How would it achieve that? We know bids that don’t come off produce frustration, disappointment and ultimately bitterness and derision.

Why would the club knowingly bring that upon themselves by making offers they don’t really mean? Wilder was involved in the Coady offer. Was he part of the not-so-cunning plan?

There are few dafter suggestions on here than the ‘make hopeless offers to please the fans’ bollocks. It ain’t true and it makes no sense even on its own hypothesis.

It did achieve it until the truth came out. Everybody got excited that we were in for a player like lita, and if we were in for a player like him we must have good money to spend. I don't know about the Coady situation but the Lita one was there for all to see.
