It could hardly have gone worse for him last year.

Hope with a preseason he can make an impact and show why he was brought here. Brooks going deffo increases his value to the squad.

He looked a lot less erratic when he came on last night than he did last season. Still think we can improve massively on him though. More than happy to be proved wrong.

Hmmm....this thread is a surprise.

Here’s my take.
Holmes came on, ran around a bit, and had the ball a bit.

Crucially, and I reckon this is the bit that will see him lucky to get in the pitch,
1. His running off the ball was generally pointless. He was always 5 yards behind or away from where he should have been. That may be down to lack of awareness, but it’s also down to him actually being quite slow. His running style gives the impression he’s travelling faster than he is.
2. He made one or two nice runs with the ball, got in some good areas but the final ball or decision was poor. One good cross.

I’m afraid that to me, he looks a player who’s way out of his depth. I don’t see him offering enough to play.

Depends what we need in a game pal, he was the only muscle we had in the middle of the park tonight
Reckon ? I saw one tackle in the whole game from him ,saw a lot of hiding and very poor positioning to accompany his breaking up of play ,unfortunately ours.

100% agree, a cocker spaniel would do the same & cost us less.

I honestly thought he was awful when he came on - ran about like a headless chicken, gave the ball away numerous times. Yes he might have worked hard but I really don't think he's a championship player at all.

Didn’t think he was awful, but he does seem to be a little lightweight....he tries a bit too hard as though he’s an excited little boy ;):D
Seemed to spend his energy clapping his colleagues

I don’t think Holmes will get much of a sniff this season and may even leave before the window ends if we bring in a Brooks-type replacement.

More worried that we’ll see Lundstram and Leonard more who I don’t think are quite at the right level either. Leonard can maybe do a job at CB but I wouldn’t be upset if we moved either of them on.

Both Holmes & Duffy can only last 30 minutes of each game stamina wise. So this is the reason Chris W can only play them for 30 mins. If they could cope with longer they would have cost money. There is always a reason free gifts are free gifts !
Don’t think you can say anything of the sort about Holmes only lasting thirty minutes. Like to know how you came to that statement as I have a mate who supports Charlton and he says Holmes will run non stop for 90 minutes plus at both end of the pitch he also says that he will do a great job for us especially his dead ball kicking and running at defences

Like we all have been saying, depends where you sit. Also, for the record, I thought Evans did ok last night, others on here disagree.

I see Holmes is this seasons designated 'let's have a pop at him' player.

The Mob got their nomination in early this time. Can't help but admire their proactivity.

They were quite happy having a dig at Sharp(e) but some foul mouthed oik keeps coming on here and defending him, so they had to look for easier prey.

After a brief daliance with Lundstram last season, they've settled on Holmes as an easy target. His lack of height is a bonus, so expect some 'midget', 'dwarf' and 'inch-high' insults too.

Is Holmes going to play 40 games and be one of the 1st names on the team sheet and is he good enough and has sufficient proven quality to get us into the top 6 of the division?

For me it's a no.Nothing personal with ANY player at the club - it's all about finishing top 6.

CW has said CONSISTENTLY that players we bring in need that extra quality to go straight in the team ie: Egan.

Is Holmes, already in the club, capable of starting games on a regular basis?

No place for sentiment.

UTB

I wouldn't write Lunny off just yet, we may see a completely different player when Coutts is fit if they play together....it could be Evans who struggles for game time..

Same with Scougall, who I defended to the hilt.
He was also a 'dwaaaaf' to use the traditional thick bastard Kop vernacular.

When Coutts comes back he will have to be eased in, say for 30 mins. Then sub him for Holmes for 30 mins then Holmes for Duffy for the last 30 mins as our "impact sub". Lundstram can stay on the bench as a "squad" player.

Problem solved!

You mean like Fleck

I have watched CW buy players for next to nothing. Most of the time these purchases are followed by fans of their former clubs explaining how shite they are. A few months with CW and AK and offers are coming in for large amounts for these players. JOC, Moore etc. Fleck is the next one, trust me, might be hard to turn down. CW has chased Holmes for a while, there must be a reason. I suspect CW knows there is a good player in there. CW has said he wants a 'special' player who can change games. The problem is, we can't afford one. Personally, I really like Holmes. He needs to get up to Championship speed of thought. I believe he will get there and when he does will be an asset to the Blades. Given CW's record, I have learned to trust him.

Hussey, Hanson, Carruthers, Thomas, Heneghan, Lavery, Lafferty & Wilson. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Yin & yang, innit. For all we know, we might have already seen all that Holmes has to offer at this level. If I was still getting up to speed in my job after nearly 7 months, I’d be clearing out my locker & handing my name badge back to my supervisor.

Linked up well with Sharp, who also did well when he came.
Was it in a sock??
I never even realised he was aroused!!, trust me to be concentrating on the bloody game, rather than Billys crotch!!

Hussey, Wilson and Carruthers I'll give you.

Lafferty played a big part in our promotion and stood in ably last year when asked to do so. You are beyond harsh on this one.

Hanson played a (small) part in our promtion and offered something different. He was never going to feature in this division and has been moved on after doing the job he was bought for. How did CW go wrong in this?

Thomas and Heneghan look like they might not make it, but both are out on loan with a another chance. For low wages which are all we can afford, they are a punt and are not yet bad deals.

Lavery is my only disappointment here. I thought his pace and attacking drive would work better for us and I'm disappointed to accept it hasn't worked. His bad injury didn't help but I'm happy for the jury to be out while he is on loan.

CW/AK's dealings with a tiny budget have been very good. Even better than that he got more out of Coutts, Freeman, Bash and Billy than most of us expected.

On balance I'm not sure whether you are slightly trolling or it's the time of the month.

Do you ever enjoy a match at the Lane?

Probably a subtle troll, I’m a shit polemicist. ;)

Rarely. I find little joy in life generally. :D
