby having FFP worries.

I wonder how the wage structure at Leeds compares to Derby?

This saga isn't over yet and there could still be a twist in the tail.
4mill then .. they’re going nowhere.. let’s move on

I am a Lucas Joao fan. I have been before he played at t'lane. Raw but there's enough to show he's capable on his day. Play to his strengths and mould him to our way, he's worth a go. I reckon the fee may be ok, but the wages?????? Willing to be shot down on this but it's a gut feeling his power, pace and unpredictability would be very interesting in our team. Maybe 8/10 shots into row Z, but the two into the net could be worth it.

Cold have bought Rhodes from the pigs for that kind of money, now that would have been a fairy tail if came to us then banged them in for fun....

and if he'd carried with his shit form it wouldn't have been a fairy tale, more a nightmare and the pigs having the biggest laugh at us since our days stuck in league 1

Lucas Joao - pay a larger fee to offset the excess wages for the last year of his contract.

Sam Gallagher - pay a decent loan fee to cover the excess wages, try to agree a fee to make it permanent next summer.

Adam Armstrong - £2.5m would be a no brainer of an investment, he has tonnes of potential. Would sign him regardless.

Luke Freeman - not a striker but he's one we could spend a good fee on to replace Brooks, we need someone to properly compete with Duffy. Then we could bring in strikers for smaller fees or on loan.

Sam Baldock and Danny Ward are also worth thinking about. Worth keeping an eye on Jordan Hugill's situation too.

What I think Wilder's going to do with the striker situation is go with 4 (Clarke, Sharp, McGoldrick and one other) and then use the start of the season to decide whether further movement is necessary, in which case we can get another on loan.

Depends how much more than us Derby are offering the player in signing on fees and wages.

If we can't match that then it's time to move on as Waghorn is more interested in money than playing.

Thoughts Ipswich said the only offer was from us, could the other 'stories from sources' be his crafty agent talking up the interest and his % of the sale?

Pure conjecture Topplayersleave and I’m pretty sure crab was saying he wouldn’t have him on those wages, not that he isn’t on those wages.

Got the 35k a week off BM. Poster called Twirlo.
Again, I’m not saying he isn’t on those wages, I just wondered where they’d come from and as it turns out it’s come from a poster on another forum. That’s fine, no one has said otherwise and that was my point to the poster further up.

I get you, wasnt trying to cause friction buddy, just stating where I'd heard it from. I mean, let's be honest. The comedy club most probably have put several players on stupidly high wages

See the other Waghorn thread please. Chris Martin is top earner on around £35 k. No one will have match or surpass that at Derby till he leaves or his contract expires. Hence why he had to go out on loan to Fulham who can actually play the ball into him rather than him having to chase the fucking thing like most footballers do

I'm not overly comfortable that a club like ours is willing to be throwing so much money on a striker of the calibre of Waghorn. Leon got 19 goals and cost us pretty much fuck all in comparison.

There are surely other options in League one that aren't being touted at such an inflated price.

Uddersfield couldn't hang on to him beacuase of his wage demands. He signed a 3 year deal at Burnley in 2017 and will be on £25-£40k a week.

I'd imagine that would be enough to put up with keeping those Lancashire benches warm.

So are some of Wednesday's strikers and the club's not even in the PL. By the way, Rhodes is injured again.

Ofcourse that’s a possibility. However, if you give Wilder £5m, id like to think he’d invest it wisely. Furthermore, you could sign 3/4 promising young talents. Where only 1 would need to come good for us to make profit. Seems to make slightly more sense to me.

You don't get much for £5 mil these days up front. The Goal Machine went to Cardiff for six.

No way Ipswich will do a deal with 4 million down with another 4 million if promoted.I'm sure we could do a deal like that as 4 million is peanuts in premiership terms, that would be a crazy deal for Ipswich.

So it seems from reports that the only deals on the table for Ipswich to consider are £4m up front with another £4m if Derby are promoted, or a definate £5m from Utd with a very decent payment structure in place (as stated by CW).

One is less money up front and the possible prospect of more jam tomorrow....the other has a definate £1m extra now. Bearing in mind I think this season is shit or bust for Derby due to FFP rules I would guess, then that is the conundrum for the tractor boys to consider.

If I was in their shoes....is be inclined to go for the money now offer. So unless Derby change their offer, I think CW is right to call people's bluff on this and stick with his original.offer and leave it on the table. I still think there is a very real chance that it might be the one accepted nearer the window end after all.

Why not offer £4.1 down and £3.9 million on promotion? If we were to go up then it’s chicken feed money in the scheme of things if the team (us) are successful it’s all good.
